6100 is so more organic sounding, the JVM, ive owned one, goes into solid state sounding modeeling tone real easy. its got nice tones, but its no where near in any sense of the word as good as the old marshalls, even the 6100 blows its head off with pure tone.
Sorry dude, that is not what the JVM crunch red channel sounds like. JVM Red Crunch is a thing of beauty on my 410C. I dunno where you are at with speakers, tubes and mic's on your demo but the JVM sounds really dead. Not that I don't appreciate your efforts to compare tho '
@jimsreynolds - well, it IS what the JVM Crunch Red sounds like, but only on a crappy camera phone. If you look at my other videos I've demoed it with a close mic set up next to the 6100. My speakers are GT12-75s (standard stock Marshall speakers) and the tubes were stock - but this isn't a great representaion of the amp as it's just a phone mic.
these made great pop/punk amp , love the sound at 1.14 !!!! i know a lot of people talk s*** on Marshall .. but i still think they have their signature sound and that sound is a-w-e-s-o-m-e . i need something that cover very high gain for punk rock /early thrash metal if possible . which one should i choose ? its mostly for punk rock ..
@DillonBerkley Well I believe I did state it was just a brief camera clip. There are close mic'd demos on my real page: mikelivesley. But also - welcome to 2008, when I owned the JVM. I still have the 6100 - it just works for me personally.
Actually, I prefer the JVM here. The 6100 sounds like there is all twang and no tone. The JVM sounds more warm. 6100 vs JVM in THIS video sounds like Neal Young vs Joe Bonamassa.
Satriani says that there's a new, modded JVM coming next year that's more open and less compressed. I'm anxious to hear it. I just hope it doesn't have his name all over it. I just want a great amp that's not all nu metal saturation. That old tube warmth has been pushed back in the name of gain in recent years.
You must have used two cabs to record this. Then the angle to the mice on the cam gets different. and that affects tone a lot. Most recordings like this with a cam sounds like shit and and don´t give any amp justice.
And the 6100 is not a hybrid amp. The actual signal path is just valve.

Jvm the flagship of marshall?when companies make newer models its supposed to sound much better than the older..but here i can clearly hear the jvm is terrible compared to the 6100..shows you..if you get the right tone..dont mess with it..newer is not better at all
hey, nice marshall 6100! is it capable of metal? i know the JVM is. im think of getting one, i love the versatility, they're hard to find but cheaper than the JVM. if u have time can u maybe make a video of the 6100 with brutal metal tones dialed in? thanks
i actualy thought they sounded pretty different. The Jvm was darker and muddier with less dynamics. Surprised me really. I've never heard of the 6100 until earlier today in a marshall forum
@d3reilly I used to haul around a JCM800 head and 4x12 cab to shows. Now I use a Marshall Vintage Modern 2x12 Combo, and it actually cuts through the mix better.
Unless you are playing stadiums you don't need a head and cabinet. Stacks are for players with small penises. People will tell you there is a difference in tone, but there really isn't.
Murfdog, you are wrong. A sealed cab has a tighter and better bass response than an open back cabinet (as most guitar combos are open backs). Open backs also have figure-8 -polarity, which has a clear sonic difference to a sealed cab. Open cab sounds more open but cannot handle and produce the low end. Sealed also protects the speakers, since it limits their excursion, preventing breakdowns. And there is the added surface area of multiple drivers, which definitely affects both volume and tone.
That's why most guitar players use a combo in the studio. One of the greatest guitar tones of all time, Eric Clapton's Beano tone was produced with a 2x12 combo, not a stack.
The JVM did sound much fatter and thicker on the recording. I used to have the 6100 head, it's a great amp. I've been looking into the JVM as of late, great clip
@MetalScreamer510 it all depends what you want to do with it, if youre doing ac/dc or van halen pre-hagar, then yeah 6100. but from my experience with the jvm, it's a metal machine. it's more modern voiced and has a pretty beefy bottom end for a marshall. i'm not saying that the jvm is better, it's just like the old saying: apples to oranges
I think I liked the 6100 more in that clip, definitely sounded more open and raw rock & roll where as the JVM sounded more smoother higher gain from the recording. Cheers for posting it!
Jvm def more of a metal. and the way its set up there kindas blows. you can def make it way brighter and sound like an angel singing, and even like the screeches from satans daughter so yea jvm
yes it is my friend i have the jvm and you have to play and play and play with it with the same guitar for weeks and to figure it out, but when that magic happens you can get it too sound like the best marshall out there, i really believe that! unless you know how to or have the money to hot rod one!
the newest marshalls sound like shit... i dont like my DSL 100 that much... i never kranked it up ... i'll krank it up for my first big gig in paris in about 4 months ! the jvm sounds cool (od1 green)
of course its hybrid man , SO ? i didnt say that amp is the best ever , i said its pretty cool . So why you try to specifiy its not an all tube amp ? Can be cool even if its not all tube power. I wont start here , there's too many amps for so many different tastes .

The 6100 sounded lacking in mids, trebly and a tad thin.
JVM sounded rounded and powerful. JMO (Just my opinion) :)

6100 beats the JVM easily. Goes to show how much Marshall has fallen that an older hybrid amp cab beat their modern flagship amp.

clean is alright for a marshall, but then you get to the
crunch, od1, od2
green, orange, red
its just like shit not enough gain, shit a little more, little more, little more, too much, alright thats it. you know.
finding a lead sound on it was a little harder for me but if you use the resonance and presence you can dial it in usually on the od 1 channel
notrightloser 3 years ago 2
