  • You cant stay with the same high forever..

  • funny thing, those specs don't sound all that impressive anymore...0 -60 in 7.5? I'm no gearhead, but I think a Subaru WRX can do that nowadays.

  • @deedeethekingofqns ya true for alot of cars mustangs camaros corvettes etc. but a GTO is cool and subaru WRX are gay and guys driving GTO's beat up fags in wrx's #AMERICA

  • @deedeethekingofqns Comparing a Subaru to a GTO Judge? Too bad your Jap Crap won't ever go up in Value.

  • whats all that soot crap on the rear bumper lol

  • What's the second thing he says? I can never hear/make out the words.... Mark 4 Ram Air, ???????, carter high riser set up.

  • Sgt. Hulka is our Big Toe.

  • ahh the 70's when you could pick up upcoming comedians in your car and not get killed!

  • Color me gone, baby!

  • The look the Warren Oates gives his passenger as he puts the tape in is priceless

  • go OLD GM go lol

  • Great movie very different. How all there lives crisscross and were changed over that girl. Thanks for the upload! If you never saw the whole movie make a point to see it.Oh by the way the there was no winner every one lost but gained.Check it out.

  • no factory car could beat a ram air iv car in the qtr mile back in the day.

  • @greg4161 Ford 427?

  • who won the race?

  • @poolplayer999 Don't ask for a spoiler. See the movie. Watch is about 100 times like I have. Each time you watch it you learn something very important.

  • RAM IV was bad, I had a RAM Air III it was the fastest car I ever drove. The movie has no plot

  • Dude he picked up looks like Drew Carey.

  • Warren Oates' performance is one of the greatest ever on screen. Knockout stuff, he was the man...he was the drill instructor in "Stripes" and that's how most will know him, but he has a great body of work which includes "The Wild Bunch" and the starring part of "Dillinger" before Johnny Depp also took that role on. But Warren is just amazing in Two Lane Blacktop, it's worth scoping out this film and watching it if you haven't.

  • Notice how he says nothing about vtec honda's are gay

  • yep 500 ft/lbs of torque thats what happens when you've got almost 4.25 inches of stroke.

  • I understand that GTO was not a Judge, but done up like one ?

  • (He was online 1:17) so VP Gore didn't start the internet.....this guy was online in the early 70's LOL

  • God getting spark plugs out of a v8 can be a bitch if you dont have proper tools or room..

  • @chevyman5436 Plenty of room around the motor in that '55. I loved seeing the front fenders flapping a bit in the wind at 1:58 showing how lightweight it was. Whole car probably weighed 2500 lbs, or less.

  • @dewfall56 True, but trying to change the ones in a lt1 fbody is very hard sometimes

  • @chevyman5436 Well it depend my 302 mustang is pretty easy to get to the plugs, however my old 305 chevy was a bitch cuz the manifolds were on top of the plugs instead of how the 302 wich are around and under the plugs, the last ones are always a bitch tho, my bros 4.6 OHC engine is easy tho, those got the plugs on top unlike my pushrod engine.

  • "I was testing jets at the time." LOL

  • What a great character. There are two kinds of people: those who have never heard of Warren Oates, and fans of Warren Oates.

  • @frankbooth64 I too love Warren Oates. He plays this lost soul so well. What an underrated performance. He plays a man possessed by his ego. He's so incredibly superficial. The man is nothing without strangers admiring his earthly treasures...whatever that may be....I BS story about flying jets and a car he probably couldn't make payments on, and so skips town in it. He's BSing, running from the truth, and looking for anything that will boost his ego. This is a movie about superficial living.

  • @1971SuperLead Absolutely. He elevated everything he was in, but this was some of his very best work.

  • @frankbooth64 I agree, this is his best performance. I've seen this movie 50 times. Warren totally reminds me of my late friend. He too was a bragger and so desperately wanting approval from anyone and everyone. It's a self loathing that is like a disease. I tried to help the guy, but he was unreachable. He drank himself to death by age 46. His childhood was full of corporal punishment. I believe that's what triggered it all. A mom who did nothing to stop a series of abusive step fathers. Sad.

  • I wish it were still the 70's the closest thing to this in its price range would be a 01 Porsche boxster :s

  • Nothing like cruise'n down route 66 in your GTO hardtop with a brand new 8 track player and your favourite banjo pump'n blue grass tunes. YEE HAW!

  • that gorgeous orbit orange 70 Gto Judge made the movie!

