  • MAN! This is rare guitar!

  • it used to be called les paul along time ago but Les Paul didn't like it and they already had a les pauk so they took it off and left the les paul name on it, but i just still think les paul, but sg

  • They stopped making Les Pauls in 1959 due to the success of the strat, so they decided to release the "SG" (Solid Guitar) and continued the "Les Paul" motif on release. Due to the iconic name, and Les prototyping their first solid body guitar 10-15 years previous, It was a cheaper alternative to manufacture and it wasn't until they re-released the Les paul body shape again in the 60's that they change fit officially to "SG" and made it it's own guitar. These are now called SG-400 "Les paul."

  • It's an epiphone sg les paul costum

  • dude, its obviously an epiphone sg.... look it up on the internet... lol stop messing around....

  • Oh i thought it was gibson

  • Its supposed to be a replica of the old sg's from way back in the late 50's or early 60's when they changed the les paul model to that. Thats why it says les paul.

  • back in the early 1960'S the SG was originally called the les Paul the name was changed later. The one you have looks like a 1961 reissue

  • And i think it is fake look at the truss rod thing it has 3 screws

  • @XgameboycolorX its an epiphone they have that Gibsons dont

  • It is a Les paul sg custom shop :P

  • what u have is a les paul 2 reissue when the sg first came out it was called the les paul 2 but les paul had nothing to do with the making of the guitar and forced gibson to change the name so it iis now known as an sg.

  • Who is Les Paul???

  • Very nice, your SG.

  • simple solution. it's an SG shape. but it says les paul on it. it's a reissue of a custom from when the SG was still called the les paul. so you can call it whatever you want. most people call them the "les paul SG", but does it really matter? i think this video is in response to all the smartasses trying to look like experts by correcting things that really aren't important or relevant at all.

  • in 60" lp said he wanted a solid, gibson made it and he disliked it alot, so yea.

  • The first sg was called les paul custom you idiot

  • you see guys in 1961 the Gibson decided to make a different model of the Les Paul THE ONE MADE BY TED MCARTNEY so they made it a solid guitar model so Les Paul was like "take my name off that guitar but Gibson decided to keep the early models but Les Paul kinda still liked it so its the Les Paul Epiphone wanted to tag along the model of the sg version of it so its a Les Paul Coustom SO FUCK OFF

  • you see guys in 1961 the Gibson decided to make a different model of the Les Paul so they made it a solid guitar model so Les Paul was like "take my name off that guitar but Gibson decided to keep the early models but Les Paul kinda still liked it so its the Les Paul Epiphone wanted to tag along the model of the sg version of it so its a Les Paul Coustom SO FUCK OFF

  • Your a fuckin' chode. This is most definitely an Epiphone SG G-400 Custom. look it up and I'm pretty sure if you typed in Epiphone SG G-400 Custom it would show this guitar.

  • @bandera818 Im pretty sure if you type in "Epiphone Les Paul Custom Antique Ivory" you will get this guitar aswell.

It was going to replace the current Les Paul but they decided not to and they had already made thousands of guitars so they though what the heck and just sold them.

It was renamed the SG Custom later on. Both names can apply to this guitar.

  • @scrapper1280 Okay but its a G-400. There is no Les Paul G-400. Only an SG G-400.

  • I'm pretty sure the Solid Guitar design carried Les Paul's name for a while before he made Gibson take it off because he didn't like the design...

  • this is a sg custom!!!!

  • Les Paul did not infact invent this guitar..Gibson did. The 1961 model was known as the Les Paul SG Custom. Les Paul himself dislike this guitar so much that he ask Gibson to remove his name from it. And today it's commonly referred to as a SG (Solid Guitar). Les Paul created the guitar know as the log that eventually became the Les Paul guitar when Gibson decided to go into manufacturing with Les Pauls design.

  • in 1961, Gibson introduced the "SG" caling it a Les Paul without Les' authority. He didn't like it, and they changed the name to SG

but when this guitar camed out, it was the Les Paul Custom

  • it was called les paul custom in the 60's

  • That's a Les Paul custom

  • In the early 60' , the LES PAUL , the real LES PAUL guitar was starting to fail .. So Gibson bought out a new design on wich they put the Les paul name , to get the guitar selling again . Les paul , the man , didn't like the new design and asked gibson to take his name of it. Nowadays , that shape is known as a SG !

Now , your guitar is a reissue of an early 60's Les paul custom , an SG shape if you prefer , but historicly that guitar is called a Les paul..

