great playing but ive wondered why in all these videos the kids look like they have come out of a time machine from the early part of last century with their dress and style?
@dwaynedibbly For most people they don't define who they are by how they dress or how they look. If you want Justin Bieber then there are other clips. How about you stop being superficial.
@sk8er4life67 If you're only playing in 1st position, why does posture matter? Look at Martin Hayes, one of the best fiddlers in the world and his posture isn't much better than this young man"s.
damn gene :] its pat :DD we need to catch up.. i havent been to dunne's recently lmao so yea... ur amazing!!! i remember when u came over that time u played "play with me" on ur fiddle.. i will never forget that... :p
@yaknowurright hahaha of course! It's just josecalcru1 is my friend, and I like to make jokes! But actually I'm not the kid ;P Sorry for the misunderstanding! hahaha!
So, I LOVE Irish music and dancing...unfortunately I don't exercise neither of it...but I enjoy tunes and dancing that comes from soul and Irish music are certainly coming from very soul. I don't care can someone read notes or not as long as I can enjoy the tune.
I see some comments against "playing by ear" those who post negative points about this matter either are not a musicians or their world is so perfect. Now, nothing to do with Irish music...but...Gypsy's in my country have no education at all certainly they don't know anything about musical alphabet but they play all instruments and musics you give them to play...it calls GODS GIFT!
Probobly not unless someone triedw writing the tune on music. But irish music is generally learned by ear. It's passed down alot. That's how they used to do it because the people back then were illiterate in music
There are a lot of tunes that have been written down now--and they can be found in many books, including these ones. But, a lot of learning still does go on by ear.
well done.. hat's off and all that ...hit all the notes and got the speed ....but missing the rythym...There's more to playing Irish music than getting through it like a hare on fire. A bit too much classical influence on the fingering. Top class violin playing - not quite top class fiddling. keep it up lad.
The last reel, Never Was Piping So Gay sounds very much like Paddy Fahey's reel. Martin Hayes version is my favorite (next to this). What was the first reel named?
Amazing!
Anyone knows the name of the piece and where I can get sheet music dor it?

Please read the comments posted by the original poster. Click 'more info' and the magic occurs:
"... Eugene played the reels: "Paddy Ryan's dream" and an Ed Reavy composition: "Never was piping so gay"... "

looks like left hand is holding up the fiddle, but a lot of players do that, take a look at martin hayes, seems to have no effect on the playing..

lovely. similar to Andy McGann

Thats awesome playing, but is it just me, or did his left hand have terrible posture? It looked like his hand was holding up the violin.

It's "a" way to play it... and yes, it's a good one, but it's not the only one. Irish music is rich from the many ways it has been played.
