This is ballet... at least a form of it. Karate was taught in folk dances so the samurai would not catch them, Karate being illegal in feudal japan.

There for, this is only a dance form, A kata. If she was against another opponent it would be a fighting style, or sparring. but here it is a dance.

And she is very serious, Almost to serious, This kata is very hard, but no need for that much concentration.

kata is a special training for kumite...if you can perfect kata you will be able to do kumite...that's what i think

do it yourself ...if you can. Its very easy talk about contestants and its always the same argument: TRADITIONAL KARATE ISNT SPORT KARATE. Dont think as a traditional martial artist in this case because its another thing. Its a play, its sport. Ive known many kata contestants and Ive discovered that they are so traditional like many others karatekas....but many tradional karatekas only talk about stories, history, philophy but they couldnt defend themselves against anybody,.....

@wolfbomber wow... have you ever spoken to any first-class competitors? None of the ones I speak to ever claim to be experts. Competitions are not a test of knowledge. They are a test of clean execution and precision, with speed and flow. And yes... bonus marks for looking pretty. So please... don't be so stuck up and assume you're better than these guys because you train traditional as opposed to sport. And before you reply, know this... I'm a traditionalist who doesn't compete.

They are just dancers and poor dancers at that...Because.... let's face it there is more pleasing dance that people would rather watch. Kata were/ARE! means of passing down strategies and tatics of open hand fighting Not for putting on a show (And more importantly Not to be judged on how pretty one looks doing it!

The teachers want to show an artistic kata trough their students, but they forget about the real karate. Mikio Yahara is one of the top and a very good sensei, and we can't compare others to him. This is a commercial karate that is floating outside of Japan is not the real martial art, however is nice. NOW I'LL PROBABLY GET A "-" LIKE YOU INSTEAD OF "+" FOR TELLING THE TRUTH. :D Bye!

I don't really like the excessive pausing, but I can understand why she has to do it at this level of competition, especially to compete against the goju/shito katas.
