  • jeez he looks black!

  • soooooo niiiiccceeeeee!!!!!

  • I'm trying to use a semi-western for a forehand I'm trying to modernize. The problem with that is I don't like the way it feels. I've hit my FH with an eastern/continental since I was in my early teens. The transition to my backhand one handed slice or topspin grip has been problematic: basically from the semi-w, the ball pops up when transitioning to the slice. So what do the pros do? Should I try to hit topspin with an eastern? That would be more comfortable for me, but I want heavy spin.

  • @darius3000

    hevy

  • Comment removed

  • @dmh091 It's ok. I'm taking lessons and I figured it out with my instructor. I hit topspin with an eastern and there's no issue in transitioning to the one handed BH.

  • LOL you can see the racquet wobble after the hit, simply amazing

  • winner!

  • Federer is so fast, even slow motion video cant slow him down. haha thumbs up if you agree...

  • AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH just because Fed's game looks kind of "classic" does not mean he uses an eastern grip guys. It's semi-western.

  • Go to Optimumtennis . net I break down Roger Federer's Forehand in easy steps!

  • tennis elbow

  • i love pausing it and then playing and then pausing it again..lol..it makes the video more fun and AWESOME!!! =D

  • easily clears the net

  • J apprends plus en le regardant qu avec beacoup d autres profs...

  • federer got power spin forehand and nadal extreme topspin that,s bound higher and foreward

  • looks like it might have been net idk tho

  • are you sure that this shot passed the net?

  • bellissimo

  • Beautiful shot.

  • The racquet does wobble an awful lot after contact.

  • god he keeps his head down for so long. in my school league i have to call in or out so im always looking up. damn i wish i could do that.

  • expressionless.

I believe federer might be a robot.

  • i'm convinced.

in every slow mo i have seen of him, his face has been catatonic throughout the entire stroke.

  • He is... the Terminator.

But he has one weakness... The Matador of Spain.

  • @snipedsniper18 It explains why he's too good.

  • he still lost

  • Semi-western grip !!!!!WTF is wrong with you??

  • federer gets 2000 revolutions per min which is only second to nadal. nadal uses an extreme western grip which give plenty of topspin (nadal creates 3000 per min) however federer uses a conservative eastern grip! amazing!

  • I know man It's amazing, I heard nadals highest topspin stroke was 5600 RPM!

  • thats a little high cos a tour player in the top 20 averges 1500 - 1800 rpm

  • lol 5600 wasn't his average just the highest hes hit... his average is what someone else said i'm feeling lazy today to find it.... but it averaged lower then the actual hit xD

  • yeah his average is 3200rpm

  • @anumayy what is RPM?

  • @martiniho12 Revolutions Per Minute =3

  • @RMarsenal-ya watever........ lol

  • @RMarsenal Nadal uses a semi-western not a full-western grip

  • @RMarsenal he does not use an extreme western grip...ur insane..

  • @RMarsenal its not extreme western -.-

  • @hersh94 so sorry i ment to say full western

  • @RMarsenal Nadal uses semi-western and Federer uses modified eastern.

  • @s900203 nadal full western

    federer semi western/eastern THE END!

  • @RMarsenal lol Nadal's peak is 5000 RPM or something, Federer's is 3000 RPM at peak. damn Federer is using an eastern grip too? thats crazy federer, especially since Nadal is using an extreme western?

  • @MysteriousStealthMan Actually, Federer uses a modified eastern (or extreme eastern) grip, which is directly between eastern and semi-western. Nadal doesn't use full western either, he uses more of a semi-western grip.

  • @counterculture91 oh didn't know. I thought Federer had a slight semi in his grip. but I always thought that Nadal had the full western. thanks for info.

  • @MysteriousStealthMan No problem! And technically Federer's forehand is slightly semi. His heel pad and index knuckle lie right on the line connecting the 3rd and 4th bevel. I've adopted this grip, and believe me, I can see why he uses it. Amazing versatility!

  • @counterculture91 hhaha I use semi western, but not as eastern as his. it gives you a good forehand for topspin while still having that backhand ready.

  • that's pretty kewl how is arm is moving like 3 times faster than the ball

  • love how he keeps his head down the whole time, terrific form

  • You can imagine how fast his opponent hit the ball, but on the slow mo vid it looks like its going slower than a snail, which gives the advantage of seeing how fast the racket head speed is compared to the ball.

