  • Must have a good battery!

  • Its been on golf carts for years. And as long as you maintain the engine you are all set. If the maintenance is sloppy, have fun with that...

  • I was looking at this on the Honda website and it makes no mention of this feature nor does the dash show the standby light. Is it a feature not yet available in the US?

  • @matao87

I wouldn't be surprised if it was made illegal.

  • I was actually just thinking about when we would see this technology find its way to motorcycles/scooters. this feature was on a few cars but this is kewl :)

  • lol, run that old bitch over at the end!!

I'm not a fan of scooters, but damn that's pretty sweet.

  • Thats fancy

  • it actually starts up directly from the dynamo without the interference of a startmotor. I ride one and i love it. it does 40 km on a liter of fuel so it's very efficiënt.

  • Nice Video

  • do you think it has battery assisted takeoff therefore that would be why its soo quiet at start??

  • At 6:04 was that flash a speed camera? or.. just a blur of light?

  • is SYM even good?

  • I have a Honda CR-Z same concept. It actually is a nice feature.

  • Comment removed

  • essentially it is a hybrid motorcycle

  • @pcracer2 *scooter

  • @pcracer2 no it's not

  • @pcracer2 how exactly? there's only one fuel source

  • @bennett346 the starter may act as a running motor to get the scooter moving until the gas motor starts and takes over

  • Search for Gilera Nexus 500cc

  • well look at golf carts, gas powered golf carts do the same thing, you take your foot off the gas, the motor shuts off, (not true of all golf carts but most) pretty cool that it can shut off and turn on with just a little twist of the throttle. pretty cool.

  • Oh, and the hump is annoying for tall people. You can remove it, but it leaves a couple of bumps where the screws go in. Some peeps get a custom seat fitted...I just use tape to hide the holes ;)

  • I've got one in black - been out a while in the UK. It's got to be on the best scooters around I think. Pretty sure the anti-idle won't engage again if a) there's no weight on the seat or b) the kick stand is down ;)

  • u scared that lady in the ally with ur headlights lol she froze then moved to the side hehe

  • yappy dogs, autocorrect not helping

  • @13mordeth there is only room for those silly happy little dogs under the seat, just get it to ride pillion. I have seen it done in Thailand!

  • Always see these cool scooters then remember I live in America where no one rides them

  • Honda isnt bad but if you live in europe the best to take is piaggo.

  • @AngelzPrid3 Says who?

  • @IONxBozzeh52 A lot of people of Europe,Myself a guy who owns a scooter shop in Germany and owned a scootershop in Morocco

  • M13 check out the sport city one!

  • But does it blend?

  • wow very cool features

  • I love how when ur bike shop gets a brand new item u just hop on and leave, thats awesome lol

  • Lol, its a Honda PCX 125cc engine :D

  • It probably has a weighted flywheel.

  • So a thief only has to get on it to steal it now...

  • well I think those features are designed to save gas, energy and probably it was designed to pretty much extend the life of the scooter as well as improving its user friendly features

  • @DaToNyOyO, yup, you have to keep your battery in good condition. There is no kick start on the PCX.

  • @ 6:09, That subaru was beautiful and sounded amazing. I wonder if it was a 22B STi?

  • @kazeboy1 Definitely not a 22B.

  • @kazeboy1 lol i noticed that too

  • ...great.

Unless your battery is on the way out, at which point the headlight drains it and the bike won't start.

  • Looks like the Honda PCX in North America.

  • @vac0002 IT IS THE PCX IN NORTH AMERICA! They removed that feature from the North American model.

  • Reminds me of the Prius.. scared the crap out of me the first time I took a family member's out for a car wash!

  • »»───Knee───►

  • I have had a PCX for almost two years. There has been no problems with the stop start system or the battery. It's a great scooter if you don't need the platform for carrying dogs or sacks of rice. The under seat storage is excellent though, you can fit a lot of shopping in there. It also has a bigger tank than most scooters so the range is very good.

  • @fingersnospig Do you think I could jam my dog in the seat? Perhaps if I broke her legs first?

  • @13mordeth Sure! I have no problem fitting my midgit mule in there that way...

  • Sorry, I like my basic old ZX7. If I want rear braking I use the rear brake. IF I want it to turn off I use the kill switch. If I don't want to wheelie I use my right wrist like a boss.

  • It's a Honda PCX 2012.

  • I've never been a scooter guy but I'd actually want to ride that one

  • I wonder if bigger bikes will have this in the future to keep the bike cool, you know?...even my 250 gets kinda warm if I've been stuck in traffic at red lights for a while.

  • I like! How much?

