  • Theses guys were so ahead of their time the production is amazing.

  • Forgotten all about Landscape, used to play this and Einstein a go go. Got here via 'love cats' by The Cure. Listening to a radio play and track was featured... Power of YouTube

  • I remember this from when I was in primary school it scared the shit out off me,,still does,,lol...Great posting makes you tube worth while cheers

  • didnt eminem have a song back on a old demo with norman bates hotel being some illuminati shit?

  • I can't believe you have this! I loved this in the 80s and haven't seen it since...thanks!

  • Has a Gary Numan feel to it.

  • Oh lordy, I'd almost forgotten about this. Thanks for posting....wish i was 16 again.

  • This movie shouldve came out around august or october man...

  • So this song did exist and did not just exist in my mind! I guess that is a good thing.

  • itts a wonder someone hasnt remade this classic yet. there remaking every thing else

  • The lineup of instruments they used is listed at nationmaster slash encyclopedia, From-the-Tearooms-of-Mars...to-the-Hellholes-of-Uranus

  • That was one of the very first videoclips appearing on the brand new private TV's in Italy. Thank you so much, it brings me back to my youth :)

  • Oh my gosh!!!! I remember this song from the 80's on the radio and it stuck in my head for years. Glad to hear this again and see the video that goes with it. I didn't know there was a video.

  • Very cool...haven't seen this around for a loooong time!

  • One of the great synth breaks of the era 0.40. Totally epic.

  • Whaaa! I love it that we live in an age where one can share such 80s (childhood, for me) tidbits! (Especially those that do not feature R.Stewart, R.Springfield, or "Video Killed the Radio Star.") I remember that old, creative MTV, too. Once upon a time, many different artists/acts could post on MTV; now, however, it is so dominated by non-talent top-40 "artists," that the really creative find no air time.

    Thanks, postingoldtapes!

  • wow - the girl in the video really looks like Janet Leigh from Psycho

  • Wow, whatta flashback. Thanks!

  • Top quality!

  • @wookie72 Na your not nuts, I was just thinking the same thing listening to it. I remember this song from my teens. I first heard it on a Yazoo tape I had in my teens. Woah it takes me waaaaay back.

  • my name is Freddie West 'im just a normal guy

  • Sometimes it's fun to be more than just a little odd. Love it.

  • These guys had to be on drugs

  • awesome video

  • Richard James Burgess invented the Simmons SDS-V drums, you know the hexagonal pad things...and then went on to produce people like Spandau Ballet, Living In A Box and Colonel Abrams

  • Comment removed

  • LOL!!!!! this song is epic xD

  • Hell-Holes of Uranus(?) : )

  • This song is so good this video is better than the movie why can't I find this track on like an Amazon

  • Ta so much for posting. I really loved this, and the only recording I have is 40 years old and has some twat of a dj yaddering on during it.

  • Pamela Stephenson really pulls off a fantastic Janet Leigh!

  • This song used to creep me out.... it's kinda fun watching and hearing it again... but still a little creepy...

  • So cool to see this again! And there's no way the keyboard sounds on this were done with a Casio. This is from the classic era of analog synths, when instruments like the Oberheim OB-X and Prophet-5 ruled the roost.

  • @Kohntarkosz The guys in Landscape were the first users of the Fairlight CMI in the UK. They imported it from Australia and sold units to Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.

  • Yeah I understand that, but they didn't use it for EVERYTHING, did they? There's some pretty analog sounding synth sounds here, something even the Fairlight couldn't reproduce.

  • @Kohntarkosz I remember at the time Landscape were at the cutting edge of synth technology. Things like the yamaha wind synth were developed with big input from the band

  • @Kohntarkosz in this case it was a Yamaha CS80 and a modular Roland System 100-the same one that defined the Human League's sound. I think the Casio was the flute sound in Einstein a go go.

  • Landscape were too short lived! This is a brilliant interpretation of the Hitchcock classic!

  • remember this on nite tracks!!

  • wacky and wonderful

thanks for going to the effort to share!

  • OMG EXCELLENT! Thank you.

  • Should have had some Anthony Perkins in there. No Norman Bates without him.

    R.I.P Anthony

  • been a long time since I heard or saw this..thanks

  • My name is masterbates

  • This song's been in my head so long I'd forgotten where it even came from. Thanks!

  • I knew there was a video, but I never thought I would see it again. found this on a random hunt for the song. Thank you for posting it!

  • Good grief I didn't even know there was a video for this track. Thanks for the upload, a classic!

  • Excellent... I love it!

