you're very good. i love brandon norris he's amazing. haha but dont listen to these ppl. you're right about how cloggin has evolved. the ppl that really love it, take it as somethin that means the world to them. im on a national champion team and im the captain. clogging means the world to me and it takes a lot of hard work to get as good as some ppl out there. this video is great. keep up the good work(:
This isn't "traditional" clogging. You are fantastic but this is modern clogging. I take offense to your title that this is the way clogging is supposed to be. As a Appalachian woman, I know how to clog "the right way". It's part of our heritage.
you're right..i remember back in the day folks got thrown out of contests, or worse for doing this stuff..this young gal is very good, but you're right..it's not traditional, but the modern style..I learned from guys who were from North Carolina, and they were very adamant about traditional stuff, very low flatfooting mostly..when we did double toes or more, more than once the musicians stopped and told us to leave the stage or grounds..Really..
who can do the best moves or who can win with the judges scores. its all about kickin up the dirt and and haveing fun. clogging isnt fun if all your do'in it for is to win. im 14 years old and im pro level, ive
almost won MVP freestyle at nationals in Lagoon, but really, i could care less cause all i want to hear is the aplaus (or however you spell it :) so sorry about rambling on about this but srsly
i dont dance in any way, but no one is this clog dancing actually uses real clogs like i wanna see how the first people would have danced it from th ebeggining of its orgion
To alison .... I hate to tell you but this is clogging.. just because the she is not in "clogging shoes" it is CLOGGING!! Do your homework sweetie. Very Clean to I might add
I would believe your statement if there was one true factor in it. I am NOT wearing taps. Those are Jazz Sneakers which have NO taps. And this is known as clogging....always has and always will be. Even the basic steps used in these steps are NOTHING like tap steps. I have taken tap...I should know. The shuffle step rock step is on the same foot in tap...clogging the shuffle step and rock step are on opposite feet. Know your stuff before posting! =)
i do know my stuff and you must not know the difference in clogging and tap because you can not tell what any of those steps are the more favor tap than clogging
i have competed against you and i didnt realize this until i looked a another vedio the one with the guy and yall are in the purple and green that was this year yall do the faster clogging rather than the older clogging that could be one reason i couldnt realize the steps and yall did really good at cmpetitions
hunny child, the shoes they have on are jazz shoes...hard rubber and no tap. What you are seeing is alot of an advanced clogging step called buck that uses the toe-ball and double-toe techniqe to make more sounds.
I know they are jazz shoes...I didn't have my clogging shoes with me. You are semi correct with the buck. It has it's buck origins in there. However, even the stuff I'm doing in this video is way more advanced than normal buck steps. Nuck uses A LOT of heel. I never use my heel. So when the judges just my steps, they are more likely to score my higher because of this. Buck is like the type of style you learn when first start out clogging.
No darlin, take it from a state champion, buck scores high. I have never even heard of nuck, whatever the fuck that is... Did you learn from a tap dancer? Just curious. And one more thing before i go ( just a little critiqing) judges dont score high if you cant even hold a tempo.
Sorry for the typo. I won't mess up when I type this though. Take it from someone who has been dancing with a 7 time NATIONAL CLOGGING CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM, who has been featured on American's Best Dance Crew and placed 5th! Ah hell NO i didn't learn from a tap dancer. I learn from the 5 time NATIONAL CLOGGING MALE SOLOIST! Trust me, clogging has evolved.
Buck is the shit under our clogging shoes in the national clogging circuit. And by the way, judges do score higher if you change the tempo. Count my numerous 1st place accapella awards.
are you guys seriously fighting like this??? haha. wow, i might not be the "best clogger" in the world and i may not be the mosy experienced, but i do know that we should leave the competeing additudes to the jazz, hiphop and ballet dancers. clogging isnt about
@uabamagrl God damn you're full of yourself baby!!! Give me a humble old time flatfooter in or from the hills any day, just for the pleasing and alluring combination of skill, creativity, and selflessness.