  • @mjavor According to M13 it's a special import to Taiwan right now and the price is NT168,000 (about $5,700 CAD).

  • the constant starting and stopping of the engine will hurt it

  • @mjavor Nice copy and paste. haha

  • Oh btw I laugh everytime I see JD "bye bye, see you next time"

  • Where can I find one of these? I searched the net (on my phone) and couldn't find anything about it in the US. Is it only in Asia? When I'm able to get on my pc ill do a more detailed search.

  • Wow that started soo much smoother than i thought it would, not really a fan of link braking though, rode a mates bike who didn't tell me once haha

  • Alot of new cars have it, especially Audi's. It saves alot of fuel at red lights

  • So how much did Honda pay you?

  • @Lazerecho I don't think Honda paid him. If you ever watched his video, when it comes to scooter, M13 is a Yamaha guy.

  • @motopuka I've seen his videos; Hello kitty, yeah yeah yeah!

  • @Lazerecho So how much attention do you require a week?

  • @TrentonH1 Why do you ask? Want to ask me out but afraid I'm too high maintenance?

  • @Lazerecho ......yes. No just kidding im taken but i ask because the only reason i think you posted that was to get attention considering he has no honda products right now and it was somewhat negative

  • @TrentonH1 Although Lazerecho had some witty and entertaining comments I still think TrentonH1 wins in the end, because he kept his cool and played along. Good for you TrentonH1.

  • 7:16 You should've just ran her over.

  • Honda is back on top of the scooter game. Do Taiwan have the Honda faze 250? That is the hottest looking scooter to date, IMO.

  • @daedalx Honda used to be big in Taiwan a long time ago. But Taiwan Honda and Japan Honda had a civil war. And Taiwan Honda was cut off from Japan. So Taiwan Honda split down the middle and became two new scooter companies....SYM and Kymco.

  • What's under that middle hump? Seems kind of crappy to not have that scooter foot platform area.

  • If it doesnt hurt the engine then thats pretty cool!

  • I've had several scooters with a similar feature. It's usually fixed by adjusting the idle:-p

Kidding aside: Cool looking machine. I don't get how the hell they make it sound like the startermotor isn't running. The engine has to start somehow ffs.

  • @jo05dk A few cars do not use the starter - they rely on sensors to recognize when a piston is at or very close to TDC when the engine is stopped. When the throttle is used, the injector sprays fuel into that cylinder and the ignition event starts the engine again sans starter motor input. Possible that this does as well.

  • @anfman1986 That's a pretty brilliant idea. Never heard of it, so thank you for updating me. On a one cylinder like the Honda there must be a few extra pieces of trickery involved, to make sure the piston is positioned correctly every time though. It should be doable imo, and is the most logical explanation so far.

  • @jo05dk There's a link in the video description that shows exactly how the Honda achieves this effect.

  • @anfman1986 I'd like to know what cars are these you speak of, every car I know of that does this no-idle feature uses an electric motor to propel the car while giving the engine a running start.

  • Comment removed

  • Is it new/unique to have this feature on scooters? because cars have had this for a while now.

  • what so amazing its honda they converted their electric car to a scooter. save gas and store power lol

  • Idlestop, auto gearboxes, cruise control, auto braking, traction control, air bags, speed limiters, auto lane checking, auto stability control, cars that follow each other, airbag m/cycle jackets, what's next? Personally, I want a car that, after I crash, it will wipe my ass!!

  • 3:00 - M13 has an acid flashback!

  • @afrosteviac ROFL!!

  • This is really cool. I kinda want one.

  • Check out world dot honda dot com/motorcycle-picturebook/idling/stop

  • Wonder if the battery would drain faster because of this feature...

  • @Mistermaimon Possibly.

  • I HATE link braking!!!

  • I dont like scooters, no power at all.

  • no place for the dog !

  • After watching this video I had to figure out how it worked and it's really quite ingenious. The system is designed to recognize where the piston is located within the bore and then uses combustion to restart the motor instead of a starter. Quite impressive. They say this technology has been around since the 70's, originally in cars.

  • More of an underbone than a scooter, still cool though.

  • Most new cars come with it. I work about 20m from a BMW garage and they test all the new 11plate 5series. I asked wether or not it would damage the car in anyway and they said yes.

The Ignition Coils will just burn out over say 12-18months of use. But reason for it is to cut emmisions. they'd rather have 0emmisions and you pay £130+ every year than have say 45% emmisions. so in the long run it works but in the short term pointless.

  • that's noting new I had a old car that stalled and motor died at every stop lol.

