  • Great demo, but the audio and video are out of sync; any chance of fixing this and reuploading.

  • I have a Prophet 600 that I bought in a pawn shop for $60 in 1993. It has AMAZING sound that surprises most people when they hear it live. I cherish it and have used it on many records. Great, underrated synth!!!

I also believe that is the the first synth ever that included a MIDI port (with the Roland Jupiter-6 right behind) ......

  • @DJPeteJames

that right there is an analog synth for you :P

  • i own a p600 and would love to know how you sync the synth to the drum machine.

  • Does anybody know where to get Sound Patches (SysexDumps) for this synth? Anyboby wnating to share sounds?

  • YEAH!!!... :)

  • yeah!!.. :)

  • Captain Future ... megascharfe Sounds.

  • remembers me floyd..

  • Category: Science & Technology

    For.The.Win.

This Prophet tells the future for sure!

  • To any Millionaires out there.. Please can you spare some change to purchase me a Prophet 08 Synthesizer? And I will be eterally grateful. Thank you.

  • i love it!

  • stylin

  • Cool! You must have the drum Machine Mod! :p. Yeah, still have My Six Trak! NEVER letting her go! I've got a 600 but she needs serious work! Had to use some of the Curtis chips out of her to get my OB-8 working! :( the Prophet didn't mind since its for a good cause! :)

  • fun!

  • Oh noes.

Your Prophet is leaking some dangerous current.

Sent to me for repair. ;)

  • nice sounds

  • Best. Syntheziser. Ever.

  • hello ! I own a prophet 600 , have read the manual but still haven't understood how to dump the factory sounds , and make my own sounds " from scratch " .

Could anyone please help me with that ?

many many thanks in advance for any suggestion !

  • @alanwilder81

Use a sysex dump program like Midi OX , load the file and send it to the P6000

  • @retrosound72

thanks so much for promptly replying !

i am new to synths , and i would like you to giv rme more information about Midi OX , where to get it from and how it works .

So far , i have been told to just switch off the " preset " button , and twist the knobs : i actually got a horrible , punchy brass-like sound , imposible to change .... i dont think i am doing well . any further advice is more then welcome : cheers mate

  • @alanwilder81 How long have you owned your keyboard? Do you know if anyone else has one for sale or where to purchase one? What year was the keyboard created, & would you sell yours? Also, other vintange synths, what are the same of some of them? I have a moog rogue. It's not for sale, but I'd like to get others. Thanks.

  • damn i love the way this sounds more than my prophet 08

  • great sound. filter is agressive in a very different way than classic P1/P5 filter.

however, the slow software envelopes lagging behind the beat are painfully obvious. to an extent this can be remedied with track offset in daw/seq, but still not the same.. pity.. i really like the sound.

still it would work fost most things very uber snappy attack isnt needed .. i.e. pads leads, fx... just not arpeggio and sequenced bass lines.

  • Hello, How do you sync the rhythm with the synth tempo?

  • wow this is raw,,,,

  • eh,no niemożliwe,zaj...y analog,kolo ma piątke z obsługi

  • eh,no niemożliwe,zaj...y analog,kolo ma piątke z obsługi

  • du machst mir spass....LG Cris / Hamburg

  • The 600 is the best synth Sequential ever made imho and Sequential made many brilliant synths. just listen to it. there is not one place where the synth sounds anything but totally credible. plus, you can leave it in any state and it it still makes a track interesting. an unbeatable synth. It even beats an OB8.

  • thats a wicked synth

  • Steve Halpern does some beautiful stuff with this one, combining it with acoustic piano and rhodes

  • @DJPeteJames its just really loud in the mix you can hear it clipping

  • why cant synths be simple anymore? like these =[ so much real time control with the knobs, and such authentic powerful sounds. The more futuristic music gets, the more it forgets it's roots.

