  • Howard Stern died five years ago it's just that nobody told Howard.

  • and now Jim is coming to XM Deep Tracks next month! excellent!

  • Ironic how this video has an ad tagged on to the beginning of it isn't it?

  • This song is about Howard Stern.

  • @GooserBoomer ..lol@stern..that foul-mouthed fool

  • Awesome song 'bout a true American radio icon....Jim Ladd........A true radio rebel from 1969 and still here.........The King of Free Form Radio! Thanks for all those great Head Set shows.........We'll be listening when you return...........

  • Rock on Jim Ladd, listen to jim ladd one last time on kfi640.com

  • God Night, Good Luck and Godspeed Jim Ladd and KLOS has lost another listener!

  • Goodbye Jim Ladd...

  • Dedicated to Matt Mittan and Agnes Cheek who got canned from WWNC 570 in Asheville yesterday.

I hope Clear Channel crashes and burns like the bland, homogenized corporate pieces of shit that they are...

  • This is for Jim Ladd.....fired from KLOS (LA) yesterday :(

  • Matt Mittan's been fired. Fuck 570, Clear Channel, et al.

  • Jim Ladd just got fired from 95.5 KLOS. Fuck commercial radio.

  • @ucladodgerdog their loss,deep track's gain :D

  • It makes me very nostalgic.

Every single thing on the Radio is now about commercial bullshit. You only hear what the music industry wants you to hear.

  • @kulgan18 thats why I gave up on fm radio years ago. Been loving deep tracks xm 27 since 2004

  • Rebel Heartbreaker Thomas is right-on in The Last DJ. My absolute favorite/The best Rock song of the 21st Century. Mr. Petty is Classic Rock! Keep Fighting the Good Fight Tom!

  • Never got why so many people don't like this song. This is one of my favorites.

  • 2 people don't have the freedom of choice!

  • There goes the last DJ! Over and over all night! can't turn us into whores :)

  • I love this song the lyrics are right on the money. You have to love this song the two people who clicked don't like are corporate scum. "There goes your freedom of choice there goes the last human voice." Beautiful. "How much you'll pay for what you use to get for free" Reminds me of water.

  • @bthecomedy Yeah, reminds me of free radio. I get why HS wanted his own so he could talk fowl mouthed & curse. But I don't get Satelite radio. Radio & Satelite Radio are crap these days. I remember laughing a few years ago because I stopped listening to a radio station that was playing only Christmas music. So I switched. I made the comment to a customer who had Satelite who said they were doing the same thing. I said I thought you had a say in satelite radio, she said no & was dropping hers SR

  • @theart1rm obviously you havent sampled many Sirius/XM channels?

  • @MrProster No I haven't sampled any. I can't afford it. So many my comment was a little off base. Not judging a book by the cover an all. I'm not going to pay for what should be free. I tolerate my radio because I get to work in 10 minutes. For a long drive I listen to my CD's, or MP3.

  • @MrProster dont you listen to the lyrics? ladd and his ilk allowed us to listen to stuff for free

  • @brabon1 with my Dish network subscription,I listen to deep tracks which is included and basically free since they don't charge extra. I also have xm in my car for their offer of $30 for 6 months.(I THINK my car has an am/fm radio :p) It may not be free there but cmon, for $1.50 a week(less than 22 cents a day) it may as well be free. Even when I pay the full price of $12.95/month,Deep Tracks ALONE is well worth the price. The remaining channels are all bonus.

  • @brabon1 not to mention ,they STILL had commercials on klos....deep tracks has zero, nada, zilch :)

  • @brabon1 btw,Tom Petty also has a pretty cool show on Deep Tracks

  • @MrProster i stopped paying for tv last year. im not gonna start paying for radio

  • @brabon1 guess you'll never know what you're missing then eh?

  • @bthecomedy You mention the beauty of the line"There goes your freedom of choice", and yet you're calling the dislikes corporate scum? sounds kinda hypocritical to me. I don't get why they'd find the video, and then vote it down, but hey, that's their choice, I don't hate them for it.

