I also complained that it's PG-13. I don't care if it didn't say fuck, The Matrix is rated R and no one said fuck. But I wanted Live Free or Die Hard to be a movie for adults instead of teenagers, like a grown up movie. I have this movie on DVD in Unrated Edition, that was worth every cent. I watched both the Theatrical version and Unrated version, it's a no brainer that the Unrated version wins completely. That's "Live Free or Die Hard" to me instead of the PG-13 version.

@billruller They changed a few scenes in the Unrated version, made some longer and did some pointless changes overall.. such as the car and chopper, theatrical said "I was outta bullets", while the unrated said something to the effect of "100's of 1,000's of people get killed by cars every day, that's just like 4 more." It extended a line that didn't really need it. That being said, it was still the better of the 2, and was glad they didn't cheap out on the Yippie-kai yay line.

When i first saw this movie, i didn't really like it, the fact that it was rated PG 13 is really what it all came down to. John McClaine is one of the most foul mouthed action heroes ever and taking that away hurt the movie for me (especially censoring "Motherfucker" with the gunshot noise). But i saw the unrated version later, and i liked it a little better. Every time i watch this movie it gets better, and thats a good thing for movies. Why are rated R comedies more prominent now than action?

I think it's because the audience has grown accustomed to most "genres" of a joke and now most of these R-rated comedies rely on drug and sex jokes rather than actual comedy.

There were a lot of theater goers when I saw it that were complaining that it just recycled action sequences from Jurassic Park Lost World, True Lies and others. It seemed a little too slick for a Die Hard movie. Plus the movie got pushed back 5 years in production when 9/11 happened.

James, u confuse me, u say u dislike CGI, this movie was full of obvious digital effects.  The writing, characters, and money shots were just ripped from other action films. The whole movie just screams "phoned in". Entirely forgettable.

And the plot wasn't stolen, I don't recall any action movies with the plot. @starwarsROXmy The story isn't literally a ripoff, but it's similar to other films like The Net and Goldeneye. It's not horrible, but nothing too special. The idea of McClane teaming up with a prototypical nerd-like character isn't really that original of an idea, either...in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the vampire Spike works with 3 nerds, and threatens to break their prized Boba Fett toy, a scene remarkably similar to the one in Die Hard 4. Many of the action scenes had a fake digital (cont)

@DavidTRichard aesthetic to them, and they were very unbelievable even for John McClane...different than the previous films. McClane is more of a superhero in this movie than an "everyman" type as he was in Die Hard 1, 2, and 3. Bruce Willis might have said he wanted to tone down the CGI, but it didn't happen, just like Spielberg said Crystal Skull wouldnt have lots of CGI, but it did. To sum up, i found the movie to be pedestrian and average, nothing special, ho-hum, been there done that.