  • Warren Oats is brilliant in this movie (which is one of my favorites)

  • One of THE coolest movies ever made.

  • best car movie period..

  • Warre Oates...amazing

  • zero to 60 in 7.5 seconds sucked even for back then. A 454 LS6 Chevelle would do under 6 seconds.

  • he stole it xP

the pontiac 455 is my favorite motor of all time, and the GTO is one of my favorite cars of all time haha, id put my money on the GTO in a race ;-)

  • 1:53 one glove, who the fuck does he think he is michael gto jackson?

  • @80s4U this was before Micheal Jackson started wearing one glove...LOL!!! atleast 10 years before... So who does MJ think he is, GTO?

  • 455 was an option for 1970 i have a 1970 gto judge i bought in sep7th 1970 and the 455 was an option towards the end of 1970 thats the facts because i order one and still have it here in clearwater florida. and paid another $487.89 for that 455

  • I love this movie and Warren Oates makes it that much more special. RIP Warren.

  • Is he that Srgt from Stripes with Bill Murray?

  • @ThunderAppeal Stripes was one of his last roles, but definitely not a good example of what he's capable of. Check out 'Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia' .

  • Great Great film loved Warren Oats shame he died ...thanks for posting

  • Romantic smooth hillbilly tunes man.

  • Hello, I am from Germany, and I own this film such a long time on video, today on DVD.

For me, it is one of the best films ever, I like V8-engines and the famous actor Warren Oates!

(I know him from Peckinpah`s "The wild bunch", and that fim "Alfredo Garcia", I dont know this title, very good movies.

But: the best Roadmovie ever is for me David Lynch`s "The Straight Story",

a film, you get wet eyes.

    Greetings from Germany

    R.

  • The fat guy in the passenger seat looks like Drew Carey.

  • I tricked out the very same GTO in "Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix" and put OATES on the licence plate in memory of a real badass actor...GTOMOFO!

  • Great car, great movie!!!

  • Shame the facts are wrong..................70 Judge top engine choice was a 400 Ram air IV.................455 was an option for GTO's but not in the Judge.......until 71. Great movie however.

  • @MrSnowford you need to research your facts a 455 was a option in 1970 gto and The Judge only it was a d port motor not a roundport motor with ram air on all Judges and optional on gtos so do your homework first guy before ripping on someone else. But this is common with most Pontiac assholes they all think they fuck,n know it all.

  • @thejudgeconvertible Geez, calm down. I'm sure this isn't the first guy you ever came across that didn't know the facts. Do you talk to someone like that in person?

  • @sarkelcpa The answer to your question is yes especially the pontiac police their the fuck,n worst

  • I love this movie

  • DREW CAREY

  • Small town car freaks from Los Angeles, That's homemade stuff. Little known classic.

  • Warren Oates was an interesting actor - I think the reason he was fun to watch was because every guy had one friend who was like him - he had heart , could raise hell with the best of them but talk you out of doing something really stupid that could possibly be the point of no return for you. Really enjoyed his movies.

  • Warren died 3 April 82, always remembered.

  • Harrison Ford's car in A.M. is a 55 Chevy - in fact the 55 Chevy in Two Lane is the same car - they painted it black for A.M.

  • @throttlemonster So true!

  • Ive seen this movie its awesome..but warren oates plays a nut job in this movie

  • It was definitely a '55 Chevy in American Graffiti. No doubt.

  • Warren Oates > God.

  • Harrison Ford drove a '56 Chevy in American Graffiti. This one is a '55.

  • @aldog1965 Actually, it's the same car. It was advertised for sale in the Hot Rod magazine classifieds in 1984.

  • @ginsunh You are absolutley correct. I would have sworn Bob Falfa's was a '56.

  • @aldog1965 In American Graffiti Harrison Ford drove a '55 but for the crash scene they swapped the car for a '56 which they burned.

  • The Ram Air IV was a 400 inch motor. The 455 was an "image motor" for guys who wanted to brag about big cubic inches. It was relatively mild. Typical Hollywood to not know anything about cars. But still, a great movie.

  • Weird to think that the mechanic was Charles Manson's friend.

  • he says mark 4 ram air, then he says with a deep lower end? or something like that, whats he sayin?

  • a "beefed" lower end.

  • one of the chevys in used in this moved was in american grafftiti the one ford drove

  • Warren Oats - great actor. Say whats he up to these days? Is he still alive?

  • He died in 1982. Heart attack.

