  • Yoooou this trucks in fire!

  • this is amazing. I've just been going through all my wheel bearings 'just in case' and now I see this!

  • @castirondude Yeah, lucky that wasn't my truck, I jack up the axles and check them before every trip.

  • @gm16v149 Do you check every axle or just the front?

You just check for looseness in the bearing?

  • @castirondude I check all the bearings, all 22 of them. Jack up the axles, spin the wheels and check for play, everytime I get home from a long trip.

  • @gm16v149 is it easy to own a land in that area

  • @khalid6591 Most of is national park or pastoral lease, so no, you cannot own land on the Nullarbor Plain.

  • @gm16v149 and feel for odd vibrations too

  • Great clip.

    Cheers

  • The only cool part of this video was the dingo.

  • ya need to get a couple of fat blokes to climb onto the front of that 143 and get the wheels back on the road!

  • Insurance paid it?

  • must have been a cowboy at the wheel of that truck ruttley ever seem to employ coboys for their trucks judging by the way they drive

  • gee mate your keen , throwing ya dolly under a burnout trailer, nice to see some vids

  • aw mate you would be spewing if that was your truck! or if you lost your truck with that little fire as well! 5/5!

  • Great footage

  • I admire the expertise of these drivers!!

  • I am glad, it wasnt your truck, take care.

Nice tow truck by the way. Classic Scania.

  • Brand new Western star, sounds like a factory defect in either assembly, or a bad bearing out of the box. That's a shame. Good to hear nobody got hurt, and it was a fleet truck. Ruttley's insurancewill cover it and the load, what they don't cover the company can write off it's taxes (well, that's how it works here in the US anyway).

  • I heard later it was a couple of years old but this was it's first run to the west. Wheel bearing problem, I check my wheel bearings every day with a infra-red temp. reader but you couldn't expect a company driver to do that.

  • why is it still being worked on/towed/hooked up etc. when it is still on fire?

  • Check out "more info"!

Basically, there is no water out there & no fire trucks. Middle of nowhere.

  • @gm16v149 there is more than one way to put out the fire........water and firetrucks are not the only way

  • So we've got no water, no fire truck, two extinguishers left for a dire emergency, the red dirt at the side of the road is like rock. The remanants of the fire had been burning for 30 hours, it was blocking the main east-west trans-continental highway (about 6 vehicles an hour!), they wanted to get the truck off the highway to a parking bay.....we did the best we could under the circumstances.

  • Really nice Scania Torpedo tow truck.

  • damb lucky you wernt in that truck that WAS on fire

  • nice to hear that Scania engine ticking over pullin that weight, no revs but loads of torque. If that was a nt of same hp it would have stalled i bet

  • can u explain to me why the truck burned down ? looks prety bad .. hope the driver wasnt hurt

  • There were two drivers but they got out quick and they were ok.

I heard it was a wheel bearing that caught fire.

  • hey chris, another excellent vid just like everything you post.

do you have a dolly pull setup on the front of your truck? just wondering as it sure would have been easier than going a few k's down the road looking in your mirrors.

  • Yeah I've got a dolly pully front and rear with the air fittings. We were only just going a few k's up the road and and I ended up towing him anyway.

  • thought you would have, pretty awesome setup you have. and at least you didnt end up using your mirrors for the move. did you tow him because he was having trouble steering with so much weight on the back of his? looked like he was having a hard time keeping her nose down.

  • That's it.........scania was doing a wheelie

  • haha yeah i seen that, kinda makes em hard to steer when the front wheels aint on the deck!

  • I meant dolly 'pull' not 'pully'

  • na yous no what really caused it was the Nullarbor yeti and if you dont belive this ask you local Abor

  • The SCANIA looks ace with them cast spoke wheels something not seen here in the UK.But think its the best end of that yank shite

  • That reminds me of an English truck driver I was talking to who was over here on a holiday. He said they never see American trucks in England and he always thought they were crap, but when he came to Australia and saw them working in real life, he said he changed his mind real quick !

  • Man, talk about a hot load, eh!

  • Nice Vid, I heard that the fire was caused by a warranty item, something to do with the insulation on the exhaust, yep and not many blokes check their hubs.

  • The insurance and recovery guy said wheel bearing, but you never know until they do an enquiry. All sorts of rumors fly around when these things happen, as we all know.

  • YOUR HAULIN FIre lol

  • was watching this vid over notice the wheels on your trk are datons those must be a pain to balance we have a few like that put,em on set the coffe can next to it start to spin balance them not a huge fan of that system have a good one

  • Was there a reason that you used your dolly?.

Wouldn't it been easier just to hook up onto the primemover?

. . .yet another great vid by the way

  • They were going to chain up the drawbar and tow everything to Nullarbor road house, but that wasn't going to work with the fire etc, so we left the KW attached to save stuffing around. In the end I towed him to a parking bay.

  • Some one didn't give his hubs a check when he/she last stopped.

  • I would reckon you're right, Sticks!

  • But they're paid to go not stop!

  • on ya cris yer a ledgend

  • that must be the worst mightmare for a driver to see your truck go up in flames completely. but good money for you Chris. and that shot of the dingo on the end, great vid... thanks

  • I check the wheel bearings every day with an infra-red temperature reader but about 20 years ago I had one catch fire, but luckily I put it out and only wrecked the bearing.

  • think i got to start checking out my bearings to... now i see the importance of it.... still learning....

  • great vid... bummer for the Rutleys bloke losin their stuff tho.

awesome dingo shot... interesting work place ya have mate!

  • best to keep your babies locked away with those hungry critters around

  • nice video chris like the 3408 background noise. i will have the 3412 peterbilt video within a week or two

  • look forward to it Al

  • I did rip off a mudflap but no other damage done. There was no danger. I came on the scene must have been 30 hours later. Earned $500 for a couple of hours work and I was just passing through. It saved them a lot of hassle by using my dolly.

  • $500 for a couple of hours??? You deserve it too!

  • how many tires you have to replace?that slag falling off the trl looks hot enough to ruin a set your a good man i wouldnt got our trk anywhere near it for life and limb sure nuttin elese though another great vid

  • Dang that sucks,

My dads been lucky, I cant remember what happened but my dads back trailer flipped on its side and caught fire and went ka-bang his dolly and back trailer went bye bye and yeah... my dad basically drove off as a semi :P

  • Came past a few days later, saw one of the trailers being trucked away and the other was still in the parking bay. No sign of the prime mover.

  • Maybe we need hot box detectors at the side of the road Rod. No, luckily this sort of thing is very rare.

  • Now that's a top video Chris, very interesting mate thanks...When you were showing the motor i was waiting to hear that guy from mythbusters say "well that's your problem right there" ...LOL..

  • I couldn't even tell what sort of engine it used to be, I'm only guessing it's a CAT. Take more than a bearing roll and a new turbo to fix it I'm guessing.

  • Yeah i don't think that's covered under "Cat Extra"...LMAO...

  • nice dingo also great video

  • The rangers don't like you to feed them but a lot of people don't take any notice. I once saw a dingo pinch a guy's hamburger at the Nullarbor road house, unwrap it and eat it just out of reach of him.

  • i see

  • How did that happen? Great video!

  • Check "more info".

They said a wheel bearing seized up, which would have got that hot it caught fire. Wheel bearing fires can be very hard to put out.

  • wow thats crazy that the front end came up on the tow truck

  • What a sight to see lol. Thanks for the upload :)
