A protest is a protest. This looked more like a riot. Police were giving these protestors a full street to protest and get their message across, until they decided to frantically run down, downtown toronto and block a high way. Riot police, tear gas, firehoses, I'd like to see all of the above brought out next time a stunt like this happens. My parents are immigrants and I say this with full respect to them. You can't take a city hostage over an issue that doesn't directly effect them.

If everyone thought like the tamils there will be a riot everyday in the major highways. Good thing most of us, who may also have causes we believe in, are law abiding citizens.
For example, breast cancers kills 100s of 1000s. But highways are close down with ample time for run for cures to raise money. Tamils could have requested something similar. That would be respected. What Tamils here have done is just CRIMINAL, plain and simple.

As a south asian myself and having lived there and now in toronto this protests are getting out of hand. you guys can't hold a city hostage. In these hard economic times ppl are trying to keep their job and its very hard for them to get to work bcuz of this. Also it is a strain on health services for ambulances to pass through.

I agree this probably wasn't the best way to deal with the protest - in terms of blocking the highway. However, it was the best publicized motive to get the message underlined, that there are several Tamils in Sri Lanka that are victims of a mass systematic killing. 3,000 killings in 1 day, which includes mothers, fathers, and innocent children is simply unacceptable.
If anyone here can't risk a day of sitting in traffic for this, u need to re-check your humanitarian conscience & open it.

A protest is a protest. This looked more like a riot. Police were giving these protestors a full street to protest and get their message across, until they decided to frantically run down, downtown toronto and block a high way. Riot police, tear gas, firehoses, I'd like to see all of the above brought out next time a stunt like this happens. My parents are immigrants and I say this with full respect to them. You can't take a city hostage over an issue that doesn't directly effect them.
