  • I remember seeing this live on MTV. Oh man what a night!

  • Not a big Clinton fan, but this is still a classic performance!

  • @MeTaLLiCaT8282 Ditto. Wish people could separate the music from the politics. Great song, and a great version by Stipe/Mills with Larry and Adam, but Clinton is a douchebag.

  • I prefer Bono on Vocals.

  • I saw this live! Great!

  • Michael Stipe absolutely destroys Bono on vocals.

  • This performance was during the 1993 January inauguration for Bill Clinton. Cobain didn't die until April 1994. It was the only time Automatic Baby performed.

  • This captures a sad part of history, right after Kobain's death that year. This was such an AMAZING performance by TWO of the biggest bands of the decade! Michael Stipe was perfect for this song, it was one of the better MTV award shows. Peter Buck also joined Soul Asylum for Runaway Train I think after this performance, I miss artists dropping egos and working together like this.

  • @driloc

I might be losing my mind but didn't MIchael Stipe sing runaway train with Soul Asylum on one of these award shows around this time period? I could have sworn he sang either lead or backing vocals.

  • @driloc "This captures a sad part of history, right after Kobain's death that year":

How stupid are you? This performance was on January 20, 1993, nearly a full 15 month before Kurt Cobain (note proper spelling) topped himself.

  • @driloc lol, this wasn't an mtv awards show, it was concert for clintons inaugration. and cobain was still alive. you sound really ridiculous.
