I find it amazing that it does not happen more often , we {the human race } have killed slaughtered maimed and abused whales for centuries , they have shown amazing restraint under the circumstances , I have been on dozens of whale watch boats in Maui and have been near them on my sailboat and kayak , they have always been friendly , but when you start trying to interact with them even if we are trying to help they might mistake that for hostility and will defend themselves , I love whales !

I hunted small antelope in southern Africa a while back and in the hunting zones, if you get within 500 yards of animals, they scattered. In non-hunting areas like game reserves, you can get very close to the game. These whales are obviously terrified and I suspect it's in Japanese waters.
