  • holy shi- voice acting on the snes!?

  • I loved Tales of Phantasia to death and this game reminds me so much of it. Dejap translated Star Ocean many years ago, I can't believe I'm only just playing it now. It's like I've been missing a piece of myself and finally found it. This game rocks.

  • Which is more play-worthy? This one or the PSP remake?

  • Stares at the screen, then back at my memory.*

THIS is the game I've been looking for, for the past 3 years!?

God...DAMMIT! Well, at least I got lucky to find it again.

  • They decided to remake 1 & 2 for the PSP after seeing how much interest there was in the romhacking community and years after people had already been playing it in English courtesy of DeJap.

  • BAH! I have been tricked! Oh well. I'm still set on getting this game now. I might as well finish what I started.

  • WUUUUUUUT?! Why didn't anyone ever tell me this game had english dub in it! oh man oh man!!!! Going to order an import of this badboy TONIGHT!

  • @Neutral1

Well. I think the only english voices are the humans, while the guys with tails (haven't played this game in years) all speak Japanese.

  • Holy crap is this impressive. Easily the best-looking game on SNES.

  • god damn this looks and sounds beyond belief!!! if the people that made Tales of Phantasia made this, it's bound to be amazing. i'm about to play it on psp

  • The dialogue is word for word from star trek VI which is why this was never brought to america/ why its in english

  • @DLH112 Actually, the reason it was never brought to the US was because Enix had temporarily shut down its American division, although if it did come to the states they probably would have had to change the dialogue.

  • you can make voices in the SNES?

  • The first one reminds a lot of stories that appear in ancient history, of Alien visits from thousands of years ago and such...and our future, that someday it would be US who would be the "Aliens" intercepting in another planet´s business...that´s why I started liking that Star Ocean series and this is the game that made me get past the whole anime thing on certain JRPGs that I hated, I can now pass and even appreciate the style of many of these...

  • 0:10 to 0:16 was enough for me. Those six seconds just prove how superb SNES audio is. Even though I've never played this game, for some odd reason, I was overcome with so much nostalgia, I wanted to throw up.

Really reminds me of Chrono Trigger & Super Mario RPG, since they're based off the same MIDI.

  • Is there any translated version of this game that's stable?

I've tried one but that one was... what should call it interesting to play ;) never know when it crashed... =D

  • Looks and sounds really cool! It's a shame that this never made its way to the U.S. during the SNES days. I should get this imported!

  • get the rom, or get Star Ocean first departure for the PSP its a remake and pretty damn awesome

  • @kibjohn There are excellent translations everywhere, but you won´t be able to use it with an actual cartridge...just roms on emulators.

  • From 0:18 to 0:46... I looked at that and before i heard what he said at 0:46 I thought to myself:

''Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before.'' And I laughed my ass of when he said what he says at 0:46

  • when square and enix didn't know each other... those where good times

  • @EddieEddieEddie90 i agree

  • Technical marvel for SNES

  • What the fuck that's insane how awesome the voice acting is. I'm blown away....

  • was looking to play this.. looks exactly like ToP wtf?

  • The people that made Tales of Phantasia broke off and formed Tri-Ace. Star Ocean is the spirtual succesor to Tales of Phantasia.

  • lol ''WHAT THE HELL!'' at 1:57 , never thought I could hear that in a SNES game

  • ive been trying to play this game on zsnes but i cant see the game. i can hear everything but why cnat i see anything. all i see is alot of white. whats the deal with that?

  • yo get snes9x. that plays every game cuz i had the same problem.Plus get the english version of this and Tales Of Phantasia from RomNation.

  • Yeah- the remake is way better than this version. The characters have well-suiting designs, better features, and a slower storyline that makes more sense.

  • Wow, voice acting on SNES, sure is nice qualitiy for an 16 bit console.

  • Really? Thats a damn shame cause 2&3 were pretty good and they're remaking 1&2 for psp. I still havent played it yet so thanks for the warning.

  • Is this the Super Famicom version or was there a pal version? Is it all in English? Or is this a hack?

  • the game voices are in english because Enix was plaining to launch it on America. But Enix America go bankrupt in 1997 and the game was only launched in Japan.

Sorry for my bad english XD

  • The intro of this game is really good, and so is the first hour of gameplay. Then it just falls flat and becomes uninteresting unfortunately.
