  • my deamon would be a lemur :)

  • Is that aeronaut Sam Elliot?

  • Since I'm still a kid my daemon would be anything it pleases.

  • wtf they could of shot him but they decided to jump him from behind

  • 6:28-6:32...thats disgushing.

  • I have to say, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig play the parts well. Only thing Craig needed was his hair dyed black

  • 6:30. What an awkward question

  • my deamon would be a fox

  • my deamon would be a linx

  • @Roosje360

    *daemon.

    *lynx.

i'm quite sure you can't just randomly choose your own daemon's form, eitherrr. just sayin'.

  • not at all how i pictured lee scoresby (if i even spelled that right)

  • this reminds me of the chronicles of narnia movies

  • i think people just like to bitch when people do not have the same views as everyone else....

  • I don't understand why people call this an Atheist movie/story... the daemons represent the humans' souls and why would God be the figure that would want to cut people from their souls?

  • @andrielisilien So they will have no desire except the desire to submit, then the church will have fulfilled its foul mission: to 'perfect' an army of empty vessels as instruments to be god's living body on earth.

  • @Eldritchfan Then the meaning I understand to be is not the fighting against God (atheism) but fighting against churches that are corrupted and lost sight of the kind of person God is.

  • -srs face- This is Pan.... Pantalaimon.

    "Howdy!"

  • -srs face- This is Pan.... Pantalaimon.

    "Howdy!"

  • I imagined Lira very diffrent... But lee... Hes the right one

  • OMG I KNOW THIS MOVIE ISNT REAL BUT OMG PAN IS SOOO CUTEE!!!! AND THE WAY THAT THERE SO CLOSE IS SOOOO CUTEE OMG I LOOOOOOOVE PANTAILAMON (MITA SPELT THAT WRONG.)

  • How does the movie compare the book? Is it fairly accurate?

  • The assailants remind me of the tusken raiders from star wars.

  • serafina pekkala is one of my favourite characters, brilliant casting of her and lee scoresby. i love lee's daemon Hester, especially her accent.

shame they couldn't do a sequel, or even finish the book in the movie. Apparently they couldn't because of churches spouting some shit about religious offences >.<

  • people comparing everything to twilight is just so ultra-pathetic. philip pullman was way before stephenie meyer and her romantic vamp crap.

  • Lee Scoresby is well casted in this movie. He's the only perfect 10, in my opinion.

  • THE BOOK IS CALLED NORTHERN LIGHTS NOT GOLDEN COMPASS UGHHHH . FUCK TWILIGHT OVERRATED SHITE

  • @beautyandnobeast the american version of the book is the golden compass

  • @beautyandnobeast it is sold in north america as the golden compass

  • the witch is my favorite character really! she is beautiful!

  • Okay, the Golden Compass was written BEFORE Twillight ever came out so people should be saying, "TWILIGHT is so much like GOLDEN COMPASS!" Not the other way around.

At least get your history right, people.

  • Oh my god Lee! D:

    T___________________T

  • Why do people compare everything with twilight? twilight sux balls anyway

  • I love the witch, shes awesome :D

  • @RivenMark Sarafina Pekkala is a wonderful character

  • OMFG THIS IS SO MUCH LIKE TWILIGHT!!!!!!!! *flail*

I wanna kill these twilight fangirls. NOTHING. LIKE. IT. this movie's awesome twilight is not. cullen can go jump off a cliff, and sparkle as he falls. ;3 love golden compass!

  • @PrincesTomboy quite right, Vampires burn, not GLITTER. I personally think Asriel's daemon should have a little...chat with the dear Cullens, and then we'll see who's living forever...

  • I know I hate Twilight.

  • spy-fly...

    original....

  • Not really, it's similiar to the hunter-seeker in Frank Herberts Dune

  • Is Lyra supposed to be blue eyed and bright blode but here she has brown eyes and dark blonde.....

