Recently I was in my doctors office telling her I didn't want this for my kids, and she looked at me with a very frank face stating, "Why wouldn't you want this vaccine for your family?" Take all of those together: Fewer than 15,000 annual cases of allegedly HPV-related cancers for 6.2 million annual infections: 1 chance in 400 that an infection will be ASSOCIATED with a cancer.
@sweetalker79 You don't have any scientific evidence that HPV even causes cancer. You have at best a 1 in 400 ASSOCIATION with cancer. If only 1 in 400 smokers got lung cancer I'd keep smoking.

Granted there are side effects to any vaccine (the most recent data was something like 0.05%, or 5 out of 10,000), but I have serious qualms over whether this vaccine is necessary in the first place. Pertussis (whooping cough) kills 300,000 annually and isn't really treatable, but HPV (which Gardasil was created for) is sexually transmitted and therefore avoidable.
@sweetalker79 STDs are quite avoidable - partners who take the responsibility of getting tested, treated for any diseases found and remaining exclusive for the duration of their relationship cannot pass on STDs to one another. Even aside from taking such responsibility, condoms are highly effective and, although you've rejected it out of hand here, abstinence is 100% effective.

Recently I was in my doctors office telling her I didn't want this for my kids, and she looked at me with a very frank face stating, "Why wouldn't you want this vaccine for your family?" Granted there are side effects to any vaccine (the most recent data was something like 0.05%, or 5 out of 10,000), but I have serious qualms over whether this vaccine is necessary in the first place. Pertussis (whooping cough) kills 300,000 annually and isn't really treatable, but HPV (which Gardasil was created for) is sexually transmitted and therefore avoidable.

Also, the vast majority of cervical cancer cases hit women at around 50 and since the shot has not been around long enough there is no way to tell. Even if it was, could they say it was the shot, or some other factor? Wake up. It's happening to too many girls to be coincidence.

Interestingly enough the ads say that it prevents certain types of cervical cancer caused by HPV. There is no guarentee that it is going to protect even if the majority of those who get it aren't killed/maimed. People actually joke about people who bring this up and assme they are conspiracy theorists. Reaction to these cases is nothing short of criminal. It should have been disclosed that the public is being experimented on.

And you'd have to follow the women for the rest of their lives to know if they ended up with it. They don't even know if the women had been exposed to HPV. Oh yeah, it HPV's never been conclusively proven to cause cervical cancer. And guess what else? The vaccine was never tested on girls only older women.Given all that why take it?

From what I understand no one in the Gardasil studies got cervical cancer during the study, but no one who hadn't been vaccinated had cervical cancer either. And you'd have to follow the women for the rest of their lives to know if they ended up with it. They don't even know if the women had been exposed to HPV. Oh yeah, it HPV's never been conclusively proven to cause cervical cancer. And guess what else? The vaccine was never tested on girls only older women. Given all that, why take it?

only 5% of HPV cases actually cause cervical cancer, not to mention Gardasil only protects against a few strains of HPV of the many that are available. Regular pap smears and checkups (not to mention abstinence) can catch it early.

As a business minded person, and a nutritionist, I have come to the inevitable realization that a corporation's bottom line, regardless the entity, is to maximize stockholder wealth or value per se. Pharmaceutical companies are no different and must follow the same business fundamentals as the other corporation. If it is selling a vaccine to the public that will make them sicker to put them in business longer then so be it. Let's face it, they make $ off you being ill, right? NO!? YES!
