Whoever tossed a cigarette near freshly coated wood (I read they were using tung or linseed oil) acted very stupidly. This could even be called criminal negligence. That said, though I'm no expert on Johnny Cash, from what I've heard, he would have found it in heart to forgive the guy. It was a stupid mistake, not a capital crime.
That's a true story about some redneck throwing a lit butt onto a lacquered surface. Since the entire floor had recently been re-lacquered, the entire place went up like Tokyo in a B-29 raid.
Funny thing about rich public figures, socialites, celebrities, etc., is that they have to hire the same white-trash construction crews as the rest of us.
Johnny Cash had been friends with Roy Orbison since they started out at Sun Records together. I think I read that the Cash's built thier houses next to Roy and Claudette Orbison. The fire at the Cash's home was ironic and sad, because in 1969 or so, Roy's house burned down, which claimed the lives of 2 of Roy's sons.
@SuperGraceland after Barry Gibbs bought it, the were renovating downstairs (the whole place was wood) and were applying more lacquer and a worker threw a cigarette down on the fresh lacquer and it ignited.
Yes, he DID die of broken heart, he was depresed, in and out of the hospital for pneumonia, he wouldnt take care of him self, he DIDNT want to live, he wanted to be with june, and his body gave up.
The MD's say he died of complications due to diabetes. I agree with kdub911, he died of a broken heart when June passed away. (Heart surgery I think).
Alanyoung 2 ? The same from Mr Ed fame ??? If so, thank you for the memories.
I planned to visit that house once I enlisted into the Air Force, but now I can't. It's so depressing when you look foreward to something really big as a kid and it's destroyed by flame. Still, as soon as I am assigned to my base, I will visit the property.
how did the firs start ...and who was in the house at the time.....i heard ion the news that the neighbor phoned the fire departmeant about a ring of fire over the house then it burnt to the ground ....thats intence
@BecauseImAwsome I quit reading your comment after you spelled "Depressed" wrong. And "Awesome" has an E after the W.

I thought the house burning down after john and june passed was pretty symbolic of a passing of an age. Sad stuff!