  • Without Warren Oates, this would have been a good movie. With him, it's GREAT!

  • lol Cool Movie =)

  • CULT CLASSIC!!!!!

  • Was that Drew Carey's dad?

  • Damn this makes me miss my 05 GTO . . . and mine was a Aussie import.

  • "Shes a real road king all right"

  • Am a Warren Oates fan, so have to thank you very kindly for posting this here.

  • Great movie. Some how a remake with Prius's just would not be the same.

  • i thought the 455 H.O. wasn't offered until 1971 model year. this is clearly a 1970 judge and should have a 400 RA III or IV.

  • You ever hitch a ride and feel the dude's knee to see if he goes for that sort of thing?

  • Not only does G.T.O. change his story all the time, but I love how he has a large collection of similar design but different coloured jumpers which change throughout the film!

I've got a lot of love for late 60s/70s/early 80s films, but this is easily one of my all time favourite films, I remember watching it as a kid with my brother some time ago :-)

  • Thanks for uploading this.

  • "Shit--just color me GONE BABY!" Rates right up there with "I coulda been a contenda" or "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. Demille."

  • Well if it was a factory Judge and would n't bea Ram Air IV.They came with a 3.90 or 4.33 gear and the last scene wouldn't made sense. My guess[the car in the movie] was a 455 HO with a 12 bolt and a 3.31 gear at scene3:47.

  • This movie came out right on the heels of Vanishing Point.

You can kinda tell that Vanishing Point had a major influence on the making of this movie.

This movie kinda has a Vanishing Point feel to it.....in a way, i mean.

    Anyway...

That Ponitac he's driving is classic early 70's...right down to the color!

Check out how nobody's wearing seatbelts (lol)......oh, well...it was the early 70's....who wore seatbelts back then, right?

Love Warren Oates! What an actor!

  • As for this film being influenced by Vanishing Point. I don't think so. For them both to have come out in 1971 they would have had to have been in production for a while before then. This film was a long time in the making as they even had to change studios at one point.

I could see that it might have been influenced by Easy Rider. Also there is a definite Antonioni feel to this film as well. Those are much more likely antecedents.

  • 0-60 in 7.5 seconds? Quarter mile in 13.4? 13.4 is believable, but if you are running 7.5 to 60 MPH, a 1/4 time would be more like 16.0. And Pontiac never referred to a 455 as a "Mark IV", that was Chevy with their 454. Also, Pontiac 455s were called HO or Super Duty, not a Ram Air 4. Ram Air 4 engines were 400 cubic inches. His HP and Torque quote was accurate, tho. I hate movies that don't research things!

  • You hate movies that don't research things?

I hate people who don't understand movies. This isn't a documentary--it's a fictional film that features a character who doesn't know wtf he's talking about. This is obvious in the clip where he says, "... whatever that is..." and makes it clear that he's just talking out his ass and trying to quote a manual. He's a blowhard, which you'd know if you'd seen the film or, if you have seen the film, understood it wasn't made to sell you a car.

  • @wtfttfg I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but pretty sure he tells two or three different stories about the 455 .. all of which are made up

  • ToooooooooooooooooooFast, If you watch the movie you know that nearly everything GTO (Warren Oates) says is fiction! but DO WATCH IT - it's a great movie and if you love cars you'll enjoy it.

  • Actually the Mark IV was the Big Block design after the W head engines. Not 454 Specific. And your right, the 455 was an HO not a RA, even though it may have had the functional scoops in the hood in 70, im not sure

  • The Warren Oates character was a character that lbullshitted throughout the film... that was his way of dealing with the road. So its not surprising he made up the car specifications.

  • It wasn't movie inaccuracy. If you watch the whole movie you'll see that Warren Oates' character keeps changing his story every time he picks up a new hitchhiker. HE'S the one who doesn't get his details straight! Mr. GTO doesn't know anything about cars at all-- just what he skimmed in the owners' manual. Only when he swaps cars with the two kid racers does he get shot down before he can tell another origin story before he can even start: "I don't want to hear it," one of them says to him.

  • Man kickass cars and America in the early 70's, this movie rules

  • nice car

  • color me gone baby hahahaha i love it every time i see it

those keystone rims are a disgrace to a gto though

  • Aww, come on honey! Keystone Klassics are still cool wheels, only other choice would of been Cragars! Factory wheels are so dull! Now I'm teasing alittle, different strokes for different folks! Yes, have Keystones on my Demon!LOL! Sandy

  • craigers definitely

    just color me gone lol

  • any chrome wheels would work, no black rims

  • "Just Color me gone baby!!"

