Cliff and The Shadows were the musical bridge between Elvis and the Beatles. They are the missing link that the music and media industry refuse to recognise or respect.
Hearing this track reminds me just how good they were. Also you can hear the Scotty Moore influence in Hanks early guitar playing before developing his own style.
For me this song is the ultimate proof that British Rock started with Cliff and The Shads and not with The Beatles. It still sounds so fresh and timeless. Hank's clean guitar licks and Tony's beat. The Shadows wrote this sound years before The Beatles.
Have to admit I've never heard this one before...but I'm glad I checked it out...great great track...people in the States may know Cliff, but not as much the early sides with the Shadows...nice montage of pics too...thanks for posting
Try to get a hold of "Living' Doll" as this was the b-side. You'll find the backing group on that single were the 'Drifters.' They quickly changed to the Shadows due to the American 'Drifters.' Within a year they charted with 'Apache' and, hence, began the British 'invasion.'
Have this on 7" 45rpm "Me and My Shadows" extended play disc. It was common then to split 33rpm Long Players into 7" discs usually with four songs on each, so you could basically buy the LP in instalments!
Real 60s teenage stuff - one of Cliff's best.
