  • THIS IS PRICELESS

  • Two things: Bass player has a moment at 2:58 Only one on stage not enjoying this at 3:33 #CLASSIC

  • Thanks for the memories from my younger days in the Bronx.

  • Love it!!!

  • remember it vividley, it alway's come's back so easy. sonny-021

  • The bass player was my 6th grade teacher (English). Go Mr.Browder!!!!!

    Hempstead Middle School.

  • Cory Daye's magnificent voice sounds like bells chiming. And I also love the sexy bellhops! :)

  • Respond to this video... LEGENDARY

  • Loved Dinah! Quiet as it's kept, she was as too damn hip for the room. Mad props on this performance. It's so mad clever & inspired. It's hypnotic in every way. The production, look, scenic design, muggin', arrangements, vibe, content, etc, is so sick! I didn't realize how much the entire presentation was meant to resemble an old time Hollywood musical. Brilliant stuff! Just freakin' BRILLIANT!!!

    One.

  • A pure treasure.

  • I remember this song like it was yesterday. Totally love it. Thanks for posting this video. I have to go now. My eyes have watered up. Memories.

  • I loved when band dressed to the t.

  • anyone know where they popped up from ? thanks

  • CLASSIC!!!!.....Still amazing as the first time I heard it back in the 70's....

Some of these acts that are out today should take a look at this to see what class, musicianship and entertainment actually looks like....These guys ( and gal) were a true original...Hope Unsung does an episode on them soon.....

  • Was she Pregnant?

  • loved it then and love it now~~~~!!!!

thank you so much for sharing!!

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!!!

  • Love the details about this clip! Can't get enough...

  • What an AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME POST!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful woman! So much class and style!

  • Love the 70's!!!!

  • All the comments like bruno4237 are so right--this number cannonballed into the social scene of 1976--great vid, thanks MundiWorld what a rare clip--Sean Connery holding the record album, Dinah Shore looking so nice

  • so beautiful it gives me chills!

  • Go On Coati!

  • Corey Daye........What a doll ! She has the charisma of a movie star from the Golden years. Magical performance !

    Thanks for posting

  • can you show the intro for sean connery, when Dinah introduces Sean on the show.. This would be earlier in this segment.

  • that bass player is having a funky time! lol

  • @WahkibaJ Yes he is....GOIN IN!!!

  • Uma das boas canções do fianlzinho dos anos 70 e se tornou eterna .

Tommy Mottola era o homenageado da música.

  • Amusing looking at the sleeping dog.

  • Thanks for posting this. Incredible performance. And Cory holds her jacket until the very end.

  • I think with all the gorgeous details the group paid attention to, the precious dog sleeping though all of it is the best of all.

    This band was Familia 110%

  • Cherchez La Femme...with Cory Daye vocal!! Wow! Wow! Very special...a great latin beat...and rhythm...a great mix of music!!

  • Thank you for this gem Mundi

  • OMG. What a magnificent performance from a historic group; a group, I might add, that was way ahead of its time. Coati Mundi's perspective, and the back story of the performance on the Dinah Shore show, adds much to the historic significance of this performance. I loved just about every song on the first ablum - The 2nd and 3rd (Mr Petitt - 1978) and (Dr Buzzard Goes to Washington - 1979) albums also belong to the ages. This group will NEVER be replicated. Thanks for sharing with the masses.

  • Great memories of this song while growing up in Buffalo NY. Very special indeed.

  • I would have so loved to be a part of this band, I would gladly have twisted like the two young ladies in the Lucky Strike outfits! :D They are so cute. Awesome. I watched this back in the day on TV. Ms. Daye is not only a beautiful singer, but person as well. Down to earth. This song is still way ahead of it's time!

  • This is such a cool song, disco/30's sound. So much better than music today.

  • Great Cory Daye & Band!!!

  • so wonderful to hear talent even if it was dubbed, they really played those instruments when the song was recorded, so, Thank you for posting the video and the song.

  • @Connie1Fan

My pleasure ... bee well - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Dude, I dont care how old this woman is now I still want to marry her.

  • It's MR. LIMELIGHT @ 3:32!! :)

  • Who is in the line up?

  • This song is so good that it makes me feel sad because i do not here greatness in music like this anymore

  • We just don't want it to end....

  • Thanks for posting this blast from the past. Dr. Buzzard/Savanah Band was my little sister's fav and Cherchez La Femme her fav song. She passed away 15 years now and I still miss her so much. But this makes me smile because she would light up whenever she heard this song. I have the album I bought for her with her signature and friend's names from back when. R.I.P. Pinky - I loves ya!