  • @Synthesized13 modern synths are as simple as you want, i.e. just cause the features are there doesnt mean you have to use them

that and you think modern synths are complex look back to the first modulars and pretty much anything pre mini moog

    peace

    Brian

  • there is no HQ toi click on any more

  • Mmm. Sounds like childhood.

  • I like the 600. I think it's one of SC's most under rated boards...plus it's not massive or heavy.

I like the power in a small package.

  • great synth

    D......:)

  • no

    this is the pure sound

  • I've owned TWO Pro-One's. I SO much miss all the knobs that I loved to manipulate. Modern DJ's have got a HELL of long way to go before they can catch up with synth players. After all, they wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for people like SYNTHETAMINE so they can play with it.

  • The Drums are from a 707!

  • I had one of these years ago, but could never get 2 of the oscillators to tune properly - even after replacing VCO chips (you know, the ones that cost a fortune these days). Finally traded it off for a CZ1, which had velocity, after-touch, and oscillators that stayed in tune. Still miss it though...

  • the drums are not from the prophet 600

  • Sounds Little Like PoiZone From FruityLoopsStudio

But 1:50 is the most epic sound ive ever heard;)

  • Geile Karre alter!!!!

  • Great demo!!! Sold my P600 when I got a P5. Regret letting it go, filters open the sound is very similar. That P600 filter though...it's so unique, dark and aggressive. Synthesizers are kinda like girls, they each have unique features that you miss once they're gone.

  • There's something special in every woman, you first have to put it there yourself lol

  • You are sick.

Are you suggesting we cut the best parts off girls and make the perfect female/synth?

  • i am

  • So true so true...So I never get rid of anything anymore.

    Cheers

  • @endlesspresident That's why you don't let them go. You keep them close and get new models. And don't let old models find out because they get jelous.

  • @endlesspresident i'm stuck between a P5 REV2 or the above 600. Any thoughts since you've owned both?

  • @TheDLovas If you're trying to decide between those two, I honestly would go for a Dave Smith Prophet 08 which is more similar to a Prophet 600 in terms of sound (in my opinion anyway). The Prophet 08 can also give you those nice Prophet strings and that wild Talking Heads Brass type stuff. But if you really want to go old school I would go with the P5 over the 600. It's just a more classic and better sounding synth all around.

  • @endlesspresident

    nicely said.. :)

fantastic demo. yeah 3372 in P600 sounds unlike anywhere else. Xpander has the same filter chip, and uses all its possible modes , however, it cannot get anywhere near this kind of bite and agressiveness. just not voiced that way.

im always toying with the idea, if its possible to mod the 3372 in P600 to do 12dB operation. and have that on a switch... that be something. that would make it a mini OBXA.. its close to its sound as it is.

  • very good if u want silence and too look like a museum staff member ;)

  • Love the angry cloud at the beginning.

  • Pads and leads is what this baby excels in.

  • good synth, but much slower envelopes than the prophet 5

  • I love to "tweek" the knobs as I play....

  • slow envelopes

  • EXTRA LE SON

  • I want it!!!!!!!

  • sounds crazy..which is a good thing

  • plox

  • How can I synchronize via midi my synth with a drum machine? I would like to do it with a Virus Polar and the drum loops in Kaoss Pad.

  • Nice, aber der Pro One klingt dicker oder ?

  • Auf jeden Fall!

  • This synth sounds incredibly good. I'd love something analog to go with my 303.

  • Its a happy song

  • lol! I love this sound

    Cute clouds with lightening!

  • thank you :)

  • On Fruityloops is that synth.

    Pro 53

  • Wow, typing "&fmt=18" was so much more fun and engaging than just clicking "HD", you know? Like just clicking HD is such a lazy way to obtain the exact same result!

  • Well considering the video doesn't have an "HD" button in it, I'd have to say the "&fmt=18" approach was somewhat more useful. :-P

  • Nice demo!

I'm selling one of these on Ebay soon. Would you mind if i linked this to the sale?

    John

  • whats the best way to control the filter in in your opinion?

