  • For my 7th birthday in Wadesboro, NC, my mom bought a bunch of bandanas, filled them with popcorn and candy, tied them on the end of yardsticks, and about 10 of my friends and I marched like military hobos the 3-4 blocks to the movie theater that Saturday morning to see a triple-feature western and featuring Fred Kirby up on stage singing between the films. When he sang Big Rock Candy Mountain, I was in heaven.

  • What ever happened to Buffalo Ranch? I remember the piano playing chicken almost like I was there yesterday. I wish I could have been, because now my little boy would love it.

  • I miss Mr. Fred Kirby and his show as well. I grew up watching him too. I had the wonderful pleasure of seeing and speaking to him many times throughout my childhood as well as one special time as an adult with my own child! As a child, I would see him at Tweetsie Railroad along with CALICO. I'd see & talk to him at Shoney's Big Boy Restaurant! AND in 1988, He came into my work and I was so star struck lol. He autographed a photo card for me and even SANG to me. I will never forget it.
