I will never forget my photography teacher in HS LOVED photography he always played Paul Simon in the dark room I dont think I would ever appreciate Paul SImon or Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac or Janice Joplin if it wasnt for my love for photography and Mr Trendler
I used to love kodachrome rolls, because they gave me nice intense colors... now it's all digital crap, and rolls are discontinued... what a fucking pity...
Over the years, Paul has been more of astoryteller than most. I love his use of common things, to make his point, even while bashing you in the face with his opinion, you feel like he's trying to be your best friend!
To quote @markchentx , Kodak is about to file chapter 11. As this photographic icon vanish into history, Paul Simon's song will become a tribute to a nostalgic, distant memory. | A very sad day indeed :(

this song could have been great. someone should have punched him in the gut right before he started the double-time "mamma don't take my kodachrome" part. the piano outro is nice though.
if you took all the girls i met jn my life and put them in one room i'd peep through the keyhole and i'd get this feeling in my bollocks that you get when you get into a hot bath but it would'nt go away know what i mean?
@jjtjet1 The music is kind of similar, especially at the end... Thanks btw... now all I can think of when I listen to this is scooby running away from a monster! X-D
If you turn your ear a certain way, it DOES sound like, "mama's gonna take my clothes and throw 'em away." Of course I'm in my mid-60s so it WOULD sound that way to me.
I've always been a fan of Simon & Garfunkel since Bridge Over Troubled Water was in our roadtrip CD rotation. (Yes, I know they had split up and this was strictly Paul Simon)
I remember when this song came out - Kodak actually filed a lawsuit against Paul! Then someone wised up and realized it was free advertising for their product. They quickly settled with Simon, and all they required was a disclaimer on future pressings of the album and single that Kodachrome was a registered trade mark and was used by permission.
I can still (probably) run a 35mm strip around a carousel, in the dark, and lock it in the tank. Turn the light on, send in the developer, fixer, water. Hang the strips to dry after squeegy-ing. Turn the light off again. Run off a contact print -choose the best shots, blow them up - develop/fix etc. Then bugger about with the settings to get the desired results........Or I go digital and PhotoShop.
Kodachrome 64 and Kodachrome 64 Professional 135 format were discontinued in June 2009. The last emulsion batch was numbered 1563, labeled with an expiration date of November 2010.
Kodachrome is the trademarked brand name of a type of color reversal film that was manufactured by Eastman Kodak starting in 1935. On June 22, 2009, Kodak announces that it will discontinue sales of the Kodachrome Color Film, concluding its 74-year run as a photography icon.
@thebackupgoaltender They do make music like this still; it's just not on the radio. Also, there are still plenty of pro-photographers that shoot film--they just probably are using Velvia instead.
"They'd never match my sweet imagination, Everything looks worse in black in white....Give us the greens of summer, makes you think all the world's a summer day" I absolutely adore this song. Takes me back to college, driving my first car with this playing, TY for posting it.

@Music4Mel97 Oh man...you really know how to make someone feel OLD!! Kodachrome is the trademarked brand name of a type of color reversal film that was manufactured by Eastman Kodak from 1935 to 2009. Kodachrome was the first successfully mass-marketed color still film using a subtractive method, in contrast to earlier additive "screenplate" methods such as Autochrome and Dufaycolor, and remained the oldest brand of color film.
@Yggdrasil710 The idea being that 'education', especially at specific various points in history, and even today, inhibit creativity of individuals. The song is basically about a kid who likes to take color pictures, and he fears his 'mama' is going to take it away from him. Thus crushing what he wants to do. 'It's a wonder I can think at all' is to say that 'education' really doesn't educate, it indoctrinates.