  • this looks pretty flat

  • Yup. Federer uses an eastern forehand grip. You're not going to get much topspin from that.

  • His racket speed is ASTONISHING. The ball has virtually stopped moving when he swings to hit it.

  • is it better 2 tilt the racket a bit wen pleyin topspin or just start low and drive up ?

    PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!

  • How Roger does it? He dives and give a wrist action.

Actually, this wrist rotation is caused by the previously created tension to have the racket turn later. He swings higher, dives down and as goes up he turns his racket face for it to be on the right spot at impact. This and the rotational swing forces his wrist to turn, therefore imparting rotation.

It'll also depend on the court; hard court requires short swings and lesser spin, soft needs more action. Both because of the contact height.

  • thanks (Y) matye

  • GueorguiJoukov

you are the best tennis teacher on youtube.!!!!!!

  • yes in the middle of vertical and horizontal is how i learnt. and im a highly ranked player

  • When you are about to make a winner, it's better to tilt the racquet since you are hitting at a higher level than the net. If you are back, starting low and then up. This is because you lift the ball to guarantee that it will pass the net.

  • you can do what u said that u start lower and drive fast up. Or if your swing isnt like it ( that u allways start with ur racket low ) . The best way to do it to start normally and u hit the ball with a half circle: u start from the middle and just ur about to hit the ball u take it from the middle down and up when ur gona hit the ball...if you look at slowmotion topspin hits youll see they do the same

  • Depends on what you want. If you tilt the racket like federer does the ball won't be too high over the net so more chance for error but it will have high speed and little bouncing. If you start low and drive up, like nadal does, it will go over the net with enough room to avoid and unforced error and when bounciong it will gain altitude. Again it depends on what you want

  • wow, this is definitely a mystery. Perhaps one that we will never figure out.

  • ahaha, look at the racket flex on/after contact! amazing!

  • wheever i hit topspin i feel like the ball stays on the strings longer

  • what is position grip of him...

  • That's a topic for debate. Some say traditional eastern, some say extreme eastern, some say semi western. Having seen him warm up, I think he uses the extreme eastern and semi western grips interchangeably, but in matches, I think he uses the extreme eastern grip. Hope I'm not confusing you.

  • thnx for explanation...;D

  • So thats why those camera's were watching me, I look good.

  • What is that supposed to meen? so wrong, but so elegant..

    o.O

  • Perhaps because he's leaning backward. It's not so wrong, but it's not perfect as he's not perfectly stable.

Or is it that an other amateur tried to enlight ourselves of his wisdom.LOL

  • *enlight us

  • enlighten*

  • so wrong, but so elegent

  • fuck that midget spic

  • nadal is 6'2 and federer is 6'1 LOLZ

  • Actually Federer is taller

  • How do u know

  • if you watch the actual match on tv and they tell you their stats, it says Federer is 186cm and Nadal is 185cm, and you can google it

  • he shouldnt be leaning back

  • he's federer, so its ok for him, and only him

  • no its not

  • your right

  • well, in this shot it looks like he isnt in the best position possible to hit a forehand, meaning hes not at baseline so he cant get over the ball. hes leaning back because hes closer to the net, you can also tell that hes closer to the net because he finishes his follow through lower/closer to his check rather than over his shoulder.

  • "...you can also tell that hes closer to the net because he finishes his follow through lower/closer to his check [chest] rather than over his shoulder."

This is not true. Almost all of his finishes are around his chest. Rarely you'll see him finish over his shoulder or head like Nadal does, but that's only in certain circumstances.

  • Well in this particular shot he is definitely closer to the net because there is not base line to be seen in this shot. If you see the side lines in the background they run way past him and the base line can't be seen.

  • Look how the racket ondulates. Crazy!

  • ondulates isnt a word

  • lol

bad racquet with mass virbration is why

  • yeah man, the racket waves/ondulates/vibes.

But one thing I noticed is that only the racket absorbs all the hit, his body and his wrist don't yield a milimeter.

That's a good thing on a racquet, if it would have been a stiff wooden one, then I'm sure he'd shake a bit.

  • so exactly what bebble of the racket is on the palm with the eastern grip

  • he holds a hybrid grip but when he makes contact with the ball he tilts the racquet face and makes a windshield wiper because as all pros he has that arm strength

  • i know for fact he holds an eastern backhand which can generate topspin. his forehand is more on the western side you can tell by the way his wrist bends coming into the ball but im pretty sure he hits semi western and easter. he isn't an agressive spin player thats why i think its difficult for him to beat nadal

  • Great vid!