  • *ahem* bees to NECTAR, jeez

  • Comment removed

  • watching the movie first, I'm loving it. However, if I read the book first I'd probably dislike it. That's how it often works. But one thing I DO know for sure is this; this adaptation cannot possibly be worse than the rape of Terry Goodkinds sword of truth series that is 'legend of the seeker' o.O

  • @rachskald Yeh, they did a terrible retelling in 'Legend of the Seeker'. It's a good series, however, if u dont compare it to Sword of truth.

  • the book is really good =)

  • i wish id read the book. i ahte wwtahcing the mvoies first. it sucks.

  • If you read the book first you'd be having a hard time watching the movie like this they have changed so many details so far idk if i wanna finish

  • @BlkStunna8 That happens alot with movies. Eragon was a great book, the movie wasnt that bad, but the differences between the movies is what made the movie so retarded.

  • @DennisSpeer1 - Eragon was a poor book. Its a well known fact that Eragon follows the template of Star Wars but transports the story and setting to a Middle-Earth type setting. But considering that a 15 year old wrote it, its quite an achievement. But its not a great book by any stretch of the imagination.

  • @intheTea04 I very very much disagree.

  • @intheTea04 Eragon is a great book. and don't put age on the quality of a book a godd writer is a good writer no matter what age they are.

  • @julyox20 - Its a decent book - not a good book and definitely not a great book. Before I hear the classic "If you can do better why don't you write one?" nonsense I'll just say I'm entitled to an opinion even if its different to yours.

  • Hahaha wen Pan said howdy twas hislarious

  • 08:37 they make the girl more stupid than she could possibly be in real life by make her open that damn compass at the site of everyone even when she's had proof that it only brings trouble.

  • lee scoresby is soooo cool^^

  • everything is going by too fast...there isnt enough character developmen either...i mean i still like it but its a little different than the books

  • Sorry but what does the book have that the movie doesnt havent read the book

  • bascially the biggest and most glaring thing that the book had that the movie did not was the final three chapters in which Lyra meets up with Lord Asriel. Lord Asriel takes Roger and bascially kills him, and then steps into a new parallel universe and Lyra goes after him.

pretty much a big moment left out. however if you want to see this, just type in Golden Compass Deleted Scenes and they show this. it is 10 mintues long but explains it all through a text box along with the video

  • yeah i know but they dont hav enough time or money...and if u notice they changed th way u read the compass cause it would be too hard t do it like in th book

  • Why does the movie have to go so fast? They're leaving so much stuff out...

  • monetary reasons

  • The cowboy at the end is Sam Elliot, a regular in westerns on the big & small screens for the past 25 years-also played an Earp brother in "Tombstone"!

  • Tombstone is great and Val Kilmer's great in it :~)

  • That guy at the end is Chong from cheech and chong it's great when he says his job is up in the sky check it out

  • i think its the same old dude from ghost rider not chong

  • "I want to see if you can tell me which of the men on this ship was my lover" hahaha AWKWARD.

  • It's sad that they didn't put Kaisa in the movie-Serefina's daemon. He's a snow goose, and he helps Lyra in when she's in Bolvangar. In the book, you meet him first, and he leads them to where all the children are.

  • Even the producers made hollywood consuming, its great work, with its book in the same time as well.

By the way, twilight sucks, i agree with xrobynbabe.

700 years old vampire and a teenager with jouisance freudion thoughts, so degenerated.

  • I agree with you. Twilight is so ..... fiction. Vampires aren't real.

  • lol pan: Howdy

  • 4:55 - tals a bit like Adolf ....:)

  • well ive read the book and i found some parts to be better and some worse, but i still think ms coulter is a robot. From what she does in the first book she really seems like one. but if they make the 2 other books into movies they are really going to make some changes. like how there are said to be 2 aletheolometers(if i speeld that right) in the amber spyglass and they said there was only one left in the intro

  • pan is soooo cute :)

  • Good movie liking the book better but still this movie is brill

  • you know that their cannot put all the details in the movie coz it got to have a limit of time,

  • lyras mother is mrs. coulter and father lord asriel

  • whos her mother?

  • I understand that its gonna be hard to make a movie as good as the book but atleast make sure it makes sense lol

  • the book is way much better...

but I like the movie too :)

  • the film cuts out like half the story so when you find out the gobblers is run by mrs coulter it dont make much sense cos you know nothing bout it but in the book it describes for like a chapter :(

  • "We can work this out like gentlemen!"

    lolz yeah right.

