@Xaio30 Lol, that's the same from what happened to me with Trigun. I started watching Kino a decade after Trigun, so once I started watching Kino it was a bit difficult because Kino's philosophy differed quite much with what Trigun influenced me with. For instance, whenever Kino kills/witnesses a murder, she shows almost complete apathy for that person's death. Trigun taught me to value human life and never kill. But as I kept watching Kino's Journey, I started to understand Kino and her ways.
@ElegeantFencer I believe in a combination of the two. Value human life and don't kill for the sake of it, but at the same time don't mourn every death as it is only brings unnecessary sadness.
The only thing I hated about this series is that the first episode I ever watched was the last episode in the series. I watched it on comcast on demand, and loved it so much I asked my parents to get it. When I watched the penultimate episode, I was so pissed it took a lot for me to finish it.
The song and show are great ! I like kino for showing us how we should view the world ans that we should travel and gain new experience. It makes me want to travel ans reach my goal to what I want to be come .:)
I didn't get a chance to watch Kino until last year, always heard good things, gave it a shot, and was absolutely hooked from the first episode.
It might not be the "greatest" anime series, but everything about it is perfectly executed. The characters, the story, the style, the music, the mood, everything its top notch.
Obviously I'm sad it's such a short series, but in a way I'm glad that it never went on long enough to be ruined. (eg. Firefly for fellow sci-fi nerds)
@sanomaton I've had this nickname since I started frequenting the Internet somewhere around 1997. Who's to say Kino4500 wasn't Kino even before YouTube? :)
@Kino4500 Kino's Journey started in 2000 then became an anime in 2003. That's around the time youtube first launched, so I get the impression that you're lying..
@KumoKojiki what i love is when u find ppl who watch the newer anime like naruto n then they go like they stole this from naruto when actully the show there complaing at is from like 1996 but still love this anime
@loverofvocaloids If u change the characters it can turn into "nemura" which means..er..I think gloomy or "okura" which I'm pretty sure means something dimwitted or slow..somewhere around those lines =)
This was a very meaningful and mature story! The Last episode always gets me a little misty. ^_^ (This title sat on my shelf for years before I watched it and I when I did, I was shocked at the story and wondered why I hadn't watched it sooner!)
@14thPianist True she doesn't say "My name is Sakura" but they use the same wording of that if u change it slightly it turns into a nasty insult..and from the place where's shes from all the names are after flowers
Well, I can't shed "manly" tears, but whenever this song used to turn up on my iPod, I used to shed tears of joy for the existence of the Kino and this song! ^__^
I love Kino's Journey and my fav episode is the one w/ the Song of Sadness (The poem that is said alll the time during the day by a certain girl in memory of the poet). U should wath Hell Girl its kind of the same thing w/ lots of different stories but still one main character that is always there. Good drawing nice voice actors, but its very dark. Hope u try it
"this world is not beautiful. Therefore it is" (世界は美しくなんかない。そしてそれ故に美しい). I can't really agree with this quote, but let me interpret it my way: despite all the sad things going on in the world, it remains beautiful, isn't it?
Hehe, I've been looking over those highly recommended animes other people have mentioned, and been wondering how some of them were actually similar to Kino no Tabi - they all seemed like interesting animes, and there were some similar gems there, but a majority of them seemed as though people were just listing the animes they really liked ^^''
Btw, anyone else find Kino to be kinda hot? I dunno, I guess it's because the contrast of her being a girl yet having some masculine characteristics. Similar to how yaoi fans like men with feminine feature.
I have to be honest, I got pretty turned on when her clothes were briefly off in Country of Illness. :P
@ElegeantFencer The "movies" that I mentioned do not appear in the original anime series; that series consists of 13 episodes. The other two were not quite long enough to be movies, and are more like ova's than movies. Also, the ova's are longer than the original episodes and have different openings and endings, which is how you can tell the difference between the two.
@uberhikari I already know that. I'm not talking about the OVA's, I'm talking about the two movies. And they're actually only 30 minutes long each, the same length as the 13 episodes. I've seen Life Goes On and Country of Illness.

@ElegeantFencer Yeah, that's right. We seemed to have been talking past each other. I misinterpreted your original reply; I thought you were trying to say that I gave wrong information. Sorry about that assumption on my part.
After i finished watching Kino i though i was gonna have a hard time finding an anime of that caliber. But then i found Mushi-shi ,Twelve Kingdoms and Haibane Renmei. You won't be disappointed by these tree. :) Kino is still one of my all time favorites though.
If you enjoyed thinking while watching Kino's Journey I would like to raccomand you few masterpieces of the animation usually unknown by most: Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze, S.E. Lain (can ya see the link? :P) and you may also enjoying watching Spice and Wolf. All these animes have a slow plot and they make you thing more about life and its different styles of living it.
Kino is an outsider. Granted, she understands life so much more than the average individual. Please watch the series, it's not just your regular anime.
Everyone should go on a journey once in their life I think. Maybe not as epic as Kino's, but one where you just get out there and absorb as much about other cultures and peoples as you can.
You could learn alot about yourself and the world would be a nicer place if people just understood each other :P

@grendelee i strongly recomend Clannad(and After Story)...in my oppinion this is the best anime ever made
also you could try Mushishi(it's very similar with Kino no tabi),Aria,Angel Beats,Higurashi no naku koro ni...

@grendelee If you loved this one, for it's peacfulness and existenciality you'll probably enjoy Mushi-shi and Natsume Yuujinchou

You'll probably love La Maison en Petits Cubes, that's a lovely oscar-awarding clip.

@grendelee If you'd like something similar, Mushishi would be great to watch, or Kaiba, so long as you don't mind the character designs.

@grendelee
mushishi
it isn't as dark as kino's journey but it has the same ethereal feel