  • im just learning this and its really working

  • that ball is spining PRIIIIIITY FAST O.o

  • if I could do that i'd be doin well

  • Guys, look, the power is coming from the weight transfer from his right leg to his left. He "loads" on his right foot. He "explodes" briefly off the ground. And he lands on his left foot. His power comes from a kinetic chain that starts with the legs.

  • I think most of his power is coming from his rotation, not weight transfer.. that's why he can generate so much pace even when his weight's kinda going backward

  • its combo. sometimes weight transfer. and modern forehand rotation. according to his interview

  • I would say most of the power on this shot is not generated by weight transfer but rather by upper body rotation. Obviously, in a competitive match it is impossible to always be in the perfect stance when executing forehand but RF handled it well :)

  • wow, im amazed of the position and the face of the racket at contact point

  • its easy. its all about the timing.

  • why?

  • he looks like nadal here

  • yah he was hitting off his back foot

  • Perfect!!

  • does someone know wich federer uses

  • grip? from here it looks like eastern i may be wrong

  • Could be semi-western.

  • i thought he was famous for using eastern?

but as i noe, eastern isn't for top spins?

  • dude didnt u hear me i said

grip? from here it looks like eastern i may be wrong

  • he uses a semi western but alot of people say he uses between a semi and eastern, eastern isnt known for topspin but easterns can produce topspin if needed

  • That's not heavy top spin. That's more of an open stance short swing forehand and a bit out of balance.

  • what good video quality, especially on slow mo! but anyway, this really helped my forehand. im gonna try and apply it to my game!!

  • I practiced with a videocamera and then compared my shots with federer and roddick. Nowadays my serve goes over 200 km/h so that's a really good idea. Good luck!

  • the fastest serve i saw in the US open it was 212 kph by Roddick i think!

  • Awsome, this is good stuff to refer to..

  • damn the frame acctually shakes!

  • @youraveragejoe47 with fearrrrrr! lol

  • that's pure talent right there

  • the deadliest thing, is that when hes in position for a forehand - you know you're dead. hands down

  • why is this guy such a beast.. i mean seriously... i wish i could be on he same court as him...anyone selling tikets to the french open?

  • balaise le "rodge" il arrive a traverser la balle alors qu'il est en arriere sur ses appuis comme quoi ce mec a vraiment un don pour le tennis (contrairement a moi (sgnif) simple petit 15/3)

  • thats how fast federers rackethead speed is faster than the ball lol

  • damn, the racket flex is awesome! but does the ball seem like it hit the net first or something? the racket speed was way fast compared to the ball.

  • when u see clips of him at normal speed his arm and racket speed is the real deal. jeez, looks really wicked quick~

  • he has the best wrist action on forehands ever. lets the racquet do the work not his arm.

  • wat do you mean wrist action? is that how he generates so much racket head speed?

  • that was amazing

  • best shot in tennis history

  • It is not the best shot in tennis history.Federer has much more and better forehands, you cannot even imagine it.

  • O my gosh that is nasty!

  • The ball is going "Shit shit shit!!"

  • hahahahahaha

  • Gyarisan is right. The backswing of Federer is very special which let him generate so much power without any effort.

  • hey shut up gyari san. u dont know how to backswing? then get a life

  • lol?

  • it's okay. All he is doing is putting the ball back in with maximum speed while setting his foot for the next shot.

  • this is a shit video of the federer forehand, doesn't even know the backswing.

  • Loser

  • I meant this is a horrible video example of a federer forehand as it doesn't show the backswing (possibly the most important part of modern tennis game.). So don't get all offensive for nothing if you don't understand the game of tennis in depth

  • You dont know anything about it.The video is perfect, it shows how federer stands in the right position to hit the forehand,it shows how his weight is on the right foot, how he turns his shoulders at the and, it shows the

    backswing,etc.

  • Perfect movement, perfect body positioning, perfect follow-through, perfect counter-balance..there's no other words... everything's just PERFECT..

  • I agree with leonardomlgomes everything about this forehand is just PERFECT!

  • very nice =D

  • oh god. ORGASM

  • perfect form...

  • omg... his termination is perfect =)

  • See the racket wobble!

  • lol that was sexy

  • haha

  • The Best Player Ever For Me.

  • yeah man,hes the best:)

  • Awesome! I love this video, the EXTREME slow morion is awesome!

  • nice
