Closest to the real deal I've seen yet . Of course no one can reproduce this song perfectly. Prolly took Danny hundres of studio takes, possible splicing ect.Not that Danny isn't a monster on drums, just sayin, how bands do in the studio and all.
But damn solid job, great attention to detail. I like how you played the beginning left handed. I would have played it cross handed, which makes it harder to get to the floor tom.
Jesus christ man there was at least 8 times throughout that I was like O_0 'whooooa'. Fucking epic playing man, where's a drummer like you when I'm looking for one?!
It's good but you need more drums for more sound. Why do you have two identical toms? The only time I've done that is when I wanted to mimic a bass drum. You cymbals are "ok".
dont buy by name just buy by sound, its all preference. just go to a music store and try out some of the cymbals and just buy the ones u prefer. but its all preference man like ive noticed paiste cymbals dont resonate as long as some others but its just depends on what u like
sabian for sure. but i wouldnt get all of the same kind. maybe gat a couple zildians too. i would go to a drum shop and test cymbals of all types and pick the ones you like. have fun with them. i know i always love getting cymbals
@matman142 yea man...go to the store, listen to a bunch of cymbals...every one is different, even if they're the same brand...figure out what ya want...go listen to'em
Good one. I do the same thing at the beginning :-P Shame your hats aren't very audible on closed hits. Right before the solo on those triples try hitting the tom with both sticks together at opposite edges of the head, it sounds nice.
hey man, an awesome recreation of some difficult drumming, liking the improvised intro! your snare sounds pretty wet and fat.....is the skin tight? im sure it would make those uber quick bits a bit more do-able :)
Which part do you mean? Up until the break part with no drums, before the solo, the song is in 4/4 (or 8/4 as I see it), with one 7/4 bar during the intro. From the "no drums"-break on it's in 7/4 with some 8/4 bars here and there, and from the "forty six and two are just ahead of me"-lyrics on it's 8/4 again. But I'm not aware of any parts where the drum and guitar/bass meters are different from each other.
that was amazing man. i always like to look on utube to see drummers try to do danny stuff. and u re one of the best ive seen. although i have to say u should work on ur rudiments a bit more. so u can do the fills with less trouble. but it was really good.

dude that is danny carey from tool playing it u dumbass wow u guys must not know tool,u guys need to fucking know music b4 u listen to it for fuckin gods sake u guys suck dick
It's clearly not Danny Carey playig. Do you even know what he looks like? YOU'RE the one who needs to learn some music before making a fool of yourself.
Thanks for attempting to have an opinion though. :)
That was actually one of the most accurate interpretations i've seen on this... most people don't get that little bridge at about 3:32 right....and you did....
i wan't to upload a video too but 1st i don't know how..2nd i don't have nice kit just 2 cymbals and one broken china and 3rd no mics :(

You nailed this song. Great attention to detail!!
BTW this is my favorite Tool song. This is one song I've always wanted to learn but don't have enough time to isolate all the parts.
My brothers drum line did this song in winter percussion and it was so friggen cool. I'll have to post it sometime. I think you'd like it.

Is the high hat like that in the intro? I thought it was just high hat feet hits of 4 counts.
vigilhammer 1 year ago
@vigilhammer It is 4 counts of feet hits (which is how he's playing it)
I think your missing that he's hitting his mandala pad behind the high-hat

hey brother, noticed on your profile youre using a dw pedal? Are you playing with a single pedal in this recording?
etherealeyes 2 years ago
The dw pedal I got after this vid. On this one I still had an old mapex pedal (I always use twin pedals).
thekillingjoke 2 years ago
@thekillingjoke I couldn't possibly play this song without a double pedal.

Thanks!
The skin must have been quite loose here. That's my old aluminium snare, which is rather oxidated and hardly tuneable.

Maybe some one can correct me if I am wrong, but in the bridge of this song, do the guitar and bass stay in 4/4 while the drums go into 7/8?

you should let some more noise from the cymbals
i dunno if its bc you dont have enough mics (bc they are expensive as fuck) or a w/e but you could here more of the alphas
btw nice job on the fill
i love that fill
