Such a great man. I can totally sympathise with his alcoholism. As a shy young lad from Belfast coming to Manchester at 16 and suddenly becoming idolised and a major superstar, it was all too much and as he was quiet and naturally withdrawn he drank because he didn't think he could liuve up to peoples' expectations of him. It was sad but when I saw hime once in a bar drinking glasses of neat vodka from 11am and then bottles of wine I'm surprised he lived as long as he did!
@thenorthfacetrek Love the way he says he's never had nerves at all at to 3:24, and just loved to get out and play football. This is testament to Best knowing he was a genius at his peak, going out to entertain the crowd. You gotta be better than good to get away with that!
@TheWhizz123 you're way wrong. have you ever been to East belfast? british flags all over the place. I think the loyalist ulstermen in ireland would rather play for the north anyway. it's where they're from. but, sectarianism aside, he was the greatest player to ever come from the island of ireland.
@TheWhizz123 He was brought up a free presbyterian, and had links with the orange order, so he was far from a Catholic - but he didn't agree with sectarianism he just wanted to kick a ball around and score some unbelievable goals.
Thanks for posting this. George was always a gentleman. A very likeable and decent man and that shines through here. He never blamed anyone else for his drinking. He simply enjoyed it and that was it. He played with such fearlessness and incredible courage. Thank you for showing an interview in which he appears so relaxed and at ease with himself.
In the late 60s and early 70s Georgie used to terrify defenders with his skill, and have the girls screaming for him on the terraces, a real Rock,n, roll footballer, he always entertained, how i used to envy this man!
@Yiouli3AEL i know but george said in his last interview,"when i'm gone people will forgot about the rubbish and they will remember the football" and that's just what we should do : )
i believe we should also remember the part of how a great footballer who, lets face it, could have become one of the most unique footballers of all times where people would not even compare maradona and pepe to him (thats how good he was) ended up in alcocholism women and a bad life. ppl have to remember this as an example cz lets face it he is one of the greatest examples of greatness and ruin! just an oppinion [;

Yeah, he means he was more talented that Pele but because birds loved him he couldn't give two fucks about becoming his best self. Which is hilarious when you think about how good he was without even trying
Det där var bland det jävligaste jag har hört! Varför uttalar han hans namn Yord? Låter åt helvete.. Han låter dessutom som en pedofil men det är väl en annan historia.
@avro007 Why on earth would an irishman want to play for england ? Do you think the entire world wants to be english? Did you dream of playing for scotland as a child? He made no comment that would indicate that he wanted to play for england never mind your suggestion that he would have "jumped" at the chance. Absolute rubbish.
@taobhchlea You never replied to my question!-Why would I think that the entire world would want to play for England?
The interviewer asked "would you like to play for England" I did not hear him say no .He said I like to play for Ireland( Northern Ireland that means) but I would like to play in a world cup, the only opportunity of this is if he had been eligable to play for England that is why the interviewer asked him.
If it was left to the Irish he would not have never been found at all.
George Best, a football Legend, ...and up to this day, the world has never seen a more gooooood looking footballer ... George had it all! He had the looks and the talent !!! Football in those days were so exicting to watch, because of mavericks like him......

I think he meant that if he was ugly there would have been less media attention, consequently football per se would have received less attention, and the likes of Pele would not be so famous, so yes, the looks were more important than the skills.

I'm from the States, and think Best was one of the top two or three athletes to put on a pair of cleats, in any sport, in the last 50 years. We were fortunate to be able to catch some of his matches on ABC when I was a boy. What he had, you can't teach.
i hear ya.a face to turn any gay woman straight! i met him in the airport in Belfast when i was 8, ironically the international airport too. now both airports in belfast are the George Best airports for me
I love Geroge best....i am not gay wid him or anything but he is truly the best.....i hope cristiano ronaldo becomes as good a footballer as best was...RIP...A true Legend the gr8est player of all time

It should be mentioned that this was a children's show in Sweden. That's why the questions are rather basic...

I'm from the States, and think Best was one of the top two or three athletes to put on a pair of cleats, in any sport, in the last 50 years. We were fortunate to be able to catch some of his matches on ABC when I was a boy. What he had, you can't teach.