  • BA BA Booey !

  • 2 people work for clear channel.

  • Comment removed

  • 2 people are def

  • The DJ sets the tone! He he or she ain't no good...it kinda pulls the show down!

  • smurfs

  • Anybody have a studio version of this? It used to be on here on youtube but all it's just live. It's still a great song live or studio but I prefer studio.

  • You have to give Tom credit for writing about the truth! I think he hit the nail on the head w/ this song.

  • Great tribute to the real DJ's out there who have to play what the man wants or what the fucking advertisers want between their shitty ad breaks. Commercial radio in the UK really sucks. There is only one station worth listening to in the UK and that is ...

Radio Caroline, real people, real music. Caroline continues ...

  • @FOCUSEGO listen to bbc radio London robert Elms helps if you are a Londoner a bit but the music is great

  • Who clicked the replay button more than once?

  • I wish I could stay awake long enough to listen to Jim Ladd more every night. I do get his late-night program in my area, and Tom's admitted he is the real-life Last DJ referred to in this song.

  • brilliant song - written about george harrison when he passed...

  • @barryhorne10 Actually it was written about the music industry turning to shit. Losing touch with the people. Radio DJs stopped doing shows live and started playing pre-recorded sets.

  • Is this on the Deluxe edition only? Because I have the Live Anthology and it doesn't have this song on it, though I thought it did the first time I listened to it.

  • @areyoureadyeddy yes it is on the 5th disc of the Deluxe Edition

  • @ortizpapelbon34

I'm wondering if I have the Deluxe Edition and somehow misplaced the fifth disc somehow. Are the songs for the fifth disc listed on the back of the CD package?

Because they aren't on mine but I thought for sure I heard the song the first time I listened to the CDs.

  • @areyoureadyeddy hmm, it's on the track listing on mine

  • @ortizpapelbon34

Then I must not have the deluxe edition.

  • @areyoureadyeddy the Deluxe Edition is a large (and I mean large) box that opens up and has all kinds of goodies. a book, a 1979 concert DVD, a documentary DVD filmed during the Wildflowers tour, a Blu-ray disc of the 5 discs in extra HQ sound and a bunch of other assorted goods. it costs around $99 or so and it is definitely a fine investment if you are a big TP fan! good luck hope that helps!

  • @ortizpapelbon34 It's actually $125, but still, it is probably worth it. I only have the regular Live Anthology Compilation, but it's still great. Got it in June, still listening to it

  • @areyoureadyeddy

I am a big fan but also a broke fan. Still can't figure out why I thought I heard the Last DJ the first time I listened to it.

  • I got this CD Set new on E-bay for $16.50 . So Cool, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Rock out!!!

  • @bronco7xxl Have not recieved the 4 disc set yet! Thanks guys I didn't know there was a 5 disc Collectors set? I saw the list of song's, and My favorites are not even on them! No Room at the top, Walls, Angel Dream, You don't know How it Feels? What's up with that? Maybe another Cd?

  • @bronco7xxl Angel Dream 2 is on one of the 4 disks.

  • best 100 bucks i ever spent on this set.

  • Been there, done that, once got fired for taking a tee shirt

  • "The Last DJ" is my hero. I wish I could be like him.

  • "As we celebrate mediocrity..." as truer statement hasn't been presented. A great song.

  • Kinda ironic how they've taken down the video to this on here... or am I just not finding it?

  • @docileprimate No, i noticed it too, its just so dumb because fm use to be about being a rebel and playing what ever they wanted and saying whatever they wanted but now it seems so controlled and maintained. this song just makes so much sense i love it.

  • @docileprimate The latter.

  • Tom Petty is awesome. Can't wait to see him in September!! Hope he plays this song. Love how he mixes it up with cover songs when you see him live.

  • fantastic song and sadly it rings true....i'm old enough to remember what radio once was...hell what this country used to be. Corperations have screwed us all.

  • One of my favourites!

  • I love this song ,sounds great live, thanks alot

  • @lvpeckerwood no problem, thanks for the comment!