  • There was a video show from broomfeild, CO called "FMTV" we used to watch religiously every weekend. They used to show this video. The variety on that show blew MTV out of the water. That's how a brotha like me got exposed to so many types of music. Anyway, I always wanted to sample tat base-line. So dope!

  • Brilliant! I've had this song in my head for almost thirty years! Great to hear it again! :p

  • Great I thought Id never hear this song ever again.....Now if somebody has posted Lucy and Ramona and Sunset Sam......and I Want To Be A Lifeguard.....I'll be super happy!

  • The Mike Nesmith song is actually titled "Cruisin'" and it is up here.

  • among the top 10 of songs i never heard b4, until now through out this year :D :D!!!, Thanks for posting :D :D!!!

  • Love this song. It's got the scariest chord ever played on a pop single.

  • fun retro song. nice casting as well, the young woman in the video resembles janet leigh....my name is norman bates...

  • Synths, yes. Casios came a little later, this was still in the era of decent analogue synths like the ARP Odyssey and the Minimoog. I never realised that these guys had a Fairlight. I knew Kate Bush had one. I remember when they cost £5000 and that was a lot money, hate to think what they cost now (well, the equivalent). Good replacement for the Yam CS80 (John Foxx used these a lot before he went Oberheim).

  • Thanks for this video, nice to hear some of the old stuff again.

  • If you can get hold of there album ( From the tea rooms of mars to the hell holes of Uranus) its on there but I dont know if it was ever put on CD, good luck.

  • yes!!!!! i've been trying to track this down for years now! thank you so much!

  • my name is norman bates....i'm just a normal guy........ Classic. a real gem in music!

  • another weird song by these guys

  • Man, I haven't seen this video in AGES! Thanks for posting it!

  • ha! I love youtube! There's no way I would have been able to recall this odd song if it were up to MTV or record stores.

  • this was back when it was common for artists and singers to use their casio's for background music.

  • Actually, Landscape were among the first purchasers of the Fairlight CMI. Bit of a difference.

  • Wow! Thank you I never thot I'd hear this song again! I love this song I love the video

  • Seeing Psycho 2 on TV this week jarred this one loose from my memory. And I knew just where to find it. Thanks!

  • haha same here....I just saw Psycho and it made me think of this song...... what a dumb ass song lol

  • I don't recall hearing/seeing the vid before, lol! Thanks!

  • yeah this is out there with the obscure crowd.ive just been listening to the album.still sounds great.thanks for posting.

  • hahahahaha 4 god knows wot reason this song came into my head last nite.

  • Wow, i can honestly imagine how you feel! I Had the same experience when i put on a cd on a flea market cause the cover looked familiar. At first nothing happend in the headphones, then i discovered a slow creeoy cresecendo..(it was an album named"Imperial College" by No Zen Orchestra, weird post 80s stuff)..and sudenly i realized i had heard this track on Acid..and i got the Flashback! Whopeee! I´m with you, Mate! :)

  • Thanks a bunch! I was just mentioning to a friend that I would love to have a better copy of this video...and yours is crystal clear!!!!! Wish I could watch it off my computer though...still great to see:)

  • I think Landscape wanted to be German, but their vids are still definite period pieces.

    Keep on posting, respect :-)

  • Thank u so much for posting it !

That was one of the favorite videos of my youth :)

Actually, one of the very first videoclips appearing on the newborn italian commercial tv stations.

  • i use to love this song when i was kid

  • Wow I used to listen to some weird music. No wonder my generation are so odd. Still sounds great though. Found one song from my youth and there they all are Kraftwork, Landscape wow!

holy fukin fuck!your the man for posting this!

  • WOW, if I had a radio announcer's voice and a microphone I would say "WHAT A GREAT SAVE". It is a miracle this was made in the first place. They did a great job with the video. I like the way the song plods along, perfect insomnia soundtrack.

  • If I had the same beautiful girl in MY place, I would crack up! (REAL jam2maniac).Btw, I hope you've understood my message!...

  • huge thumbs up bro...that experience has happened to me so many times on youtube. :)

  • "ME TOO"!!!!!! I didn't know that this song was real. I remember it from the 80's but I didn't know it was a real song. I thought it was a commercial or something.

  • Holy crap! It has the old MTV caption on it, too! RCA Records and "Norman Bates" was all I could remember of it! Peace.

  • I think I heard this song all of twice when it was shown on MTV WAAAAAY back in the days. It stuck in my brain all of these years! Yo, that's some dope ish! Peace.

  • Life is wonderful. I found the obscure!!

