  • i enjoy classic piano more than modern pop songs, i do! ps, i'm a teen, you think a teen got no right taste in music? you're wrong!

  • @Stolemyusename shut up faggot

  • @Stolemyusename good answer

  • @Stolemyusename you're slightly less of a fag then i initially presumed

  • @Stolemyusename i think what he means is its kind of cliche to say i'm young and listen to old music on youtube now... and theres nothing wrong with liking pop music :) its popular for a reason, but its great that you have a wide range in taste...

  • @Stolemyusename stop assuming people think what they dont. you say you're a teen? then act like one and be mature.

  • @pinkyxyz123 fuck off

  • everytime i hear this i think of old black and white footage of people and cars from like the 1900-1920

  • :O why do i love this?

  • so many song are based off of this like marios themes

  • @radicright please be quiet.

  • i wish a knew how to play piano

  • It's interesting that Scott Joplin played it with a bit of swing and slower than most people I hear playing it.

  • @mamoulian69 he always said that he never intended his pieces to be played fast. In general, he claimed ragtime should be played slow, but that's no fun :)

  • A melhor música deste gênio! Se bem que todas são muito boas! :D

  • waaoo Its so nice

  • Ones who voted 'dislike' are probably mad at Scott Joplin beacuse they simply can't learn how to play that song ;)

  • people who dislike have to learn this without sheet now

  • i alway's have to pee when i listen to this kind of music, and i realy don't know why

  • @eenDraak1 holy crap... i have to go pee now too...

  • @eenDraak1 Because the high notes sound like piss-drops plinking off the porcelain toilet.

  • I am getting goosebumps listening to this.

  • I remember how this song used to help me fall asleep when I was younger.

  • this is my great great uncle :)

  • @thtoreoblizzard omg lol

  • King of Ragtime

    Awesome

Doing a 19th century American History project on him. Its gonna be amazing :)

  • I think his version of playing is unmatchable.

    *tear*

  • this makes me think about super mario bros

  • I started playing this when I was eight years old and that was 1958. Joplin is king!

  • i want this on a neverending loop in my house...

  • BEST. SONG. EVER! YOU GOTTA LOVE IT!

  • I wish I could do the rolls. It just makes the rag so...fun :D

  • I may be alone in thinking this, but Scott Joplin was a true genious.

  • amazing that this is him actually playing i fell in love with his music when i got a cd of his that Joshua Rifkin played one of the best in my opinion such a unique style of music and get's my blood flowing

  • I've read about Maple Leaf Rag and thought it time I actualy listened to it. Certainly not disappointed - brilliant

  • The fist song to ever have jazz in it!

  • Ragtime... missing ring between classics music and modern music...

  • Can you smell it? Its the scent of class.

  • Yey!!!!!

  • this song is awsome

  • Page McConnell.

  • Dick figures sent me here.

  • I used to dance ballet to this!

  • this makes want to watch old cartoons

  • HE was GENIUS, and no Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Lady GaGa etc.!!!

  • So, I went and bought the sheet music for this, intending to learn how to play it. Well, I'll be darned, because when I played it was NOT what I was looking for. It was some arranged junk by a person I'd never heard of. :( I will not give up in my search for this music!!!

R.I.P Scott Joplin, the greatest Ragtime composer of ALL TIME!! <3

  • Person falling down stairs.

  • @Zegilgamesh I know right? it brings to mind america's funniest videos....

  • Jeg har Per Arntzen i musikk!

  • fake recording, there's no way the recording could have this sound for such age.

  • @poopingeneral Retard there are newer versions and people play this song now a days so of course there is sound like this and better

  • @poopingeneral It's not a sound recording per se... it's a roll for a player piano. It sounds like the piano playing in the actual recording is synthesized using a modern sampler based on a MIDI roll transcription.

  • @poopingeneral never heard of old player pianos?you have a roll who play the songs automaticly....so i dont think it an old recording but an old piano roll!!!!

  • learning how to play this in the actual piano is hard as fuck !!

  • my boyfriend played this for me ^_^ one of my favorite songs now

  • i play it all the time like my cat

  • i love itt tehehehhehe

  • @paradoxmo I agree entirely!

  • @TanyaManser Corresponded with a ragtime expert (Keeper1st on YouTube) and he says that the attribution to Joplin is controversial. However, it does seem that the oddest feature on the roll, the swing time, was most definitely added after QRS acquired the roll from Connorized. It's possible Joplin recorded the roll and then Connorized edited it for mistakes; it's also possible that he merely supervised the making of an arranged roll. In any case the original roll is played straight.

  • I'm not sure this piano roll is Joplin playing. AFAIK, he only made one piano roll of it near the end of his life, for Aeolian Uni-Record, and it's available at pianola.co.nz to listen to. It doesn't sound like this-- it's a much rougher recording that shows the state of his health at the time. Most importantly, he plays it in straight time-- Joplin would not have played it in swing time the way it's played by later artists.

Great recording though, which leads me to wonder: who made it?!?

  • I wish my hip hop head homies liked this shit!

  • i play this late at night when i make videos, and i feel sanity slowly seeping away from my mind

  • the second half of this song makes me wet. first half is great too obviously, but DAT SECOND HALF.

  • You expect me to believe that a recording this clean and pristine is from Scott Joplin?!?!? You Know he DIED in 1917!?!? He lived in obscurity most of his life! Hah!

  • @itsjakeydaman Ever heard of a piano roll?

  • @Yeknom0913 you'd think someone who knows the year scott joplin died would have heard of a piano roll, apparently not..

  • I know it's very stupid to say, but this makes me think of Cooking Mama. D:

  • sory is sad!!:)

  • sory I sad:(

  • I Mad!!

  • make it a JACK DANIELS HONEY!!

  • Best saloon/bar music of all time!!

  • I can't help but want to do Abby from NCIS's turkey trot dance when I listen to this! :p

  • I hope he got some recognition while he was alive... this is amazing!

  • @turnover7 He got quite a bit of recognition, but he couldn't sustain his success, and his life ended badly. He died alone, broke and insane, and was buried in an unmarked pauper's grave.

  • @FoxRunMan Sad :(

  • TOM AND JERRY FTW

  • My mind automatically thinks of silent films.

  • It makes me cry to realize that music like this and composers like this will A, never be the same, and B is fading away.

One of the greatest. Will always be a classic.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheProudPortugese1 your right........music has lost much of it charm......i highly doubt that there will ever be music that will be considered classic in this age.....

  • Such a funny juxtapose moment when the composition is playing while looking at his headstone at the end of video. haha

  • Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!

  • I dont know how but he was definiteli an asian !!!!

  • what year was this recorded?

    have a lovely day

  • @LittleMissMauer7 I'm sorry you say I'm a bitch but how hard is it to search 'Maple Leaf Rag Played by Scott Joplin' and then click the wikipedia page? You're just being plain lazy.

  • @LittleMissMauer7 I'd assume around 1904

  • Is this played by Scott Joplin? Well, I thougt, he was dead before music was recorded...

  • Just made me happy......

  • What many folks here don't realize, that recording is actually a digital recording. Piano rolls, along with the punch cards used in Jacquard looms, are the first forms of storing information in a digital form and have been around longer than anyone here.

    I think it's great!

  • 108 people don't have good taste in music