  • cv gate sequencer

  • Awesome. Is this in unison mode?

  • yes

    thanks

  • any suggestions on a good synth in a range from anywhere from 200-300 dollars?

  • Buy a Nintendo DS and get Korg's DS-10.....it's a music writing software that has pretty much a Korg MS-10 fully emulated....uh other then that I think you'd need to go a little higher if you want a synth....uh I hear great things about the Korg microsynth, it's not analog, but it's pretty damn cool, I just don't like the keys on it.

  • yea i recently changed my price range because i can not only cover it with birthday money but wtih work money so now im in the market for anything from 1000 dollars to a lil over =] i want a good one!

  • Damn, that will definitely get you you something nice, I must say the DS-10 isn't perfect, but it's a damn ncie toy/software, so you should look into it. Uh my first and only synth so far is a Moog Little Phatty that I got off eBay for under 1k and you can find them on it for around 700-900 depending on what model you want. Uh might not be for you, but it's a nice mix between classic analog sounds with a modern digital interface, but it is monophonic. Anyhow, good luck looking.

  • I'd go with a juno-60 or a korg polysix. They're both really easy to use for first time synth users and they aren't too expensive.

  • In that price range you could get a nice Virtual Analogue 2nd hand.

I picked up a Novation KS4 for 150 (euros) , its not the warmest sounding but has lots of polyphony and modulation capablities.

  • Comment removed

  • Neither of those are modular! What are you on about?

  • THOSE ARENT MODULARS NΩΩBY

  • Yeh, I had to find that out for myself. It attempts to mimic a modular synth. Still, Not bad for the money. Let me know if you wana buy me a Synthe 100 or a Yamaha CS-80 for REAL modular power!

  • Those are not modular synths, in any sense.

  • At that price range, a MIDI controller and some software synths might be your best bet- although you can get older digital synths like the Yamaha DX7 for that price. Don't buy the DS-10 like that guy said, it's rather hard to use.

  • mach mal ein video mit oldschool prophet leads also so horn sounds oder so .. und bisl noise rein mischen usw. ... ich steh da voll drauf

  • Must Have.

  • fat sounding

  • I had one of these, but sold it when I saw how my prophet-5 blew it out the water.

    MR. FUNK

  • BEAST

  • Wicked sounds for an electro track.

  • nice sound

  • i used to own one of these but sold it to a tejano musician whose very famous.

  • How did you sync that with a drum machine, I thought you couldn't do that with the P600 sequencer?

  • Read description "The first synth with midi!"

  • TR-707 Clock Out ---> MFB Step sequencer Clock IN ---> MFB Midi Out ---> P600 Midi In

  • i have the model 615. i need the power supply. its like a midi hook up. WHERE CAN I FIND THE POWER SUPPLY?

  • That was quite good man, do you ever blow the speakers?

  • Many years ago I went to a studioto record a demo and the bassist called in sick. After failing to get a semi-respectable bass sound on the beloved Polysix, the engineer suggested the Prophet 600. Needless to say, the bass came out pretty good on the demo. People came up to me and asked if someone played a 5-string bass on it. I just said that I played the bass.

  • this thing rocks!

  • this thing synthesizes

  • the flames :D great video!!

  • thanks

  • love it

  • THIS IS A GREAT DEMO, but the p600 is an absolute nightmare to use in a set up over midi. Theyre also howlingly bad for reliability. If you have a good one, then youre very lucky.

There's some pretty audible stepping on the filter sometimes too.

  • thx

  • VCO reminds me of tetris shpere music very nice XD . my good man very nice.

  • thanks :)

  • awesome are these hard to find

  • hey, im trying to go for that of montreal kind of sound and i looked a tboth of your demos and they were very good, what would you reccomend for that type of style, this or the moog prodigy? Also which one would you say is more versatile?

  • The P-600 is polyphonic and the Moog Prodigy monophonic. Both synths are very good but the typical moog basses can only the moog :)

  • im one of the few that thinks the P600 sounds better than the Prophet 5...BTW why did we skip a beat at 6:09?