  • @CrayCruz

You are welcomed ...Appreciate you sharing the sentiment regarding your little sister Pinky ... she must have been a just a lovely soul to have known.. u b well always and thanks for the support - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Bond.

    James Bond.

  • This is amazing! The first and only time I ever remember watching this group perform on television was on Dinah Shore's show. And now some 33 years later, I'm watching that same performance again here on Youtube! I never would have guessed I'd be experiencing this once more. MundiWorld, thank you SO much for posting this!

  • @rachelazw

Gracias & Glad you enjoyed it - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Cory Daye, is totally underated, true!

  • Sean Connery would have been too young but for Ms. Dinah Shore this had to have been somewhat sentimental and nostalgic for her.

  • I used to watch the Dinah Shore Show and The Lawrence Welk Show with my grandmother in the mid 1970s.

  • What a number : )

  • Comment removed

  • If you notice on this performance compared to other performances they were hype. Cory is going for it vocally and physically. I guess cause it was the Dinah Shore show. Unforgettable performance. Also LunaSeaSane the most of the vocals are live.

  • this woman looks like hoda kotb from the today show.

  • Loved It Then ....Love It Now.... Wow....

  • The lead vocals sounds live, but some of the music sounds like a recording. Very entertaining just the same.

  • Fun band!

  • Great performance. But that dude playing bass right next to to singer acted like a real horses ass. He's over doing it he looks stupid like he's trying to get all the attention. What an ass, I hope they got another bass player.

  • @TwinMillMC he is the leader....he would go on t o lead the Spin off group Kid Creole and the Cocanuts...the Vibes guy does splits and turns as well...

  • @TwinMillMC He is channeling Cab Calloway a bandleader of the 30s and 40s

  • @taylor4660 oh I didn't know, but he still looks stupid don't you think?

  • Cory Daye is a vocal powerhouse and very underrated.

  • The most unusual name for a band...the most unusual band ever...and of course, the best band of all times ever!

Thanks a bunch for sharing with all of us the precious live performance video!!!

  • @barbozageraldo

U r welcomed ... take care - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Mr. Mundi--Thanks for posting all the great videos! Loved Dr. Buzzard (have all 4 albums) and Cory Daye is always memorizing. So delightful to see her live at Lincoln Center with you!

  • @beaglybeagle

You got it n thank u for the support thru the years ... when I get xtra moments will post more - bee well - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Cory Daye is a delight and for some reason, that dog is integral to the show...

  • They're on their with Sean Connery? Love it! Love Dr. B's Original Savannah Band!

  • I like this Band!! I never tire looking at the videos!!! Cory Daye is sexy!! She reminds me of my girlfriend

  • Isn't She lovely.. Miss Cory Daye

  • too cool!!!! love the dog

  • I've never seen this and I LOVE IT!!!!

  • Corey Daye & The Savannah Band is still one of my favorites of all time. Thank you for posting. I had to pursace a DVD with 20 videos from Holland and this was on of the videos and paid over $40 us dollars but worth it. I wish I can see Corey sing live. :-)

  • i absolutely love watching these.

    thank you!

  • @poltergasmic

Appreciate it ... glad u r digging the vids

Paz - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • do u got the rest of this episode so i cud see george kirby talk :D

  • I had this on 8-track and now on my i-pod. Wonderful memories.

  • I knew this was an instant classic the minute I heard it on the radio. Couldn't get enough of it - in my Wash. Heights 'hood back in the day. This came out in spring of my sr. year at CHHS in the S. Bx. When this was played EVERYBODY danced - even the guy's that couldn't (or shouldn't)! Hearing this brings back a FLOOD of GREAT memories: HS dances, pleated chinos, "marshmallow" shoes, late summer evenings in NYC...someone even played it off a boombox during the bicentennial fireworks! THANKS!

  • @bruno4237

I lived for a minute in Wash. Heights - also went to an I.C.B. high school (Rice) . Appreciate the sentiment n u take care - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • @bruno4237, I lived in Wash. Heights too (Riverside Drive, just north of 158) ... born there, moved away just after this came out. I was about 11. Childhood comes rushing back...

  • It's a mystery to me why this fantastic outfit never really went anywhere. Too stylish? Too musical? Too implicit (as opposed to explicit)? Too way out? - Anyway, this is classic stuff, and I'm glad to have bought the vinyl album when it came out.

  • One of my all-time favorite songs -- and album, too...!!! I miss those days.... :(

  • that song is sooooo hot , takes me back to my youth nothing but love and joy. love the group.

  • THANKS YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS SWEET

  • they didn't fool you. if you compare vocals from the original video to this one you will notice slight vocal from corey daye. the vocals are live

  • @jiml218 Thanks for your post and just to add to for additional edification..check out the description box - Thanks - CM

  • The dog sleeping under the piano while all this delicious mayhem is going on is hilarious!

