The K2500xs is an awesome machine. I bought one at the end of their manufacture and it didn't have the problems of the 1st run of the K2600. I've had it since the fall of '99 and I compare it to newer "Workstations" from yamaha, korg, roland, etc...when I visit the local mega-music stores, and the SOUNDS still win out! Kurzweil developed non-obsolescence operating systemware and the ability to read other manufacturers samples. Ray Kurzweil is a futurist-so could I expect any less from his company?
How does the Kurzweil K2600x's action compare to modern day keyboards such as the yamaha Motif or roland Fantom G8? I have the opportunity to buy one for $800, but I am not sure if I should get it... I need your help!
I call BS. I have the K2500, and it's STILL capable of making sounds that a LOT of synths can't. It can do patch switching without breaks... which I'm still waiting for another synth that can do that.
Also remember how old it is, and how it's STILL better than some keyboards.
Presets somewhat suck yes - I agree with that, but don't base something on what it comes with... base it on it's actual potential. If you're using it just for presets - go with a Roland or something different.
I had mine for at least 3 years. If you like Chick Corea kind of sound, acousitic that really stand out is fine. Actually people who has it is for TV comercials and life shows.
My problem was blending the sounds, all K2500 banks are "leads" even the pads. I had a Korg Triton back then for a few days and it was amazing, the presencie of each sound was friendly with each other. Roland had the JV 80/90 series witch was a weaker version of the K2500.
I do agree that when you start combining sounds... when they get processed by the effects processor they SUCK - I totally agree there.
I haven't messed around with KDFX unfortunately, so I can't speak to the 2600 at all, but I know the Oasys has the ability to completely separate the sounds from one another so each sound has it's own acoustic space...
Maybe it's in KDFX already and I just don't know - but I agree that it's a weak area for Kurzweil (or was with the 2500)
I had the K2500RS without KDFX. The thing with the K2500/ K2000 specially is that they were the first box in having everything in it. No other synth had samples and and regular sound banks loaded at start up. But navigation was a nightmare. At one point you were a musician or a programmer. Many people "loved it" because they paid $3000 for it but for the used they gave a Proteus was enough.
Anytime, I can prove to you on any K2500 how true is its superiority. If you're just a bit handy, the original sound sets can even be replaced withthe K2600 with no problem, and that really time-warps it into the 21 century. join in the KDFX option and it's an undescibeable monster. The fact you can operate 32 controllers on every single sound, the immensely hillarious synth engine, combine arpeggiators with real time sequences shall blow your mind.
@mamushkin Hi, I have a K2500 with Piano and Orchestral but no KDFX, can I really load K2600 programs on it and they will sound better than what I have now?

This demo is not good, just a guy playing different sounds but is not showing what the keyboard is actually capable of.

@enigmahack Definitely! I got one too and I've found it great for creating some sounds. Seamless patch switching is a great feature too.

The K2500 is overrated crap. The good thing is the player... talented. he can make any keyboard sounds pro.

Kurzweil has a most flexibile sound engine and editing abilities. In your comment it's instantly visible what kind of player you are.
