  • very insightful ...your work has a powerful presence....you hit on so many topics that most do not cover...thank you Daniel~!

  • This video is great! I'm checking out your website right now! I agree with everything you said in this video =)

  • I tried to learn art at 2 colleges. I got little to no instruction that I understood, or clarification. All i got was criticism, teachers rejecting my portfolio and repeatedly telling me to quit, as I have no talent or skill.Ultimately i was forced to quit after being humiliated in class. With a we told you so afterwards. I'm unable to buy your course but the second i can I will even if i have to collect cans. I feel that i would be more successful had I done your course instead of college.

  • Videographers are artists tooo!!!

  • Most art teachers are HACKS that don't have any skill except to have a easy job =)

    Some are good though

  • You speak the truth!!! I've never had what I would call a great art teacher. All I've learned about art I've learned through experience...

  • "Use more paint." I need this tattooed on the back of my hand. UGHHH. Great video.

  • "don't ask me why, just do this"

THIS is why there are people who are VERY WRONGLY placed in teaching positions.

It's too bad that experience happens to anyone. I had a great painting/figure drawing teacher. YAY jennifer bock-nelson! check her out!

  • can you please help me, 16 and i been drawing, since i was in elementary school, i wanna be a tattoo artist when i grow up but problem is, i can only draw cartoons, and i can draw from my mind, i have to look at a really out lined cartoon drawing then i can do it, i really want some advice from someone, thinking about my future scares me cause i dont know how to get where i wanna be, please help. :(

  • @brittanyS123 Practice, practice, practice! Try to draw everything you see--yes, including boring stilllifes. Nothing will look like you want it to in the beginning, but as you continue, and you self-critique yourself you will grow. Study other artists but don't copy. My favorite word of advice is: If you can draw/paint everything, you can draw/paint ANYTHING.

  • 17 people are Art Teachers..LOL THIS WAS AWESOME Im Jeremy Worst Self taught Modern Artist. My Art teachers could'nt hang. I also had a moment when a teacher said something that changed my look on art and I left the Art Institute of Atlanta. But I'll most definitely use Daniels name in my next interview.he had alot of uncommon knowledge that I picked up on my on as well. took me a while because I use Golden Open Acrylics but I figured alot of things out.Check me out Jeremyworst, com !

  • Sounds cool.

  • Well said. My professors at university were about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine.

  • i mean i never got the whole "learn how to draw or paint" like many of the comments mention there's no "right" way...if its not in you to paint the same way as another person then that's okay. You don't have to. If you think your paintings are crappy and you are not strong in that field stop painting then...simple as that. Everyone has there own individual style I would LOVE to paint like Andrew Salgado, but we are two different people, and I use acrylic and he uses oil, oh well! haha

  • @PHANTOMSLAYER77 Amen!!

  • This is great! Your focus in teaching is what is needed. This is what i try to express in my own way. This is helping me as well! Thanks!

  • I agree..."there is no one way"..."you learn how to paint the way you want to paint." I sure wish I had heard this 40 years ago. I had to learn these things the hard way. Beginners would do well to get your course.

  • I appreciate this video. I have thought in the past that a pro will not use as many brush strokes to do something. I was painting from nature and quit, but finally realised that one must paint from the imagination or a vision. My painting lack many things that I forget, but change according to what I remember.

  • @MandalaClare THANKS for your KIND WORDS about my DVDs

I highly recommend Daniel's DVD lessons. His style of teaching fits perfectly with my style of learning. And his joy of painting is contagious. I've just finished lesson #5 and already am more authoritative with my brush strokes. My paintings are more 'painterly' AND I am having fun. I've been an artist for over 30 years. My friends and family are 'wowed' at the level this series has elevated me to. Thank you Dan!

  • While there are no rules or one correct way, there IS however many things to keep in mind which will help enhance your work. Just trying to paint how you want is tough, most people have no idea what they want or why.

Painting evokes many feelings, esp representational. Lack of gray for instance can give a painting a feeling of being tacky, tonal isolation and high contrast feelings of loneliness. When things contradict each other. Keep nature's methods in mind as well.

  • @artistkeith3 I totally agree with you there are no universal truths in art and any advice I give are my ideas for my art alone and how to get better at representational art similar to mine...thanks for sharing your ideas.

  • This advice is great as long as you already paint or want to paint in a style that is similar to Dan's. If you're working in a style that isn't like this, don't fret. I don't think he's speaking to all artists, necessarily. There are many types of art where this advice doesn't quite fit. His heart is in the right place, however.

  • is youtube supposed to show boobies?

  • I wish I had the money for that! I love your ideas about art and what it is and isn't. I know I would enjoy your style of teaching.

  • Dan takes his time to review your work and critic it with a positive attitude and wisdom. Thank you for these wonderful and very helpful tools. I am so excited

to see my young artist hands develop into I hope one day a master artist...I look forward to working with you.

    Warm Regards,

    Gayle K
