Okay, so to be clear about why we fear the classic monsters. Dracula/vampires will bite you. The Wolfman will tear your throat out. The Mummy...um...does he beat you up? Strangle you? What about the Creature From The Lagoon? Does he drown you? Exactly what are we supposed to be afraid of? Frankenstein's Monster may (if you provoke him) beat you up. Or, if you're kind to him he'll stroke your face. And what can a skeleton do to you? Bite you? I'm very curious.
Re what we fear about monsters - in central europe in the Middle Ages, people were literally afraid of being hunted down & eaten by wild animals, i.e., bears and wolves - plus people used to be more religious, so the concept of demons dragging you to hell was more compelling. And then there's the nightmare factor, where the fear is irrational, the spooks are in the mind (so, fear of insanity? dissolution?) Plus fear like a bunny fears a snake, just blind panic -
@StraightRazor99 Mummies, like other supernatural creatures have incredible amounts of strength, so I'd imagine it's what would happen if you pissed off a gorilla. They don't need to bite you or claw you to fuck you up. The lagoon monster would drown, and kill you in general. There were also some strong suggestions in the movies that the monster would rape its victims as well. Frankstein's monster is another freakishly strong creature. It murders people pretty brutally in Mary Shelly's novel.
It is way better then the original version because this one has the guitarist of red hot chili peppers the singer of tool and the drummer of a perfect circle so you cant go wrong oh and it has that chick from the 5th Element
@helldog134 theres a few current good vampire films. "Daybreakers" wasnt so bad, "30 days of Night" was good and "Let The right one In" was amazing. Ive also heard "Thirst" is good.
that's Mila Jovovich humming too, this is one of my favorite songs...definitely my favorite Bowie song!not to mention,i love me some Mila!hmm..hmm..hmmmmm just before Frusciante comes in with the solo...
Thanks for all the great comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, This is a great song and yes I have a great passion for the classic horror flics! Some of you were asking about the films that were used...well here they are: "White Zombie", "House on Haunted Hill", "Atomic Age Vampire", "King of the Zombies", "The Last Man On Earth", and a short clip from the cartoon "Casper The Friendly Ghost". Thanks again! -Peace
I think that this shows your passion as well as your talent. There are so many points where the video scenes matched so perfectly with the words of the song. As your watching the scenes the song enhances the feeling of some of the moments, yet mellows the feelings you would have normally have when watching some of the other scenes. Where I see the passion is in the scenes you chose to match with the song, they were chosen for reason and I think they worked out perfectly. I absolutely love it!:)
brilliant. best ever. not for the squeamish though. i'm usually squeamish but it's the surrealist brilliance of the old films and the dream-like lyrics so perfectly matched that makes it compulsive viewing.
I really love the scenes that you used on this video. Might I get a list of the movies that were used? Now I'm interested in seeing if I can watch the actual movies!
this is a great song, any chance you could add david bowie's name to the video title it will come up under bowie searches that way. cheers for the upload.
I logged in to post this coment. Phantomstranger you SHOULD do things like this dont stop at that one (i dont think you will). Im so impressed! Pozdrawiam!
well, the original version, as you most likely know, is a bit more jazzy...perhaps something along the same lines, but with more of a old hollywood theme? something still with old black and white (or even super 8 film!) images of sadness/loneliness, as it is a very sad song.
after watching this again, i really don't think it would be hard for you to put something great together after being inspired by the song.
again, wonderful job and can't wait to see what you do next!
this should be the next 007 theme song....kicks ass
