Ok i really need help i got a dog in june and im getting a hamster for christmas will i have time for them both?? oh i have two guinea pigs and two dogs btw the hamster will be in my room im getting a robo dwarf hamster but how often do they poo and how often to i need to feed them and clean out their cage?? please answer anyone who has a hamster please answer :)

@Guineapigs247 You should clean it's cage at least once or twice a week, and check everyday for it's food and water, cause hamsters like tipping the food bowls over, well at least my hamster does xD

i've just had two of these, and they won't come near me. my sister's hamster looks exactly like yours, the other one is shy with white fur and a grey stripe down her back, she squeeks loudly whenever i pick her up, shes very quick and jumpy, what do i do? i want her to sit in my hand like yours does :(

@zillizzy I had the meanest hamster in the world from Petsmart and what I did is just got her in the little ball they have em run in. Put on some cotton gloves so her bites and scratches didn't hurt. Just held her pretty often and petted her. And after about 1 week and handling her for about... 1-3 hours a day. She was the biggest sweetie in the world. Give it a shot.

@zillizzy It's most likely they do not mis handle their hamsters rather, they do not 'handle' them at all. The hamsters normally just live together and do not have any human contact by hand and have never really been held their entire life.

@MrsKyleBurns1 Actually, hamsters are pretty easy to take care of, in my opinion that is, so your parents will probably let you have one.They sleep during the day mostly and it takes time to train them to let you handle them.If you get one I suggest you DO NOT buy the cage from the brand CritterTrail because my hamsters have escaped many times and the cage is too easy to fall apart.Also the wheel is VERY loud.Usually you would need to change the bedding every week and feed twice a week.

But I think you should deff go with the winter whites... They are naturaly tamed, they never bite. Perry(my winter white) NEVER bit me. He eats from my hand and the interesting thing about the winter whites is that they can change colour! When you leave them in a darker area-- their fur starts to get lighter, that happened to Perry as well..And they can be TOTALLY white. But the colour will change back when you keep them in a lighter area again

I heard that roborovski's are less friendly and if you get them from different families, they will fight. @1998bethany I have two hamsters and they are pretty easy to keep. Feed them every couple days and give them water. Change their bedding once every 1-2 weeks. Much easier than bigger pets like bunnies, dogs, cats, etc.
