My friend had one when I was in high school and he had his all trick out! 351 Windsor with roller rockers and a fire ball drag cam and with 500 Cfm four barrels on a tunnel ram, it with a built C4 FMX and 411 in the rear it jesus set there rumppet rummpt rummpt I love that car and always wanted one!
All 289/302 blocks have a nearly identical material composition, with the exception of Mexican blocks, which are stamped MEX in the intake valley. (302s built for Mexico require a higher nickle content due to the poor fuel quality causing detonation)
It's when you get past 1980 that the 302 blocks were drastically weakened in the main bearing support webbings. A 289 block is no stronger than a pre-1980 302 block.
The '77 motors were rated lower than the '65 motors mostly due to the fact that the later models were measured with accessories running, while the '65 models were not. The only significant advantage the '65 motor had over the '77 was the compression ratio, which could be remedied by simply bolting on a set of older heads onto the 302.
My point is merely to show that these two motors are nearly interchangeable, and are both equally capable of becoming screaming performers.
I have same car but I need to have pic or information about engine top all my air connection is missing , carburetor go so much on gas and engine turn off?
Auuuuuhhhh I mist it! Good eye!

well the 302 had 136hp and the 289 had 210 both stock 2bbl.
the 289 is way more nickel content and smaller rotating mass, way more compression, ect, ect