@fifthworld When you know you're good, you know you're good. Clogging has always instilled that in me. If you want to win you think like a winner. I am humble in the fact that I've got something to show for my talents. There is nothing wrong with that. Flatfoot is an interesting form of dance and clogging has its roots derived from it, however, all I'm trying to say to everyone fighting over this topic is that THIS IS what REAL clogging looks like. Period.
why thank you. Brandon made most of it up for me. I've been clogging for 15 years. Just keep at it and one day you will be twice as good! =) Good luck and keep on cloggin!
I have no clue what it is called. Brandon made it up and showed me how to do it. I can't explain how to do it however I can break it down in a video and post it on here for you. Its not to hard, however, its not elem. clogging. And thanks so much...I learned from the best! =)
I really like the first step you were doing, I'm not sure what it is called but I'm learning it. Are those like a split sole tennis shoe?? They look really comfortable. Btw, concerning the text below, I think you would be hard pressed to find a competitor who does not use double doubles in their routines. It's kinda like clothes in the '80s, It's all coming back!! Great video!!! ;)
As far as I know....they are still a major part of competitive clogging. Even the best dancers still use double doubles....I know this for a fact. Make sure you know your facts before posting! =)
I'm not saying that they are not still used in competition, 95% of all female "rise & Shine" solos start with double-doubles...doing them in today's clogging world is equal to doing basics in the 1980's, everyone can do them. I do know my facts, I have been competing for the last 20 years. I'm not here to start an arguement I was simply making a joke. :)
Thats cool. Thats the only problem with any type of text...Emotions are not included. Makes it hard to determine how you were saying it. It can be taken wrong.
good stuff, although it does look alot like tap, and Irish step dancing w/some Cape Breton..But clogging is a mixture of this stuff anyway, and it's just the new take on it..Actually have seen some great flatfooters nowadays too and their style is a whole lot different but just as good...Go back a bit on your history and you'll see a whole lot of energetic tap dancers from back in the day...You do good stuff, just don't put the other stuff down like you seem to be doing..It's all good dancing..
Now I totally understand where you are coming from. I know some good flatfooters as well. However, I am just trying to get people to understand that the type of clogging I am doing in this video...is its own style. Thats all. I know in the past clogging was flatfoot dancers....but that has changed drastically. There are some great tap dancers that do have lots of energy but to me it doesn't compare to the energy you need to do clogging.
And I do have the right to say becuz I have done both. Dancing is dancing....I just hate when people stereotype this type of dancing to BE tap and hoedown. It is definately a mixture of hints of each form. Its the real, modern clogging.
Cloggers can dance in just about any type of shoes. Just like the dance form itself (a blend of Scottish, Cherokee Indian drag-slide, Tap, jazz, hip-hop, Irish, Canadian....), we blend costume types, shoe styles, solid or double taps, etc. People that haven't seen much of modern clogging often confuse it with tap or irish step.
The steps she did in this video are IN FACT clogging steps that can be found at clogging workshops around the country (advanced hall, of course). The fact that they look like tap steps is irrelevent. What she did here, my friends is modern clogging. Beautiful job with the solo, btw!!!!
MODERN....MODERNNNNNNNN!!!!!! It is Modern clogging. Tradition clogging is flat footed. When someone says "I take clogging" and they dance flat footed I say "Wow, haven't seen that type of clogging since the 1980's!" Clogging is no longer the country line dancing, flat footed, puffy shirts you used to compare it to. It has come a long way and is now its own high energy, toe using entertainment!
F.Y.I. for all of you who are not TRULY familiar with the sound difference between clog and tap. A clog tap is actually a double tap on the toe and heel and sounds more like shoed horses running down the street! And this poor people is more tap...there was not a single clog step in this routine!!!
I don't recall ever seeing tap as much on T.V. as clogging..and I am pretty sure I didn't see tap at the Olympics or the AAU junior Olympics? Why is that sooo..maybe our "shoed horse" sound is more appealing and pleasing to the modern age. More people like clogging than tap. Plus we use WAY more energy than tap. Clogging I will say has "hints" of tap tradition..but mostly it is its ow style of mix: hip hop, jazz, & irish. We stay on the down beat!
those arent the right shoess. lol.
i take clogging. its so much fun. i love it. i have been clogging ever since i was 4. [:
