  • If I saw that shit on my end table I would freak the fuck out.

  • >>> from BENNY&JOON

  • Sam: You don't like raisins?

Joon: They used to be fat and juicy and now they're twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they're just humiliated grapes. I can't say I am a big supporter of the raisin council.

Sam: Did you see those, those raisins on TV? The ones that sing and dance and stuff?

    Joon: They scare me.

    Sam: Yeah me too

Joon: It's sick. The commercial people they make them sing and dance so people will eat them.

Sam: It's a shame about raisins.

  • Oh how i wanted to live in the 80's

  • HEY MR. POLLAND! ITS EMMA W. FROM SCIENCE!

  • Hahaha omg I just saw this rare footage of Michael Jackson in the 80s trying to imitate these raisins.. it was the funniest thing..

  • this....scared the crap outta me D:

  • when i was 3 years old i remember screaming my brains out when this commercial came on and my family would laugh at me and id run to the closet cause i thought the raisins were gonna come out the tv and get me LMFAO now im grown and dont understand why this commercial traumatized me so much LOL

  • 1986 must have been a scary time...

  • @ross817

1986 was a great time. Everything was better back then...*sigh*.

  • This is the scariest shit I've ever seen.

  • Cracked!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if Cracked.com sent you here!

  • This was the commercial that started it all. After this, the California Raisins became a household name. I was obsessed with them during their prime.

  • NOW THESE SUM RAISINS WITH ATTITUDE

  • Sounds grape!

  • @GiveMeLiberty3 bahahahahahahahahahaahahahaaahahahaha!

  • Raisins taste good. But they look like some bug larvae or something nasty.

  • this was the best cartoon we had this on vhs when i was little

  • I feel old lol

  • This is so fucking disturbing

  • @samsamba08 i guess yer right i dont remember this as a baby i think it was the micheal jackson 1

  • i was born in 85 and i remember commercials like this

  • @Chaos2ThaWorld1 - Bullsh*t. When this came out, you were one (1yo). Even if they were playing it in 1989 (which I doubt), you would've still been just a 3-year-old baby.

So called "80's kids" nostalgics make me laugh.

  • @samsamba08 I was born in 85 and I remember this too.

  • @samsamba08 There's nothing wrong with liking things before your time. I was born in '91 and I have a pretty sizable California Raisins collection, as well as a large amount of other food-related (McDonald's, Domino's, etc.) collections. However, there is something wrong with lying about remembering things before your time to look cool/fit in/whateverthehell.

  • @IsabellaZilla ok, but please remember that you are giving someone a hard time over personified raisins.

  • @tykemeawaywyou I'm not giving anyone a hard time. I was just pointing out that nobody is going to look down on somebody for not being alive when they came out. A fan is a fan, no matter when they were born. :)

  • @IsabellaZilla well, glad we settled that then.

  • Comment removed

  • still got the frige magnets holy shit!!!!

  • Ooohhhh bad memories. I remember when this commercial came on

  • I bet if I could rewrite this commercial with a bunch of mashmellows with twigs for arms and legs singing sufin' USA I bet people wouldn't think this shit is so God damn cute...!

  • Ahhh white people watching Nigger Raisins dance as entertainment! Classic White Supremacy at it's finest conditioning!

  • @fernandoiscrazy

Yeah cause the 1980s was a bastion of racial intolerance. Take it down a notch man. It was a big deal in its day.

  • shits epic!!!

  • This brings back so many memories of my childhood. Extreme de ja vu.

  • hi i looking for a commecial , for a game that was made by miltion bradley , it was made in the 90's it had a toy repilca toilet ,and it had like these poop like things called scuzzies ,and the object of the game was ,who ever flush the most down the toilet wins but ,it was banned could someone please tell me the name of this game ?

  • LMAO. That sounds awesome

  • it was true milton bradley did make that game but it was pulled off the toy store selves before it got a chance to get really popular im trying to find the name of the game

  • Looks like my comment didn't stick. Its called Big John. Simple Google search son.

