I own the XR two door and they barely went over how amazing it is! It handles like a dream, brakes are good, and let me tell you, the heated seats are a god send when its cold outside! Many of my friends and family are impressed and love to drive it more then their cars! I would import another one in a heartbeat!
Hey America if you dont like the Opel Astra then dont imprt it, call it a Saturn then complain about its lack of bluetooth. Over here in Europe its a brilliant car.
The US Astra gets a poor spec it seems. Had to laugh at this 'simple style review for people'. The control icons are a bit different on these but nothing exceptional, you need to be monumentally retarded not to get used to it.
I love my grey 5 door 1.7 SRI superchiped up to 123 bhp. And I get 55 mpg (UK gallon) it's never gone wrong.
Loled so much when she said it may confuse American drivers. What are they moron?. All American car's buttons are labeled in English cos as far as Americans are concerned, there is no other language, at least not one worth considering. In Europe there are so many languages spoken in such a small area, the buttons are labeled with icons because changing the buttons in every different country would be unnecessarily expensive. In the Uk is the VAUXHALL Astra, but there's a new one now.
hi why in US astra`s come only with 1.8 petrol?in UK we have 1.4 1.6 1.8 2.0 2.2 petol and 1.3 1.7 1.9 cdti diesels.and i must say 1.9 diesel is excelent fantastic engine has 120bhp and will get 50mpg.with 1.3cdti you`ll get 58mpg.
@portbalto America can't really build any good cars, haha. They insist on dated technology and "straight-line" performance. Not to mention some rather ghastly designs.
Really the Corvette is really a dog. The CTS-V another dog.
The Ford SHO-Fusion are all really nice cars too. We also make the best trucks including the Tundra which is totally made here. BMW are made here, Nissans made here, Toyotas made here, Mazda has plants here......etc.
I bouhgt mine in May of this year, and 1700 miles in, the horn went out and GM can't get the part for it. So they have my car, and I'm in a rental for about 20 days, and they project I'll be in it for 20 more. So my first GM car becomes my last GM car.
@Wuodan1979 ...and an idiotic idea. What made Saturn such an amazing success when they debuted in the early 90s was that they were practical, simple, stylistically unique, more powerful, better equipped, and cheaper than their imported competition. They were also exceptionally reliable, had a great dealership policy and customer loyalty...and were all-American. To try to recapture that success by rebadging a foreign car is, like I said, idiotic.
Well 4 is more of a women/family car but 2 door is ok for guys as know a few guys who drive some so you are ok mate with the 2 door model but i would hope you get the VXR higher power 240 bhp version we get here in the uk over there.
Really people... I know that you're not Europeans who are looking at Astra for a few years but come on. I myself drive an Astra as a company car, 1.7 CDTI (commonrail turbo diesel) and the best thing about it is the engine (made by Fiat BTW). But definitely not the interior finish which is cheap, too much plastic, awful radio/climate/system controls and layout (although they change by model). Stuff like rear seat folding and not too much space are only salt to the wound.
if you want to feel cheap interiors, drive about every single american and jap small car sold here. the astra is miles, and i mean MILES ahead in quality. we only have one engine choice, which sucks, but its adequate. i really do like the car.
I really don't envy you ;) But Astra is not a small car, and it sold so much because it is cheap. But cheap means lousy interior and finish... Stability is so-so... good for going straight. Your only engine choice is OK but my 1.7/100 HP can match that with no problem. Too bad you don't have Renault, Peguot/Citroen, or Skoda for a larger choice. And the lack of turbo diesel engines is just silly. Better choose Vw Golf... errr... RabbiD :)
Well no, but sometimes they make a better buy ;) Last time they bought Peguots 206 SW, little sporty caravans which had better interiors, and fast engines with lower consumption... They also had more spots for things in the cockpit which Astra lacks definitely...

Chevy Vectra
Opel Astra
Vauxhall Astra
Holden Astra
Saturn Astra
... They are all the same thing, here in Argentina it's called Chevrolet Vectra (and Vectra GT the compact version)

Saturn's commercial says they build cars Americans want but this wasn't even built in America. America can't build good small cars.

u kno Vauxhall has the Astra in its line of cars too
Forza3Forza3Forza3 2 years ago
that's cause Vauxhall is part of GM's European Division just like Opel. It's why they also have an Opel Astra as well.