  • Where is the clip where GTO (driven in the scene by Beachboy) finally runs the '55 with Warren riding shotgun? I've got to hear him say, "...you tryin' to blow my mind?"

  • I've seen this today on youtube, it's there. I think it's a trailer. Sorry for the vagueness.

  • "500 foot pounds of torque--what ever that is!" LOL

  • great clip lol

  • Fuel 20 cents per gallon.

  • Too bad I would have sell my house to "get on line."

  • I want the criterion DVD.

  • Cool movie--great era. All times mentioned

mean nothing--as the Chevy racer said the 455

GTO Could be made into a real street Sweeper-

    Just color me gone-Baby.

  • Stock 455 pontiac vs a trick 454 tunnel ram?

  • Exactly, in that era? Not a giant gearhead but wouldn't that have been a fairly predictable blowout?

  • "Just color me gone, baby!" Excellent choice of a clip, grcvegas. Captures the spirit of the film and draws new viewers in to find out what happens next.

  • LOL "500 ft lbs of torque....whatever that is"

  • Looks like the Americian version of the HQ Holden.

  • I am pretty sure the HQ holden is the Australian version of the GTO but yea it does.

  • .. don't know which i like best, the old 70 gto judge we had for 14 years, ... or, .. presently, my third buick grand national! .. GOD, I LUV MUSCLE CARS! .. guess i always will.

  • I love muscle cars too and I bought my 1970 Dodge Chalenger 440 R/T about 6 weeks ago!

  • good for you! have tons of fun! ain't life grand when you have a muscle car?

  • 0-60 in 7.5s but a 13sec 1/4m?! Haha.

  • What kind of sounds you like? Rock, Soul, Hillbilly? =D

  • Was that an 8-track? LOL!!!

  • There is a write-up in High Performance Pontiac Magazine (June 2008) about the filming of Two Lane Blacktop.

  • Warren Oats is so full of crap lol

  • I personally take offense to that.

  • Wait, I take it back. Saw that "Lol"...you kids and your irony.

  • That '55 was later featured in AMERICAN GRAFITTI. Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford) drove it. DOUBLE FAMOUS car.

  • Sad part is the original 55 (in both movies) resides in Baltimore, Md. tucked away looking nothing like the original. What a waste of machinery!

  • I thought that was the one that got the paint job and tours around with Milner's Coupe? Not anymore or a different car?

  • Check out the Elvis type high collar Warren Oates has.

  • There was NOT just one 455 available in the 1970 GTO. The 455 standard was 360 hp. There was a little known option of a 370 hp high output. Even to this day, it confuses even the most hard core of GTO guys. It was not marketed as an "HO" like the 71-72s with round ports were. It was just called 'high output' by some manuals. It differed from the 455 standard in that it had 4 bolt mains and stiffer crank. The code is YA for an automatic. I know this for a fact-a friend had one in Pepper Green.

  • was the driver "trampus" in The Virginian?

  • i love this film, was there ever a soundtrack lp. i'd love to know who did the versions of maybelline, stealin', and all the others. if anyone knows the songs in this film, please contact me.

  • I could only located these 3: "Moonlight Drive" Written and Performed by The Doors Courtesy of Elektra Records "Me and Bobby McGee" Written by Fred Foster and Kris Kristofferson Performed by Kris Kristofferson Courtesy of Monument Records "Maybelline / No Money Down" Written by Chuck Berry Performed by John Hammond Jr. Courtesy of Vanguard Records

  • if you had the money back then, you could dealer option a gto with all the trimmings..including ram air heads and cammy..and 390 hp would have been the correct factory rating, as this package was developed off the model j gp motors..i love pontiac experts who were not there to really know, and just read books written by dumbshit magazine guys.. but that mfkin 55 was a killer..same car used in american graffiti..a real runner

  • all '70 GTO's with the Ram Air IV's were 455's dude...

  • Ram Air IV was a 400 CI with round-port heads and was an option. The 455 HO was also offered in 1970 as an option and also had round-port heads. The Ram Air III 400 CI was the std Judge engine and had D-port heads...dude

  • huh??? how could the 400 be an option when Pontiacs flagship car wouldn't have anything less then a 400 cubic in? ram 3's were the 400's the option was the 455 end of discussion...