  • @larasa007 Hahhahahahahahahaah! Been there, got the T shirt!!! X¬D

  • this has been on honda cars for a couple of years now

  • Honda should pay you for this great review. You probably sold them a ton of these HA!

  • Shame this is only a 125.

  • very expensive here ... honda pcx

  • i dont see how that saves gas? doesnt it use more gas turning it on and off?

  • how hard is this engine shutdown feature on the batteries?

  • if you can turn it off, its fantastic

most of new cars have "start-stop" functions to save fuel and mostly emmissons on tests so they can ahcieve better numbers for company owners, in real life i don't think it works that well

really if saving 0.5-1L/100km will help than really you don't need to drive or ride since its way to expensive anyway

  • when it went all fuzzy for teh censor i wasnt expecting it and thought i was having a stroke -_-

  • I was skeptic until you gave the demonstration. Very interesting scooter!

  • You gota love Honda! the power of dreams!!!

  • I have one of these and absolutely love it. It is a Honda PCX125i. It gives me 100mpg and hits 67mph. It is the most fun I have had on a scooter. The engine cut off is excellent. You get used to it very quickly. Handling is good. You can touch the centre stand down regularly. Acceleration is excellent. A fun scooter to have. Nice vid by the way.

  • I just find the whole concept stupid. How about a stop sign where no cars or any other vehicle is. You stop for a second and I turns off as soon as you speed up. I wouldn't like it. I love you Honda, but this is one fail.

  • @CommanderCoward Apparently it's able to restart the engine within 0.4 of a second. Heh. Give me a bike with a clutch and gearbox any day! ;¬)

  • it's gimicky,you don't need that feature on a scooter that must do over a hundred mpg,surely.

  • @fj9fl61 Honda advertise it as being capable of 135mph with this feature included! :¬o

  • seems like a prius on 2 wheels

  • I guess the weight sensor is a good idea because it stops people accidentally leaving their bike running outside to warm it up or something and it getting stolen.

  • interesting bike, i like the stop/start but i don't care much for linked brakes, even if it is 30% on the front that might be enough to cause a accident on say a wet painted line or on some wet over banding or drain covers. when you're doing T.W.A.T do you hire the scooters or do you keep your own?

  • Cars have the same thing so I guess it'll work

  • Honda has been doing this in their hybrid cars since 1999. It is a little different than this, the electric motor replaces the starter, but it has the same effect.

  • Citroen put that in a c3 in like 2004

  • so f-ing ugly

  • That's neat

  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinters - The newer ranger are starting to also use this stop and start system, Most of our drivers HATE it !!!

    Haha

They're all being sent back to us by the people who have bought them to get it removed haha

Millions of Pounds - Wasted, For Mercedes Benz haha

  • My car does that it's annoying but I found a way to switch it off. That's the only thing I dislike about new cars.

  • I just read an article claiming the US version will not have the no-idle feature.

  • @psychodad1961 *goo(dot)gl/2n7jG*

  • sounds like it some expensive electronic for the no idle

  • yeah my car does this. it's a bit annoying when you're in a traffic jam. but you can turn it off. it's called eco mode.

  • where is the space for dogs? flaw in design!

  • Such a scooter needs a large battery.

  • I am 3rd prestige(:

  • So i'm guessing it's 12v not 6v like a lot of scooters, so the lights dont dim when the engine stops. Also imagine it has a higher capacity battery, and some sort of improved charging to that battery.

  • People will constantly think. "That noob somehow stalled a scooter."

  • I like the idea and I like the scooter too and thats coming from an old macho man that used to think all scooters were lame.... hmmm maybe I got more mellow with age!

  • I have a Honda PCX and I love it. I have rented both Honda Click's and a Yamaha Nouvo (which it is most similar to) before buying my PCX, I like the feel of the PCX alot more. Speed is pretty similar to the Nouvo (rev limiter kicks in at 106km/h).

  • I have one and the start stop works like a charm. nice vid.

  • This has been a common item in a lot of European (mainly German) cars already. Take BMW and Mercedes for example, most of their cars have had this feature for a number of years. Nothing is new with this kind of technology.

  • M13's version of top gear!

  • Had one of these in Thailand for 2 years, top scooter.

  • Well it's interesting, and obviously will help economy and emissions, but it's just something extra to go wrong after a few year of ownership.

  • @wordreet Possibly. Or it could be something less to go wrong since this scooter doesn't have a traditional starter.

  • @13mordeth A starter motor is a starter motor though, they all have a small centrifugal clutch that disengages as the engine powers up. I think that with cold starting, to ensure that fuel gets to the cylinder, the system allows a couple of rotations before providing a spark. But Honda presumably have set up some sort of friendly agreement between the fuel injection and the ignition timing that allows instant starting when the engine is warm from a few seconds running.