  • memories, music is great....

  • This song is magical, Corey Daye is a godess

  • I loved this song, also Kid Creole's Endicott, Stool Pigeon and Hey Mambo. Unfortunately, it seems a VERY well known NYC songwriter and producer is stiffing them on royalties...Will not name names. Reminds me of a Dion song about better luck to a girl he's through with. Cory, we love you.

  • never seen a music group onstage with a sleepin dog in their act on stage before,BRILLIANT!

  • She's brimming with sexual energy and obviously having a blast. I remember this hit when I was a teenager, but have never seen the video before. I'm loving it.

  • That really is wonderrful!!!

  • beautiful!

  • OMG THIS IS MY NAME

  • First time I heard this I knew it was classic. What 76 or so?

  • What's her phone number, I want to marry her.

  • Original Ghostface Style

  • PURE AMBROSIA... fantastic, with great thanks for this gem!

  • @Jantelover

I thank you - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • @Jantelover THAT is the word!

  • I L ove this Disco Tune

  • So I guess it's safe to assume that this show was half taped and half live because when it starts the brass section wasn't even playing with the recording. But when it ends the piano is still heard. Interesting what tv shows do.

  • @blktenor The additional info explains that they did a special track for this so that part of the track was on tape with certain parts muted to be played live so yes, it's a mix of live and track music.

  • @blktenor Thanks for your post ..check out the description box - Thanks - CM

  • My sister used to date August Darnell waaaaay back when he was an up and coming musician in N.Y.C. :)

  • How very sweet... a cool laid-back dog under the grand-piano, a CBS mic, a sexy singer with Blade Runner 1930's hair and the air full of something that was unfortunately not bigger than it ever became for it was in between all sorts of old (folk, glam-rock) and new emerging musical styles (punk, new wave, ska) and got so badly overlooked. *Sigh*

I was 10 when this came out and I vividly remember my grandma playing this. I think it was the only record she'd ever bought that was in the charts;-)

  • @macintosser

God bless your grand ma - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • wow!

  • It is utterly boggling to me that she sings "they're all the same/the sluts and the saints" on the DINAH SHORE SHOW.

  • wow I did not know that's what she was saying! lol

  • @haineux

Not to mention the "blowin' his mind on cheap grass and wine" line! What a song! Cory Daye is simply captivating.

  • LUV that line @@!

  • This is a trip, mundi. Sean Connery and the band. He didn't know what to expect. Great band and sound. Can there ever be a reunion of the Kid and Mundi and the spectacle of Pond Life?

  • There is so much to love about this. The song is a certified classic. Kid Creole is getting it on guitar!!! Cory Daye has it going on, too.

  • was that sean connery?

  • Best song of the era.

  • i wonder how many kids come here lookin' for the GhostFace Killer song that samples this lol*

  • I absolutey love this song!! A true classic in the entire recording industry!!

  • that vibraphone player is a frigen maniac, i swear he was floating for a second

  • I BELIEV THAT'S COATI!!

  • Where r there now

  • Wow! I'd only seen them on the album cover! What a band. This really brings back memories of listening to this album over and over after school!

  • What memories this brings back! Corey Daye is still fantastic some recent vids of her here on You Tube. They should do a re-issue of this.

  • I LOVE this band's style,the microphone is a very nice touch,their beautiful !!!!

  • Well, here is true talent. This is live, and they are all on the money. The style, the vibe, the lyrics, and the music as fresh and original today as back in the day.

    They pass the test.

When I think of the non talent skank Madonna playing amphitheatres even now, I shake my head at life.

But, of one thing I am certain, cherchez la femme!

  • @abralaventana no not all of it IS live there is a track they are playing to and the vocals piano and vibes are the only thing actually live on this one

close but they fooled you lol

  • @ishredu Thanks for your post but check out the description box - this was performed in mid 70's ...not trying to fool anyone ...Thanks - CM

  • @MundiWorld I know I know I wasn't saying there was any shilling going on just correcting someone who thought the entire tune was live.

btw I love this band, completely unique although I was young when it was new, to me the sound and feel came out of virtually nowhere..great formula and it never gets old..I wonder if a band like this would even have a chance these days

    keep swingin'!

    Kenny....

  • @abralaventana Hi...Thanks for posting .check out the description box to get the 411 on the TV show...also check out my channel for full clips of the band performing live - Although I do not share your comments about Madonna I do respect your opinion and appreciate your sentiments about DBOSB - Cheers & Bee well - CM

  • This is not live. But I would still agree that musically, these people are far more interesting than Madonna. Her band however, are all experienced musicians and people seem to forget that they've been hired to play Madonna's repertoir. That does not mean they do not carry some impressive catalogues, on their own.