  • I'll gladly end the discussion. Ram Air IV's were never 455s. A Ram Air IV head (or any 70cc 400 head) on a 455 would yeild about 12:1 compression. That was the hot setup until the edlebrock heads became available.

As stated above the ram air 3 was the base judge engine and was not all that different than the base 400 gto engine.

  • No, I will end it. There were 3 engines available in the 1970 GTO Judge. The standard Ram Air III 400 (D exhaust ports), the optional Ram Air IV 400 (round exhaust ports-same as Ram Air II), and the 455 (D-port exhausts)........The round port 455 H.O. was not available until the 1971 model year. And the hottest setup is still the tunnel-port Ram Air V . Thank You and please drive thru

  • No, I will end it. There were 3 engines available in the 1970 GTO Judge. • :) agreed

  • That guy driving the Pontiac was probably lying when he said he was a tester of jets. For every single hitchhiker he picked up he had a different story. Never liked him. He drove a real cool car though. I sided with the two guys driving the tuned Chevy.

  • of course, he was just bullshitin' with the hitchers he was pickin' up

  • huh? Warren's car is a 455 and it's a ram air 4 it's not the Judge so it's a 455 ram air 4 only those had the 500 lb-ft of torque like Warren's character mentioned....

I don't what ur talkin' bout quite frankly, I mean if the ram air 3's were 400's then what the hell were the ram air 4's??? 455's of course!!! so please man, and the ram air 3's were just a tick quicker in the quarte mile then the 455's due to their gearing and I got that out of a book on GTO's maybe u need to read one.....

  • I hate to say this, but the dialogue in this movie was flawed...the 455 was absolutely NOT a Ram Air IV. A Ram Air III was a 400 rated at 366 HP. The Ram Air IV was a 400 rated at 370 HP (waaaaay underrated for the insurance companies). The 455 was only rated at 360HP, NOT the 390HP that Warren spoke about in the movie. It did have 500ft-lbs of torque though. It is as they say, don't believe everything you see in the movies. Otherwise GREAT movie though!

  • my dad had one of those GTO's but if this is a Judge RAM air IV 455 then it had 370hp not 390 and the correct 500 lb ft of torque but who's counting ;-D

plus that GTO is a work of art, sexiest lines and curves on the road even 2day!

  • Ram Air IV is a 400. The lines in the movie are BS for the movie.

  • Warren Oates and that GTO made this movie.

Shit Ill run off and leave them in twenty minutes--just color me gone baby.

  • Cool vid--just color me gone.

  • & from my many years of Pontiac experience, the 0-60 in 7.5 is probably bullshit. It's probably well into the 6s. Because my 1973 Grand prix used to be stock with a 455. It weighed about 300-400lbs mores than this GTO. And my engine was rated at only 250hp, not 360/370 like this Goat. Motortrend in 73 rated mine at 7.7. According my own stop watch it always ran 7.5. Now my engine is about like this GTO. It runs 6.2, and now I have even higher 2.41 gears--goes 85mph in Low Gear!

  • To anyone making fun of the 0-60@7.5: Being ahead at the finish line--that counts. This car "comes back" on the top end - to knock off a 13.4 1/4. Try that with ricer garbage. Some ricer garbage gets a great 5.0 0-60 start, but still only finishes with a 14.5 1/4. This also means most of ricer acceleration is from 0-30, which means they get their ass kicked even worse from normal driving condition punches--not from a dead stop. Ricers HAVE to be faster 0-60 to have any chance.

  • yeah, and the old bias tires contribute to the bad 0-60 times. if ya look at quarter mile times vs. mph in the quarter the mph tells the story. and I doubt the 13.4 is a typical time for the day either. I love old cars and own a few so, i'm not bashing

  • Great point. I think that tire explanation explains/adds to some of those 0-60 times being much worse in proportion to a car's 1/4 mile, along with some of the engines of the time just pulling real hard in high gears. I remember reading a test article one time on a 1965 442 with a stock 400. The article said something like "With 440 foot pounds of torque stock, traction being labeled terrible is an under-statement because the bias redline tires BLAZE if you even look at the gas pedal" LOL.

  • ha ha, yeah redlines were soooo skinny. I have pics of my dad's 65 GTO with redlines on it and he ran 13.0's with a 421 tripwer, M22 and 3.90 12bolt. Then headers and exhaust it ran 12.80's consistantly till it blew at somewhere around 60K.