  • @wordreet the version that was explained to me (?BMW?) remembers which cylinder last fired, and it resumes in less than a single engine rotation.

Might actually cause less wear than an engine idling with no load.

  • @wordreet I'm wrong there. The starter is build around the crankshaft and presumably uses induction/brushless power instead of the old fashioned brushes/commutator. And it then becomes the alternator as the engine runs. Cool.

  • @wordreet Check it out on honda's international website. It uses the stator and flywheel as a brushless direct-drive motor. Nothing more than what you usually find on stator coil except for an angle sensor.

  • @ph13rwun Yup, I did that 5 hours ago. ;¬)

  • @13mordeth A traditional starter is not hard to find a replacement for and fix though, their new system probably is.

  • @Smennyboy No, it just uses combustion. Nothing more than fuel and a spark.

  • @ButterflyDragon9 I just found info about it on world dot honda dot com apparently it does use the starter motor, and also a 'decompression' mechanism, that partly opens the exhaust valve, relieving the cylinder pressure. It then allows what they are calling 'swingback' which rotates the crankshaft back a bit enough to allow it almost a full revolution before getting the spark. Damn, that is clever stuff!

  • @wordreet That's good stuff. I"m quite impressed.

  • @ButterflyDragon9 Pretty clever, but it still has all of the sensors and shit.

  • @wordreet HONDA < they don't fuck up.

  • @AliFugginB I agree, their engineering quality is well proven. Time will tell for this new feature.

  • it's very silent! i bet i costs a shitload of money, which i would rather invest into a proper bike, but it's pretty amazing though

  • As always with Honda they have great names for their cars and bikes.

  • plus it does me 125miles to the tank! huge money saver. and so efficient

  • OMG i have this scooter!!! its a Honda PCX. its so good for commuting. i've had it for 4 months now and it was released here in the uk last year. i absolutely recommend this scooter!

  • Do you really need that on a 125 :/

  • Look at all these turkeys raggin on M13 about how theyve seen it before... shutup and give the dude a break... LOL @ prestige world wide... Respect to da mon dat be sayin "HEY GUYS" :D:D:D

  • Prestige worldwide!!

  • Neat, first time i see or hear of a stop and go mode for 2 wheeled vehicles.

But i wouldnt like that on my Kawasaki Er6-n, because i like to rev a little at stops :D

  • Hey mordeth,

The Fiat has this feature too on it's new stick shifts. You come to a stop at the light and the engine turns off and as soon as you press in the clutch the engine starts again. It's a royal pain in the but and I let the engineers know it. It's a total annoyance I don't like the idea of sitting powerless at a light when someone hits me from behind and I had to wait for the engine to start. Besides start up is the hardest on parts. Silly idea.

  • @TheTacticalBarrage I hear you. But it seems like all the negatives you mention aren't a problem on the Honda. There's no wait for start-up and they designed the engine to have "non-damaging" start-ups.

  • @13mordeth It was the delay between pressing the clutch and the engine starting in the fiat that made me worry. You are in a turn lane and people want to go not wait for you to start your car. The instant start and fact they considered part wear is nice. Now you made me wonder how they did it and I have to go look up info on the interwebs lol The weight sensor in the scooter might just be a contact switch like on a riding lawn mower. Body weight pushes the contacts together and it will start.

  • @TheTacticalBarrage Hello my friend, I understand what you mean but if you want to be prepared to go all the time, why don't you wait with the car in gear and the clutch in? The engine wont stop and you're even more "ready to go" than sitting with the car in neutral. Seems safe and problem solved don't you think?

  • @aceairgt3 That is a good idea exceptWhen you depress the clutch, the fork in the clutch presses the throwout bearing against the pressure plate to release the clutch. That puts both pressure and rotation on the throwout bearing, which normally just floats on the end of the fork. Because of the way the throwout bearing is used it is expected to be under load only a handful of hours in the entire lifespan of the clutch. Holding the clutch is not a good idea for any extended period.

  • @TheTacticalBarrage I see, I see. Well in that case, all I can think of is having a certified technician disabling the start/stop feature. Hopefully it's just a software thing.

  • @aceairgt3 It was a prototype for 2012 in fiat stick shifts. I am a test driver for Roush and part of what I do is give feed back to design engineers on car features. I don't know if they went to production but I hope not.

  • Quick question. When you ride with the borrowed bikes, do you drive more carefully so you don't crash it, or are you confident in your ability to not fuck up?
