...what? I don't get it, why would Erik want a giant mechanical gorilla to play the pipe organ? He'd want to be the only one to play the pipe organ, not a giant mechanical gorilla. And for that matter, why would Erik want to open a freak show on Coney Island and why would he think that would be a good idea to win Christine back? At the end of Leroux's novel, he claims he can die a happy man (& presumably dies alone) because of Christine's kiss, and sets her free so she can be happy so... why?
P.S The Gustav that was playing the role when I sow it was sooo little comparing to this one. That one looked like he was 5 years old. But I cant recall his name tho. And I also sow Andrew L. Weber passing by that night! That was awesome!
This is my fav song from the soundtrack and deff its my fav scene from the show!!! Plsss isnt there the whole footage from this clip? Only 18 secs? Its like giving us a candy then taking it back without even feeling the taste! This is soooo mean!!!!
just got back from seeing it and... wow! Nothing like Phantom 1 - this has far much more depth and to be honest we follow Meg shed loads more than anyone would think! This is 3D writing at its best. We came away knowing so much more of the original characters than we could ever have learnt from Phantom 1! We travelled from North West UK to watch and the Adelphi theatre is the place to watch it! Special effects (garphics etc) amazing - the works! I'm going to bed humming the works!
this is epic. Do you have the whole song on video? I can't wait untill this comes to broadway. I'm definitally going to see it even if some of it is stupid.
Is it kinda bad that my former band teacher has a gorilla looking thing basically just like this? It just has more silver and has claws. It really freaks me out.
Lol, poor Erik's just trying to work, and Gustave is messing with his stuff. He's like "No kid, don't touch that!" He turns around, and two seconds later he's doing it again. xD
I have no doubt that the longest running show on Broadway will be remembered as long as people remember musicals. Whether the sequel will be remembered as anything more than a foot note will be decided in the next couple of years.
@simzproductionz I agree and I think it betrays the original character who's late middle aged, grotesque, ptitiful and scrawny. Whoever plays him must have a good voice, like the stage Phantoms, not some rocker. With special effects, the de-masking should be shocking. It would be a wonderful challenge to any good actor/singer which elimates Mr. Butler.
He's not much like the Phantom of the Opera. @phantomopera45 He's showing his lack of fear and curiosity for what's "underneath" the creepy contraption, suggesting to the Phantom they have in common a fascination for oddities and suggesting how much they are alike which later leads the Phantom to conclude he's his son. I don't like the erotic tone to the piece though.
@audiesgirl that true at first, but the song is about whats underneath the Phantom's Mask because at the end, he pulls off his mask, and Gustave screams..
Oh God...Leroux has got to be turning in his grave right now. Phantom of the Opera has one of the most beautiful and most powerful endings. Why disturb a masterpiece?
LOVE IT! At last they're having PHUN with the PHANTOM! The story walks a fine line between drama and comedy, is overdue for serious parody. I love the original and have seen/read all the film and book treatments and can't wait to see this. Rock on, Erik and the Monkey!