  • to bad yo don;t have n e

    jk

  • The movie is way too fast and doesn't show important parts. :(

  • also i love how they switched the scenes up from the book

ha ppl just cant do it rite

  • Same thing happened with Twilight

  • You said it

  • How dare you compare His Dark Materials with Twilight.

  • how dare he compare his dark materials with twilight?

    HAHAHA.

omg some people are so pathetic when it comes to twilight.

    it isnt real!

    :L:L:L

  • @xrobynbabe nor is his dark materials...

  • @xrobynbabe

    Neither is this ;)

But this isn't like Twilight at all. Who compared it...?!

  • @Ghostgirl777 i kno, so why do people compare movies atall?

+ some weirdo who commented below, i cant remember.

  • @xrobynbabe ikr twilight does not coompare to his dark materials!

  • i know. its an insult lol

  • "Howdy" Luvvin Pann

  • Ta for the upload :)

  • There is a better way for you to feel that fulfillment.

  • It is so funny that they travel to Norway. And to that town. I live there... :-D

  • the Gyptians-Gypsies thing probably doesnt represent anything more than marzipan-marchpane and

scientists-theologists, it is just a differentiated word in order to put more emphasis on the fact that this is NOT our world.

  • I like the part when John Faa randomly bangs that hammer, LOL. It has no dramatic effect whatsoever xD.

  • Lee is definitely my favorite character out of this entire movie/book.

  • I was gonna make some comment about how this is probably because your an american ect. But then I realised Lee was my favorate character too. ^_^

  • Lee is awesome! I love it how this book is full of larger than life ficticious characters but Pullman throws a TEXAN in there! I am a professional traveller and a Texan so I have always loved Lee Scoresby's character.

  • I think in Pullman's world Texas is its own country?

  • yeah it is its own country in the book but what a great idea =)

  • They're called gyptians.

  • I love the music in this film, it sounds like spanish gypsy sounds, I know about it....

  • what are they call??gyptians, as in egyptians, or as in gypsies???

  • it's a different world than ours so who knows

  • It says on wikipidia regarding the Gyptians "Gyptians are a fictional ethnic group in the universe inhabited by Lyra Belacqua; they are roughly analogous to Gypsies. The name Gyptian, like Gypsy, is derived from Egyptian, the original English name for the Roma."

  • YAY! Eva GREEN!!!

  • dude...ms. coulter is sucha bitch. but in the book lord asriel ends up evil at the end.....and like...still in love with ms. C

  • I wouldn't say he's evil...just ambitious. He means well in his goal, he just doesn't care about the cost.

  • Its hard to discern whether he's a villain or not... both Mrs. Coulter and Lord Asriel somewhat redeem themselves by saving Will from Metatron. It is certain that through out the book Mrs Coulter is the antagonist... but Lord Asriel also does antagonizing things (namely, killing Roger).

  • A story is more than the suprises within it, take some time to enjoy the journey, its why one reads and rereads again

  • y did u read the comments then u idiot

  • you stiil dont know what a story is????!!!its a path, to be enjoy, when you walk you do not concetrate on your goal, but on whatyou see on the way to that goal

  • Yeah, they both do antagonizing things, but Lord Asriel just did this to get the world free of the magisterium and in the 3rd book, Mrs. Coulterjust do what she thinks better for her child!I think any mother in her situation would do the same....

  • that sounds pretty evil to me

  • yh bt ms.c gets him killed

  • That old western dude is a wonderful actor haha he's awesome! haha

  • Hei It´s Sam Elliot - he is damm good

  • That's good.

  • Shitt i didnt realide nicole kidman was sooo tall!! - love the film btw :)

  • she acts pretty careless with the compass, you'd think with something of that value and secrecy that she'd handle it with more caution

  • The guy is one of the 007.

  • wait this was a book?

  • yeh, originally called Northern Lights, sounds like a cliche, but the book is sooo much lighter and better

  • i like the book better too. the movie and book are way different.. or so it seems

  • Yes - 3 books and it´s wonderfull

  • ya know for some sorta kids movie there sure is a lot of dieing it it.

