  • shadoe was once a dj for progressive rock station KMET in los angeles. that's where i first heard of him. then i started seeing his federated commercials, and got to put a face with the voice. those ads were a stoners dream!!

  • oh my god! a vcr for $499! holy crap a projection tv for $1676! vhs tapes for $4.77 each?!

COME ON EVERYBODY LAUGH! HA! HHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for bringing these commercials back!

  • I wish I had moved here 20 years earlier so I could have been surprised by these Dada masterpieces when they ran.

  • Wow. I've often wondered whatever happened to Shadoe and have miss his crazy commercials..Lol I'm glad that he is still out there plugging away.

  • Cocaine is a helluva drug...

  • @bgarakani Nah! It is the ADHD man!!

  • These commercials warped my childhood mind.

  • One of the most brilliant ad campaigns of all time!

  • Oh my lord, I was just thinking about these commercials. So glad someone saved them after all these years.

    EVERYBODY LAUGH! HA HAAAAAAAAA!

  • EVERYBODY LAUGH!!!!

    AH, HA HA HA!!!!

  • Oftentimes these commercials were better than the television programs themselves.

  • HA! I use to watch these commercials when I lived in Southern Cal.

    Thanks for posting them.

  • Great compilation! I used to work there for many years!!! A great job and a great place to work.

  • Dude, Shadoe Stevens should've been invited to make a guest appearance on "Miami Vice"! Like, could you imagine him as a drug lord going toe to toe w/Crockett and Tubbs?

  • ahah he just came 2 my school 2 talk 2 us 2day and i had no idea of who he was so i decided 2 look him up lol

  • What? Nobody told me! Back in the day, I had my VCR on hair trigger alert to record these commercials!

  • OMG! I haven't seen one of these commercials since I was a kid!

  • Fred was a staple of California commercials. Along with Cal Worthington and Vin Scully going on about Farmer Johns.

  • Shadoe will forever be the King of the wacky commercial.

    5:25, hilarious!

  • I can remember going to Federated liquidation 20 years ago. Circut City put them out of buisness. Yesterday I came full circle with buying a computer at Circut City's liquidation. Best Buy put them out of business. In 20 years it will be Best Buy's turn. That's retail for you. come and go.

  • I must warn you too'z* Best-Buy may just be in league with the Wall-mart type business gluttons,

Wall-mart & Best Buys may just turn out to be immortal

    bastards! Just like Mc-Donalds,

    Toys R us, Macy's, Ross,

    the types that never die-out;

unless we go into deep depression again, that is.

    Americas wealth all hoarded

together secretly by & rich-powerful Tyrants.

America will go broke & there will be no more evolutions of shops, just Combined one mega-store."!

  • I haven't seen a Federated commercial with Shadoe Stevens in ages. I thought the commercials here in the Los Angeles County area were so wacky and I liked watching them. Last I seen of Shadoe was when he was an announcer on Hollywood Squares and then was in a tv series. Wonder what he is up to today? What ever happened to The Federated Stores? Thanks for putting these commercials on You Tube.

  • Shadoe is currently working as the announcer for "The Craig Ferguson Show" in Los Angeles. Glad you dig him, too!

  • So who was the pretty lady who played "Frieda Rated" in so many of these ads, and where is she now?

  • Both Cal Worthington and the Federated commercials where shown in Houston, Tx as well. Cal had a dealership there and Fred Rated had a store as well, I believe, I was very young (5 or 6) but I remember a lot of these commercials... It is very strange to watch them again after over 25 years, like old brain cells rising from the dead.

  • MY HERO!!!

  • WOW!!! What a madman!

  • thank goodness he wasnt doing cocaine back then...

  • So Shadoe Stevens was a puppet? I always thought so....B-)

  • $1397 for a 37 inch projection TV? That's about the same now!

  • Ah good times, I'm glad some people kept these around.

  • I remember buying an NES at the Federated near Olympic/Bundy back in 1986!

  • I used to see these in Arizona as well. Wow, a Fischer VCR (weighed about 50 pounds, BTW) for $499?? Jesus, you could buy an apartment for that kind of money back in 1986! Plus, Fischer was a shitty brand name.

  • Cocaine is a helluva drug.

  • haha so funny. hes my uncle

  • Fred and Freda Rated . Great Memories, Fun Commercials.

  • Fucking sureal....

  • Everybody laugh! Ha-HAAAAAA!

I just loved the inspired madness of Fred Rated when I was a kid. I'm glad these were saved.

"Enjoy it while you can, Fred... your days may be numbered." Federated's days were numbered, but Fred lives on!

  • worse than the Crazy Eddie ads

  • The good ol' days of Southern CA Local TV! Fred Rated joins Cal Worthington, Harland and Madeline of Dial Chevrolet, and Pete Ellis as TV icons!

  • It's so weird, Fred Rated and Cal Worthington were up in Northern California back in the 80's, I never knew they were in SoCal!

  • TRAXX!!!!

  • I love it!!! I've been trying to find these for years. Growing up in Pasadena, CA, this reminds me of watching Elvira, Super Chicken, and the Saturday film festival with Tom Hatten on the weekends. Now if only someone could find a Pup n' Taco commercial!

  • These commercials are probably what bankrupted them.

They had a ton of them, and all of them were hilarious...it was definitely a sad day when that chain died.

  • When The Santa Clause first came out I thought of that add

  • I have a bunch of these on tape too. I'll be uploading them. (So far I've only got one up.) Jeez, Mr. Vegas...I totally forgot about that.

  • Aw, man! I remember these Federated commercials. As a kid in Davis, CA, I thought these were the funniest commercials to ever air on TV (I still believe that.) The "Cal Worthington and his dog Spot" commercials were great, too.

  • BRILLIANT! Awww, Shadoe. Bless 'im. Now if someone can dig up an old Licorice Pizza commercial, I'll really flip out.

  • OMG! wasnt it leslie who was the voice in the comercials for licorice pizza?
