Forgotten all about Landscape, used to play this and Einstein a go go. Got here via 'love cats' by The Cure. Listening to a radio play and track was featured... Power of YouTube
Oh my gosh!!!! I remember this song from the 80's on the radio and it stuck in my head for years. Glad to hear this again and see the video that goes with it. I didn't know there was a video.
Whaaa! I love it that we live in an age where one can share such 80s (childhood, for me) tidbits! (Especially those that do not feature R.Stewart, R.Springfield, or "Video Killed the Radio Star.") I remember that old, creative MTV, too. Once upon a time, many different artists/acts could post on MTV; now, however, it is so dominated by non-talent top-40 "artists," that the really creative find no air time.
@wookie72 Na your not nuts, I was just thinking the same thing listening to it. I remember this song from my teens. I first heard it on a Yazoo tape I had in my teens. Woah it takes me waaaaay back.
Richard James Burgess invented the Simmons SDS-V drums, you know the hexagonal pad things...and then went on to produce people like Spandau Ballet, Living In A Box and Colonel Abrams
So cool to see this again! And there's no way the keyboard sounds on this were done with a Casio. This is from the classic era of analog synths, when instruments like the Oberheim OB-X and Prophet-5 ruled the roost.
@Kohntarkosz The guys in Landscape were the first users of the Fairlight CMI in the UK. They imported it from Australia and sold units to Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.
Yeah I understand that, but they didn't use it for EVERYTHING, did they? There's some pretty analog sounding synth sounds here, something even the Fairlight couldn't reproduce.
@Kohntarkosz I remember at the time Landscape were at the cutting edge of synth technology. Things like the yamaha wind synth were developed with big input from the band
@Kohntarkosz in this case it was a Yamaha CS80 and a modular Roland System 100-the same one that defined the Human League's sound. I think the Casio was the flute sound in Einstein a go go.
There was a video show from broomfeild, CO called "FMTV" we used to watch religiously every weekend. They used to show this video. The variety on that show blew MTV out of the water. That's how a brotha like me got exposed to so many types of music. Anyway, I always wanted to sample tat base-line. So dope!
Great I thought Id never hear this song ever again.....Now if somebody has posted Lucy and Ramona and Sunset Sam......and I Want To Be A Lifeguard.....I'll be super happy!
Synths, yes. Casios came a little later, this was still in the era of decent analogue synths like the ARP Odyssey and the Minimoog. I never realised that these guys had a Fairlight. I knew Kate Bush had one. I remember when they cost £5000 and that was a lot money, hate to think what they cost now (well, the equivalent). Good replacement for the Yam CS80 (John Foxx used these a lot before he went Oberheim).
If you can get hold of there album ( From the tea rooms of mars to the hell holes of Uranus) its on there but I dont know if it was ever put on CD, good luck.
Oh man I wasnt sure if this song actually existed or if it was a figment of my acid-fried mind when i heard it one time back in 1983 when i was like 16 and trippin hard that night!!! But I'm much better now. thanx for the flashback!
Wow, i can honestly imagine how you feel! I Had the same experience when i put on a cd on a flea market cause the cover looked familiar. At first nothing happend in the headphones, then i discovered a slow creeoy cresecendo..(it was an album named"Imperial College" by No Zen Orchestra, weird post 80s stuff)..and sudenly i realized i had heard this track on Acid..and i got the Flashback! Whopeee! I´m with you, Mate! :)
Thanks a bunch! I was just mentioning to a friend that I would love to have a better copy of this video...and yours is crystal clear!!!!! Wish I could watch it off my computer though...still great to see:)
Wow I used to listen to some weird music. No wonder my generation are so odd. Still sounds great though. Found one song from my youth and there they all are Kraftwork, Landscape wow!
WOW, if I had a radio announcer's voice and a microphone I would say "WHAT A GREAT SAVE". It is a miracle this was made in the first place. They did a great job with the video. I like the way the song plods along, perfect insomnia soundtrack.

The song is kinda boring, though, they should add more lyrics than "My name is Norman Bates, I'm just a normal guy".
