HEHE :) Well, I'm native German and I *should* actually be offended by this, but gladly I'm not too easily offended =D
Plus, the way the singer sings reminds me a LOT of our Herbert Grönemeyer, maybe they're even trying to imitate him? =) At any rate, that's a hilarious old gem.
@reiknir pre-dated? Oh, that's what you think! :) His first album came in 1979 :)) And I'd say his sunshine-blond hairdo on the cover comes very close to German schlager singer Howard Carpendale ;-)
@pianoman74 Yeah but was not generally available, not even in Germany so hardly an inspiration to anyone , by your reckoning these guys are obviously more inspired by Heine, one of them is even blond and has a similar hairdo. Sorry but importation of German records stopped in 1976 in Iceland, if the bands were not on UK labels (Grauzone, TD, Kraftwerk, DAF et. al.) or on Sky (imported for a couple of years in the early 80's) no German artist inspired anything over there.
bla bla bla bla bla always the same stupid discussions! they want people like you to react exactly like this! its called "provocation"! ever heard of it?
Kids of today don't understand sarcasm. And they don't know what fascism is.
Fashism=corporatism=neoconservativism. Neoconservativism is the idea of perpetual war. You need an outside enemy in order to unite the nation. By "unite" they mean blind obedience.
In a magazine interview Siggy said "we were not real Nazis, we were just showing off". Though it's not obvious that they are anti-fascist the point I think was to be appear controversial and sinister, like movie bad guys.
Their music was a elitistist and occult like Nazis and Thelema and all that, but no racial message other than a bit of pride.
Brian Ferry stated how beautiful the Nazis were a few years back and the media went mad and called him a racist! But he and Peyr are right.
i'm 75% sure that i've have a DIY zine somewere(sorry, cant find it...), where there are a article about the islandic 80ies punk, sceen that says; that the islandic punk sceen does'nt have lyric about politic. but the most of the punks where sowhat socialistict.
All of these are/were either socialist or anarchist or communist: Hryðjuverk! Purrkur Pilnikk Utangarðsmenn Dys Das Kapital Forgarður Helvítis Morðingjarnir Ónytjungar Skríll! Tentacles of Doom Death-Metal Supersquad Pretty every Icelandic punk band is leftist. Þeyr were anti-racist and from what I´ve heard the bandmembers were all pretty leftist but the band was never very political.
What do people think of the album version of this song? It is the one Peyr song I never really listen to as it was never as definative and heavy as this version, but I think the idea was to be unpredictable (if not in the process sounding like Jaz Colemon too).
I'm sure the actual sung lyrics are "....he knows how far to travel", and "united in your common hate".
Tú y un puñado de palurdos de pueblo se confunden y no entienden que esta es una canción antifascista. Es una burla a los dictadores, no una alabanza. Por favor...
English translation? Irony or sheer goofiness? However, as I happen to have Þeyr's 'As above...´in my shelf - here it is: Rudolf does not ask the questions nor answer them, but his suggestions sink in to the mind of the mob. With throbbing hearts in blind belief they act their parts with great relief. Rudolf is your shade, your double. He knows your fear, he knows your trouble - his presence will dispel your fears. You are invited to share his fate, to stand united on your common hate.
And the guy who did this video / documentary went on to make an *unbelievably* good movie called Cold Fever. It's one of my all-time favorite movies ever.
I sometimes see it on ebay. I think the guy charges something like $30. And I don't know if he's allowed to be selling them...but where else would we get them? I guess you could try to contact the people who relesed the documentary originally, but who knows what they have.
Rokk í Reykjavík was originally released on VHS. Production has stopped and copies are hard to come by. Why they still haven't released it in DVD is beyond me. Friðrik Þór's big enough in Iceland that I think they could manage it.
The singer, Magnus, is currently dating my mother, so I find this insanely Epic

People who don´t get the sarcasm in the song and call them nazis, should spend a night outside on a mountain in iceland, to get the head clear.
