The best fuckin band in the 80's bar none. Still cutting it in the year 2011 !!!! Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill are gods!!! This song still sounds brilliant, even better than first hearing this in 82 in the Waterfront pub on the Broomielaw in Glasgow
Awesome song, best of the 80's. Incredibly annoying to watch though, what with the view changing every three seconds. Will listen to just in background.
Saw them last year on their Graffitti soul tour and they were better than when I used to see them in the 80's and early 90's. Got my tickets for Thetford and can't wait. An absolutely amazing live band who gets more from the crowd than any other band I've ever seen!
Fuckin' fanmatastic band! Too bad U2 got all the attention. Master drummer, key man, & FX axe man teamed with a great writer & vocal. If it's not from Scotland it's crap!
In an late 80s interview with Dutch musicmagazine Oor, Bono told how he always played this song right before going on stage because he found it powerful and inspiring.
@mohomoho1 u2s early gigs bono used to throw himself about like a madman, but this all stopped when he nearly killed himself a few times in the war tour. He dosent have to do that any more as the crowd will come to him. Simple minds are great live but U2 are better.
I'm gonna have to jump the puddle, and go to scotland or England or Ireland to see this guys, waiting to see if they wanna come to South Florida, and zero nada.
Glad to see them back, it's been too long. Saw them in Dec 08 and in torrential rain at Edinburgh Castle in July 09, let's hope we get more classics from them
@doctorwhonico Lol! I know we all love SM but realistically that's what people said over 30 years ago about hip hop(btw for the record rap and hip hop are NOT interchangeable. Rap is but 1 of 4 parts that make up hip hop) I don't listen to the new stuff(a little TOO ignorant for me) but golden age is more my speed. Raps not going anywhere soon. As long as it's making record companies rich it will be here. The samething was said about rock. Now if there was no rock there'd be no SM. Peace.
ive still got every album by them, ive been to see them 3 times ,they were my favorite band when i was younger, but ive not listened to them for years, ive started watching them again on youtube & its like discovering them all over again, awesome!
nothing wrong with middle age...we will all be middle age one day... if lucky enough....glad i made it... it means i got to see simple minds and all the great bands from the 80's....wouldn't change my age for the world...47..... loving every minute.
this is from a 1984 album right? I have it on vinyl. I believe it's a collectors item, B cause it came out JUST B4 "The Breakfast Club" soundtrack which brought them to their successful American career.
Well, actually it was released in 82, yaywhewclips 242, and not so much a collectors' item. New Gold Dream 81-82-83-84 is quite common and easy to buy. Not to say it isn't a brilliant album, though.
Very nice to see that they are still performing. I just love to see this.
Still, I would like to make a comment, and wonder if anyone has noticed this: it looks to me that Jim is a bit anxious about his voice, and he seems to avoid harder parts with sudden voice changes.
In fact, he does the calm parts very well like in the old days.
Simply Brillant... Simple Minds. Can't wait to see them at Wembley Arena in November. Looks like fans from all over the globe will be there. And with performances like this, we know why!
Still as good all these years on, just got two tickets for Sheffield Areana gig on 1st December for me and my girl, and we cant wait, deacon blue supporting too, what a night, Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song but cannot go past the somewhat bastardised versions of this and Book Of Brilliant Things on "Live in the City of Lights"....they are just awesome....full of feeling and emotion. The sound blows me away. Finally saw them live in Brisbane 3 years ago and they were magnificent.
I've seen Simple Minds twice, once in the late 80's and again in the early 90's, going to see them in Dec at the SECC, they must surely be one of the best live bands EVER? I've never gotten sick of their sound...
just at the start of this clip u see a bit of white in the crowd to the right, thats the white part of my irish flag, was a great concert