  • Fantastic. Where do people find this stuff? Apart from on YouTube! Was it in the attic with Norman's mother?

  • I have shelves lined with old VHS tapes that I recorded in the heyday of eMpTyVee. Eventually, they'll fade, so before they do I (and others in the same situation) decided to share them with everyone. It's a fun hobby, and a rare one where people write to thank you every day.

  • Well That's Not the Bates Motel

The house and the motel should be sperated

  • Who cares & who cares if someone replies to this!

  • haha lmao i have a mate called andy bates, i typed in his name and look what came up haha!

  • this soooo great!!!!!! horror & early 80's videos.... thanx!

  • She really does look a lot like Janet Leigh.

  • thanks for posting... I remember this on MTV in the early days. :D

  • Thanx for the clip! This brings me back to the time of listening to their album "From the Tea-rooms of Mars .... to the Hell-holes of Uranus" and feeling really, really sci-fi space age funky and futuristic in rhyme with the minimalistic electro-beat .... and then suddenly thinking:

What the **** has that old movie-weirdo Norman Bates got to do with any of that cool futuristic, space age stuff?

    ;-)

  • You have to admit - they did predict the popular culture's obsession with serial killers.

  • This video used to scare the crap out of me when I was a little boy seeing it on MTV

  • Anyone have 'Lawn Chairs Are Everywhere' by My Daughter's Wedding??

  • I have the song but not the video unfortunately ! :-(

  • Incredible!!

No one remembers this that I have spoken to about it.

    Everybody thought I was CRAZY....lol

  • I remember it. I've got the 7 inch single.

  • people used to think I was crazy about a song called AEIOU sometimes Y by Ebn Ozn...it's just as 80s as this song. classic!

  • That one's up here as well. I have an Ebn Ozn video up here called "Bag Lady", a song that I liked more than ""AEIOU...Sometime Y".

  • genius!

  • Haha, real classic

  • I forgot about this weird song.,..thanx for the heads up!! :)

  • this video is wonderful!

  • New Romantics + Hitchcock= Unbelievably Good!

  • Ad infinitum, thanks for the 80's memories as pre-teen.

This one of the best right up there with Barnes & Barnes "FishHeads"!

    roly-poly...

  • Thank you PostingOldTapes! Like many of the other posts here, this brings back memories of being 13-14 hearing this song on mtv. Seems like 8 or 9 lifetimes have passed since then.

  • It's been a quarter of a century since I've seen this video. I'm getting too damn old.

  • Aah, the memories...

  • I like at the 1:16 mark how the camera zooms in on the bird and the music goes "chingchingchingchingchingching!" Pretty creepy stuff but a great song & video combination. Thanks for the post, postingoldtapes!

  • The band Covenant (synthpop band) did a cover of this song a few years back. Until now I didn't realize it was a cover. Heh.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! The memory of this excellent video has haunted me since I saw it on TV in the early 80s and I have been telling people about it ever since. Now they can see it for themselves!

  • Wow! I haven't seen this video since I was about 11 or 12-way back in 82/83. Remember when MTV used to play videos? Hence the name, music television. Great song from a great album-or should I say CD now since they finally released it on compact disc several years ago?

  • God,blast from the past :)

Used to have a teacher called Mr.Bates......used to call him norman as this song was out at the time, bad move as he was a ex para :P

  • wow unlimited. my first exposure to mtv back when they were still cool.

  • This is a lot better than that irritating Einstein "song" at least, their other hit. Very Gary Numan of course.

  • Thanks! Loved this at the time and still do now. Youtube is awesome for finding stuff like this.

  • Thanks for posting this one. I remember this on MTV in the early days. If I recall correctly, Norman Bates was a top 40 hit in the UK in '81

  • reminds me of gary numans song "this is my house"

from the "i assassin" album.just as cool,& just as

    spooky!!

  • Been after this for years!!! Still stunning after 25, odd years!!!

  • thanks for posting :D

  • Looked all over the place for this. Like you, I saw it everywhere on MTV (back when it still played music) and missed it. Delightfully spooky

  • I also was wondering what ever happened to this video. MTV used to played all the time back then. Thanks for the post. Thats funny there is only one verse...My name is Norman Bates...I am a normal Guy

  • i love this song! i thought it fell off the face of the earth.

  • Glad to make it available. Reactions from folks like you are what make it all worthwhile.

  • Have been a big Landscape fan from their beginning, have their albums too. Thanks for posting this!

  • I cant make this into a flv. why is this? did you put a copy prevention on it or something?