  • I love the 65 bods, maybe only 3400 pounds when the 68-72s were almost at 3900 on some. Don't get me wrong, 13.0 was fast but yes I bet your dad's was suffering some serious time loss from traction, so much power in a light car, and yes the redlines, LOL. Did that car come with a 421 in the 60s as a super special "royal bobcat" thing, or did he just drop a 421 in years later, etc??????

  • PS- and not to mention he had 3.90s. I bet that car could see high 11s with that combo and if it got the best traction possble from slicks or whatever.

  • man, usualy don't talk alot about it b/c people don't believe. It was an exeutive car and we suspect that the 421 was what it had and was stock. The paperwork said 376 hp and the 421 that year was the only 376 eng.

  • Yes sir you are right!!!---because that 376hp proves it!! They had a 421 tripower at 376hp, another tripower 421 at 356hp, and a 333hp 421 with 4bbl I believe. But they weren't supposed to be in GTOs LOL. The hottest GTOs with 389 tripowers for 65 were like 360... and you know how those ran. Many 0-100-0 tests in under 20 seconds! Holy Crap that 421 car was rare!!!---paperwork and everything for the 421! It is so rare that many don't believe they even made them!

  • He commented on how different it was from any other 65-67 that he ever raced. I've seen a pic that my grandpa (orig owner) took at the strip about 40' out and he was already a whole car ahead. They put a cam in it and 4.11's and said that it ran worse. I'd say the heads were already at capacity and you know what the technology was like back then. If you're already goin 12's you may have a good set up. He said that it'd go 7K+ (on the rally gauges).

  • Probably right, at the point of the 4.11s and more cam (7,000rpm, serious piston speed on that long stroke, probably like a small block@8500!) ....they probably needed better heads---like late 60s RA3 or RA4 heads. It's amazing how good pre67 head 421s ran. Because I've heard in theory, and from a guy who raced them for 40 years ... that the only pre67 head that can flow with the good RAs of the late 60s .........

  • ......... would be the super rare 62-63 421SDs. As good as 65-66 421 376hps ran ... those 62/63 SD421s are in a whole different power level. The 421 SDs were rated at 405 and well over 500 they say! They used a solid lifter cam that if you look at the specs looks like the RA4 that came out a few years later. 2 carter 4bbls & at least 11 to 1, and as high as 12.5 to 1 compression. Taxi cab lookin cars runnin 11s with those. Gas gages moving as fast as speedo, LOL!

  • you seem to know your old Pontiac specs so could you please tell me if the Ram air IV had more jam than the S.D.? My dad had a 72trans am S.D 455.

  • Actually it was a 73'. he also had a 69'Firebird with a 350'. He said it was basically an early pontiac version of the L-T1 from 70'vette. He said the 69 was actually faster than his 73'. He also beat 69'Fiebirds with the 400. I cant verify this because I was actually conceived in the back seat of the 69' LoL. Anyways I loved hearing his old stories and love old pontiacs!

  • .....it used a cam with a different part number, but identical specs to a RA3! There's no doubt the SD455 was the best performing of the Pontiac 455s--some believe an easy 425 true horsepower on 87 octane! And it used a crappy smogger EGR intake and only 8.4to1 compression! Can you imagine it with a 70/71 HO intake, and 10to1 compression, Holy Crap! It is one of my favorite engines, and possibly my favorite stock engine (aside from the EGR and 8.4 compression).

  • LOL. And see, your dad's stories verify what I said. Those 69 Firebirds he beat, if they were RA4s, they average mid to high 13s. Your dads SD455 would be a consistent low 13 second car stock off the showroom floor with nothing done to it! His would be a little bit quicker than those 69s.

  • Actually correction. I read your dad's story in reverse. Maybe he ordered that 350 with some special cam package or lower gears to compensate--you could get crazy gears then. I just looked up the specs, w/out doing anything special, the strongest 350 that could be gotten in a 69 Bird was at 325hp. The weakest 400 was at 330. I found that at nhra(dot)com(backslash)tech(underscore)specs(backslash)classification(backslash)classfiles(backslash)1969PONT(dot)xls

  • Thanks for the info! Your a good & kind man. The 350 was a special order cuz when he bought the car new,he got less than 500miles on before the motor melted down. Turns out the boys from the local smalltown dealership could not resist bagging it before it went on the floor and dad bought it. Anyways the dealer payed for a new motor and gave dad a blank sheet to order from.

  • Wow! Thank you for that info! I knew something was unique about that 350!