I also find we're all better off with Cherchez la Femme.

  • @abralaventana u forgot to mention lady gaga, britney, J-Lo and a multitude of other "pretty faces" with no real value.

  • sigh.......when i was young.....

  • Grew up listening Mom & dad's 78's and was memorized when I heard this song on the radio, thinking, WHAT IS THIS?, the transforming song into a new genre I've been waiting for?

30 years later, I am so sad that the trend never continued and misses these acts. The swing genre of the 90s was really a kind of a noisy Jive-Poser" category of music - nothing like this.

Corey, you are BEAUTIFUL. Your voice/phrasing, the perfect blend for Disco-Swing-Latin fusion!

    Thank you, Mundi!

  • would it be great to have a (genuine) resurgence of mixed genre music? i can't really think of another band off the top of my head that had the "concept-factor" more evident than DBOSB.

    enjoy & remember....

  • Totally agree!

The timing is right, too, and although Stoney is gone (RIP), the rest of the band is still around! I would pay big bucks to see them again in concert!

The Wellmont Theater in Montclair N.J, would be perfect.

  • Were they still making 78s in the 70s? I thought those went out in the 50s.

Your comment about comparing this to the poser swing thing from the 90s is right on. I think "swing" came back in the 90s because of the kaki commercial. Also, it seems that instead of reviving the swing of the 30s, it was just stealing the idea from 70s bands like this.

  • @babaluche1

You are quite welcomed and thanks for sharing your thoughts - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • i like song i loving !!!!

  • 's that Sean Connery?

  • Simply deeeevine.

  • Fantastic! I had the enormous pleasure of seeing this group play live in New York City in 1979. One of my Top 5 concerts of all time.

  • unreal !!!!!!

I love this song and the two albums that they had out and a huge Kid Creole fan. Seeing this made gave me a big smile. Thanks a bunch for posting. Also I thought the singer was black all this time. So much fun. Thanks again.

  • Make that 3 albums. The third, "Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Goes to Washington", on Elektra from 1979, is great too! Not on CD so look for the vinyl.

  • @jrowland67

You are welcomed 2X's .. bee well - Coati Mundi aka Sugarcoated Andy (DBOSB)

  • Wow! I hadn't heard this in eons! Still remember seeing on Dibah Shore Show too as a teen. The years flew by! I will still dance to this awesome song!

  • I remember seeing them on the Mike Douglas show and Cory Daye looked absolutely sexy. She was thinner and was wearing a french beret.

  • I love the fact that there's no lip-syncing here. Even back then that practice was prevalent. I've seen them do it on Lawrence Welk all the time. (That's right. Lawrence welk. Yeah, so?)

  • mega thanks. This is the 1st FULL video of them doing this song live ive seen.

  • oohh...how could i forget Suvannah Band, they were the greatest

  • love that Bronx soul

  • Thanks for the memory as I was in the 8th grade in Brooklyn when this came out & we loved it..

I doubt they were live here but it sounded great & appreciate the posting.

  • The Beautiful Cory Daye!

  • Im just stunned, i have never seen then on any video like this, the again I was in the Army at that time.

  • What a treat! So good to see this. Dear mr. Limelight beneath the piano. Cory swinging like a rocket.

A big Say Hey...from The Netherlands.

    Willem-Jan.

  • You GO Andy...fancifootwork....

hey, who were those two bellhops and were they for show or did they do backup vocals on the album? (again...ALBUM!!)

  • It sounds great .Was this live off the floor? Don't see any mics on the vibes or horns. Ya also gotta love Mr. Darnell's do. Muchas gracias again Senor Hernandez!

  • I remember seeing that when it first aired. August Darnell was such a ham, even then- chewing all kinds of scenery...

One could easily guess the two of you were destined to have long and storied careers. No one had ever seen or heard anything quite like THAT...

The mystery for me always was and always will be Stony Browder, Jr. Anyhow thank you all for three albums, each better than the last, and thanks, Stony (RIP) for "Beatnicks", and thank you Mundi and Kid for all that followed

  • and i first time see Mr.lime light!

very very glad but he is sleeping below piano...

  • why do you have many great rare video!

    you are amazing!!

  • Cool! That´s the first "Buzzard" song I heard.

  • So, so wonderful - thanks again for posting your work.

What was the name of Stony's beautiful dog?

  • Mr.Limelight

  • That was such a great song. It sure had my feet tapping. I remember rushing to get to the dance floor everytime it came on. Just fantastic and Magical is right. Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful... magical...