  • Posi0nApple, not that I don't agree with your point (because, don't get me wrong, I do) but there is a reason it's rated PG-13 and not PG. Just saying. Not meaning to be rude, just to make a point.

  • this movie looks hella rushed

  • 0_0 this cold be a great idea for a MMORPS like WoW only nog gay...

  • I bet Serafina's got HOT MEAT CURTAINS!

  • Bolvangar wasn't the place of fear....

It was the field of evil.

    0.o

And didn't Kaisa come to them? Not Serafina?

    Weird...

I really liked the part with the Tartars and Lord Asriel...

"We can work this out like gentleman!"

....says the eventual murderer to the barbaric Tartars.

  • Yyyyeah. They cut, like three parts of the book in just this scene alone.

The moral of the story is: read the book.

  • I was expecting a younger Lee Scorsby tbh, but still amazing film!

  • I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so it's serefina pekkala's voice during the intro!!!

i didnt notice until now, lol.

  • the gyptian king is also Hagrid from harry potter

  • wtf no its not

  • yea it is

  • Robbie Coltrane is then name of the actor who plays Hagrid. Fact

    This is not Robbie Coltrane.

    Do the maths Dumbass

  • The Gyptian King is the ogre from Ella Enchanted. :)

  • does she? lol i thought just at the end?

    no wait

    i remmeber

    no i dont

    somewhere near the end

i know that her role is bigger in the amber spyglass though xD

  • sara whata? what a stupid name. god this film is confusing.

  • never read the book this is actually the first time I have never read the book before i watched the movie, but this is good

  • I agree with you, I like this movie, too. I really, really don't like the book(s) though, the author's very annoying and there are too many anti-god themes in his writting. I like the movie pretty much BECAUSE they changed a lot. And because they cut the depressingly sad ending.

  • wat happened in the depressingly sad ending?

  • You don't know? Lyra's father kills Roger. (sorry if I spoiled that for anyone). -awful, aint it?

  • it ok...... i think......

  • what you mean they cut the depressing sad ending? sheesh... that's so irritating.

The ending in the book was epic because it was so unpredictable. As for anti-god themes bring them on. the more the merrier. - well at least for people who can live in the absence of god.

  • pan settles into a pine martin... :D lol tis in the amber spyglass...

befoer you watch the film its much much better to read the books, that way you all wouldnt have to ask so many more questions.

well serefina pekkla doesnt APPEAR but she is mentioned so maybe they just twisted it around so that she would have more part in the film,, other than right at the end...?

lmfao dont you think that at 47 seconds, asriel looks like a fisherman?

  • no serefina pekkala does appear in the book (northern lights), quite a big bit actually

  • and I thought that James Bond could fight

  • James Bond can, but this movie isn't James Bond, remember that.

  • lee scorceby is so funny

  • Anyone else notice HOW FREAKIN' SKINY EVERYONE IN THE MOVIE IS!!! LOL! I was like hmm...i need ta loose a couple pounds if these people's weights are average! lol :)

  • The movie is moved around because when they made it originally it was 3hours long but went right along witht the book. Aswell as the test viewers hated it so they cut the ending and moved the parts to make the new ending make sense.

  • The ending in the movie is fucking stupid (no offense to you).

It ends with a completely opposite feeling from the end in the book. It is not a happy ending, get over it (once again, not directed at you).

  • Oh no ofense taken i actualy hate the movie ending i think it sucks they changed it the book/original ending is the best.

  • Wow....so the original movie ending ends like the book with the next dimension opening??

    Is that available anywhere????

  • thats messed up! Serafina Pekkala doesnt appear til the end almst in the book!

  • I all ways wonder what pan will settle into what form the Ferret, the cat or the mouse? are mostly the only thing he is mostly in the form of

  • thx

  • Lee's character is played very well. :D

  • I haven't understood anything :(

  • It makes more sense if you read the books. The movie was done quickly, and a lot of things were rushed, or left out. Hopefully if the second book is made into a film, they do a better job story-wise.