  • Great!(Sehr Gut!)I Have a Prophet 600 Myself+a Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 That i have restored.Also with MIDI

  • thanks :)

  • cool... I really love the sound of that old synthesizers... the analog synths sound realy GREAT!!!... ah.. a note... that wasn't the first that has midi... the prophet 5 was the first synthesizer that brough Poliphony an Patch Memory... just for the record :D...

    cya

  • nope...the Prophet 600 was first commercially available with MIDI...do the research

  • my bad... i was talkin bout the prophet 5... tought that prophet 600 was a revision or something...

    cya

  • Hello , I've posted the video on switchedonsynthesizer.blogspot. com

  • thx a lot

  • omg I want one OMG i WANT A SYNTHESIZER dang this is my type of music =]

  • I dig the flames! Very appropriately timed!

  • how? what needs to be done on the prophet to sync the arp to on external clock?

    thanks for the input!

  • SPEED POTI= -5

Drummachine Trigger Out ---> Footcontrol In

  • sorry to bug you again... i have a TR-505, does not have trigger out. would tape out do the same thing?

    thanks

  • tape out goes not

  • drooooools

  • I've had mine for 2 years now... absolutely brilliant sounding synth. But, i'm having trouble syncing the MIDI to a drum machine... can anyone help? I think I've followed the instructions correctly, just doesn't work. Perhaps it's stuffed.

  • My TR-707 drum machine give the Midi clock signal to my hardware sequencer (MFB Step 64) and the sequencer triggered the P-600. That must go.

  • is it possible to control the arpeggiator tempo from an external source (drum machine)?

  • Use the internal clock on the drum machine and allow the 600 to be the slave.

  • Fat sound & synth, awesome playing skills as well. YO BMX

  • thank you :)

  • Bought one of these after selling my Prophet 5. Smaller, lighter, more dependable, but could never get the sound I got with the '5'.

  • Only the name "Prophet" is similar but the sound is very different to the Prophet 5. I think bass sound can make the P600 a little bit better.

  • Instantly subscribed after hearing this :D

  • thx a lot :)

  • great!!!

  • thx a lot :)

  • A great demonstration with a sense of humor. Thanks for posting.

  • thank you :)

  • sooo sick.

  • yes!

  • i need one!!!

    so fucking expensive!

  • its that green lead that always make it sound so coooool, is this a drum machine thats triggering, i think so.

    thanks ..brill

  • thanks a lot my friend :)

  • phat as always =D

  • thank you :)

  • sweet sounds... nice =)

  • thx a lot

  • this sounds real nice! i love the effects too!

  • thank you for watching and your comment :)

  • Thanks as always. I had an opportunity to purchase a Prophet-600 at a very reasonable price not long ago, but passed on it due to it's not being a "true Prophet" because of the oscillators. I thought, "If I'm going to have a classic SCI synth, I want a Pro-1 or one of the original Prophets." But you demonsrate that the 600 does have it's merits as a classic synth.

  • The Pro-One and the Prophet-5 are amazing synths but the P-600 is also good and very underrated. The sound is typical Sequential.

    thanks

  • very nice I think u will be marked in a hall of youtube fame. you provide all for us to watch. Thanks

  • thanks a lot :)

  • Danke Marco, ich denk ich werds mal angehen mit dem P600.

  • Versuchs einfach mal... ;-)

  • real 80's sound!

  • thank you :)

  • hey great as usual sound, think I am missing something again with these analoque synths.

so if you hook up a drum machine it triggers the synth to get these great rifts.

    can you reply and confirm.

    thanks

    colin

  • thanks colin

the drummachine is triggered (w. Midi Clock) the MFB Step64 step sequencer and the step sequencer is sequenced (Midi) the Prophet-600

  • that's a nice sounding synth Marko and I love the graphics! :)

  • thanks my friend :)
