Along with Carey Mercer, and admittedly with a huge amount of bias (being Canadian, for one), I would confidently contend that Spencer Krug, Dan Bejar and, as mentioned, Mercer are three of the, if not THE three most exciting musicians of the past decade/current musical landscape. Love them, love them, love them.
i can see that. her drumming had a kind of more "musical" quality on earlier records like The Golden River (my favorite). she used a found object as part of her kit, and it went "ding!" it was absent on Tears of the Valedictorian and most likely this new one. still, i like the simplicity since she has good rhythm and it's a nice contrast to Carey's vocals.
I'm not very big on the Art/Prog stuff that comes out of Canada -- except for Sunset Rubdown, but even they're meh sometimes -- but this was ok. I didn't really pay attention to the drums because everything else was so booming. Loved the vocal delivery. Thanks Anthony.
You're a musician, and you shouldn't be bending to the whims of critics. If you ask me advice on your music, all I'm going to do is tell you how to make music I like. Part of the excitement in being a musicians is making music you like. if that's what you're doing, then be merry. :-)
Incredible song. Incredible feeling. I disagree about the end... it feels pretty climatic to me!
What a monster of a track; whenever I hear it I just want to strip off, get high and have sex with other men.

This is my favorite album of the year so far. die-hard Carey Mercer fan though... I think frog eyes drums are more divisive than Carey's frog throat.

i think the unclimactic ending is because it's an album opener. Maybe it's to compliment the second track on the album.
raptorsfanatic 2 years ago
It's probable, but I didn't really hold too much of an issue w/it. It was really the drumming that I wish was a little more involved, that's all.

Funny you mention Paul Ochs, just started getting into him haha. Are you familiar with Nick Drake?
STm0vies 2 years ago
Yes, I do know him, actually. Pink Moon never really thrilled me, though. His demeanor is a little too "sleepy" for me, maybe?
theneedledrop 2 years ago
I respect that, he's definitely really mellow. Although he is a personal favorite, we can still be friends =)

If we make music that we made that we want your opinion on, but we don't want a whole video will we still need to donate?