  • thanks btw im a female im going to see if i can find it

  • wow

  • I loved them when I was a kid! I even had a hot pink California Raisins sweatsuit (my sister had a matching one in purple)

    Thanks for posting!

  • This had to be one of the most popular commercials of the 80's easily!

  • lmao wow i totally remember this!!!

  • always awsome would you like to leave a comment on my video

  • lol i saw the california raisins featured in some ice capades in connecticut in like '87 or '88 when i was a kid

  • What exactly was their appeal? And why the hell did they need their own christmas special? Fads are freakin' complex.

  • It was the 80's -- you just had to be there :P

  • I was there and still never understood the thing. Could be because I'm not all that fond of raisins? I'm sure that's the flaw....

  • Your logic is like asking why were the Smurfs, Care Bears, Alvin & the Chipmunks, or Muppet Babies popular. It's easy. Whenever you give a sense of individuality/personality to once inanimate objects or creatures that aren't suppose to behave like humans, there's a relatable quality the viewer connects with; each in his or her own way. You partner than with a few big Motown hits or a play on popular film franchises like Star Wars or Indiana Jones (like Muppet Babies did) & it's 80's goodness.

  • Cqsallie, another thing to remember is that the Raisins also ushered in the new era of Claymation in the 80's. Though Claymation wasn't particularly new (e.g. Clash of the Titans), Claymation characters singing & dancing with their own unique personalities was pretty much a novelty. Think of it in terms of the 3D animation craze that initially started with Toy Story in 1995. Nowadays, you can hardly find a kid flick that doesn't use the stuff.

  • Many people do, but I've never liked raisins and didn't like the ad much either. I found the personification of these hideous, wrinkled items quite gruesome. Here in the UK the raisins were marketed under the name Sun "Maid", with a maid picture on the box, resulting in pun overload. There's a comparative element to this ad too (which is frowned upon here). I find claymation grotesque and to cap it all, I'm not a Marvin Gaye fan. But the fact I remember it so well means it must be a good advert!

  • Raisins are marked under the name Sun Maid here in the U.S. too. I can't actully recall seen anything else so they must be by far the most common. I'll bet all of the far reaching corporations use the same product names in all nations. Coke, Nike, Pepsi, Disney, we all have different words but the name is always the same.

  • As if Marvin Gaye wasn't already crying in his grave.

  • '86? That commercial is as old as me!

  • I wasn't even born until '91... and I remember the raisins... that' awesome

  • I remember being scared to death of the California Raisins.

  • Have any of you guys seen "Meet The Raisins"?

  • it sucks that the only commercials they have now are for lawyers, auto insurance, and cars.

  • I don't bother with most of them, just skip past them with Tivo...

  • I don't think it was `86. More like `88. I remember it when it came out.

  • I got it from a VHS tape that had a NY Mets playoff game from 1986

  • Really?!? `86? Guess I just never saw it until 2 years later.

  • @mycommercials haha, owned.

  • @1984AP Maybe you saw it in 1988 but I saw it 1986 too.

  • @1984AP I know what u mean...I was born in 85 and I remember the ad too. I also had a figurine Raisin Person which I thought was the most awesome thing ever - But maybe we got that way after The US...Im not sure. LOL I just agree that I remember it being the late 80s more than 86...

  • @OlivioJean They played these commercials up into the 90's I have vhs recordings of the original TMNT cartoon with these commercials in them. I was born in 85 and this is really my only recollection of the song. every time I hear it, I think California Raisins...then again I did live in Cali for my formative years so it's to be expected. but even when The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest came out they were still airing a variation of this commercial.

  • i remember these commercials and i was only 3 years old at the time. 80's commercials always remind me of such great times.

  • Yeah I can't believe that's been 20+ years ago. You don't see many rasin commercials on TV anymore.

  • thats because raisins have a HEALTH BENEFIT to them! :D

  • i remember this like yesterday
