  • piano player and roy are great..they play well off each other

  • Roy's a monster!

  • sorry piano players name?

  • @theflammes1 marc cary

  • whos the piano you guys know his name?

  • I think it's interesting that the piano player's solo itself doesn't cut through the way his accompaniment did...pretty tasteless...he's super talented, but really now...

  • lol i think at 0:17 roy is yelling at the piano player to calm down. the guy is way too busy!

  • I know the pianoman is takin a lot of heat, but seriously man... what were you thinking at 7:27, just ruin the solemn moment... I'm surprised he didn't jump back in and roar a solo over the squad from 7:46 to the end... but man he is one hell of a player though

  • Somebody give that piano player a B3. That stuff doesn't work on an acoustic piano.

  • If you would cut one of the piano player's hand, he would still be TOO BUSY.

  • Hey boricuajazz are a trumpet player too???

  • Piano's killin me...

  • I know the woman named Raquel that this was written for.

  • you mean Rockelle?

  • No the way she spells her name is Raquel. She went to the Berkley school of music with him and dated him.

  • This wasn't written by Roy. It was written by Rodney Whitaker (the bassist in this vid) for his daughter, Rockelle.

  • Ok well thats a great coincidence cause Roy has a sista by that same name (different spelling) that hes written for also. Thanks for tha info.

  • Boris ... couldn't agree more ... here Roy is playing more cool and trying to lay back and set something up ... beautiful really ... and the pianist doesn't hear it and just plays all over it

  • le trompetiste est reconnu desormais ,l'homme l'est t'il?say yeah

  • man that piano looks nice...if only it were in tune.

    killin performance nonetheless.

  • What song was this?

  • i love the groove at 5:14

  • that piano player shat all over roy's solo which was a shame, roy's a hero!

  • MARK CAREY on piano. EXCELLENT ...memories of MCCOY TYNER ...who played with JOOHN COLTRANE

  • That's not Marc!

  • Roy Hargrove will be a legend.Hargrove has the most talent of any trumpet player in our solar system.Everyone whos heard Roy knows that hes 1 in a googleplex.

  • I agree that Roy is an excellent trumpet player, but to say that he is #1; I don't think so. But that is my opinion, and I respect yours.

  • @boricuajazzz8 Hey are you a trumpet player also?

  • @boricuajazzz8 sO WHO IS # 1 TO YOU...

  • I love Roy, but he still hasn't had that breakout record that defines him and his career. Its hard--dont get me wrong. A lot of it has to do with timing and finding the right collaborators and...who knows what all. They say Miles had no idea Kind of Blue was gonna be anything more than just another record, so that tells you right there that you can't manufacture transcendence. Roy's on right track. His accomplishments are already major.

  • Is it possible to have a breakout record these days?

  • Think I see what you're getting at. Too true.

  • @LodoGrdzak earfood!!!! Roy and Gerald clayton take it to another level. one most ppl cant even begin to understand.

  • Damn who is that on keys? He is a beast. Why they followed him with the cheesy soprano is beyond me.

  • Mark Cary

  • that was me who replied my bad Maph11 i signed off once i realized

  • he's WAY to busy.... killing roy during the solo.

  • I think he is just a little too up in the mix or Roy is too low.

  • this was written by the bass player Rodney Whitaker for his a daughter Rockelle an up an coming jazz vocalist, be on the lookout for her!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • @boricuajazzz8 Are you a Trumpet Player???

  • I felt so sorry for Roy trying to play over that piano players busy backing

  • The man's a monster...

  • There's a great recording him doing this song with Dave Drubeck. Man, Roy sets fire to every song he plays. Thanks for the posting such wonderful vids

  • Thanks for the comment...

  • I love roy's sound on more conventional horns like this bach. i heard him just recently in april on a real vintage conn he picked up somewhere (not a vintage one). he sounded beautiful on it, it was one of the sweetest live trumpet sounds i ever heard. Yeah Roy!

  • Roy Hargrove has one of the most beautiful sounds of today's Jazz trumpeters. He's in the same category of Claudio Roditti, Terrence Blanchard, Chet Baker or Luis "Perico" Ortíz.

    Thanks for visiting my channel.

  • he actually plays on an inderbinden not a conn

  • I just played with him in April at a jam session at he Clark Terry Jazz Festival. He was playing on a Conn that night. He picked it up from a friend he said was a vintage trumpet collector...

  • This song is on Roy's album Kindred Souls, called For Rockelle... his solo has some really similar parts.

  • Thanks for the info...

  • wow in 1993 he was 24. he is a freak of trumpet nature

  • Thanks for the comment.