  • Man you shuoud know that the SG was created as an alternative for the Les Paul it first called Les Paul Custom, then Les Paul (the guitarrist who create the les paul) said that isnt the model that he create but gibson had 100 of those gutars with that name so after they give the name of SG and the first model with les paul name is called oficially SG CUSTOM not Les Paul Custom

  • What you're showing is a nice looking guitar but it is not up to the quality that you'd get out of a Gibson custom shop Les Paul/SG. The others are correct, Les Paul invented it and Gibson distributed it, but Les Paul decided against it and had Gibson remove the Les Paul name from it I think after 1963. Save some money, sell what you have here and get the real McCoy... You'll see the difference once you've played it.

  • It's a Les Paul, the only reasopn it's called an SG today is because Les Paul said he didn't want his name on that guitar but these were made in 1961 a little while before he said to take his name off of that guitar.

  • I Was going to leave a comment but i read the other ones. LISTEN TO THESE PPL!!!! Just cuz it says les paul doeant mean its not an sg. If u knew anything about guitars ud know that they used to be the same thing. The ppl who said its an sg r not wrong. But neither were u.

  • It's a Les Paul, a reissue of the the early 60's SG (which was originally marketed as a newer design of the Les Paul.) This design was introduced after the original Les Paul run failed in 1960, in 63 (I think) Les Paul himself asked Gibson to take his name off of the instrument. The instruments of the same style after 1963 are SGs.

  • it's a Lesg :)))

  • It's called Les Paul because the first SGs were called Les Paul until 1963, this must be a reissue of the first SGs with 3 pickups, so it's an SG even if it's written Les Paul

It's Solid huh ? This must be a Solid Guitar then (I know LPs are solid too)

  • I have this guitar and me and my friends would always joke around calling it a Gibiphone LesG.

  • The old Sg's had the les paul sig. on it because at the time they didnt cal them SG's they were called lespauls. later on they started calling them Sg's but this isnt even a real gibson so i call it none of the above

  • that is obviously an SG custom with the words les paul custom on it :P rock on

  • @ThatcooliPodTouch the SG was meant as the continuator of the les paul but was so diffrent in sound that hey made it a separate model thats why old SG's say les paul custom on it

  • it was called a les paul, but les paul didnt like the model so he asked for his name to be taken of it

  • Mate, it's undeniably an SG. Calling it a Les Paul is like insisting a Motorcycle is actually a Push-bike. To explain - the SG was originally a new version of the Les paul, to take over. Les Paul endorsed it at first, but later decided he didn't like it and asked to have his name removed from it, which is why the Les Paul and SG are seperate models. Now, in the Custom models, they try to emulate the original as exactly as possible, which means the same truss rod cover and script on the bridge.

  • I own one like yours and it is a great guitar.Back in '61 Gibson discontinued the original Les Paul design due to bad sales and came up with this as the "New" Les Paul. They didnt even ask Les Paul who really hated the new model and asked for his name to be removed.Thats how the name "SG" for Solid Guitar came up.

  • the sg was a les paul before they called it an sg

  • @motomancr okay i honestly dont give a damn its has a sg body the name of the guitar is an sg but you still try to tell me its a les paul? i understand the fact the in big shiny letters it says les paul but they might of had an alternative reason for putting that on there. it doesnt even look that good anyway it looks like epiphone tried to copy the god of rocks guitar

  • @newbtuber333 Ehm... Les Paul was a master of Jazz and Blues, so more a kind of God of Jazz... or something. And Epiphone make great guitars, so don't diss the Epi. I would say in this case, with the G-400, swap out the pickups and you have something quite probably better than the Gibson SG Special. Anyway, your comment still stands... at least the bits I haven't denied.

  • @TheNeutralFan no hhahaha i meant the god of rock off guitar hero 3

  • @newbtuber333 Lol, fair enough. *Smacks head comically*

  • gitara SG custom ma historyczna wersje Les Paul, dla upamietnienia pana Paula.

Ale to nie zmienia faktu ze to SG. (Poland)

  • Comment removed

  • while standing with the guitar hanging or while singing does it tend to fall on its neck?I have an sg prophecy and it falls on its neck if I don't hold it

  • What we know as an SG was the replacement for the Les Paul, because for some reason nobody was buying Les Paul's in 1959. So Gibson designed a lighter cool looking radical design and they called it the new Les Paul, but there was a problem Les Paul himself hated the guitar so he wanted his name removed from it, but they had already made a ton of those little plastic covers that say les paul so for 3 years they put them on and then stopped in 64'

  • dude your retarded, its an Epiphone SG Les Paul Custom if you got it 2009 its probably like that because Les Paul died.

  • yes you're right but why gibson put les paul name on an sg body??????

  • It's a SG.

SG are called Les Paul SG.

  • sorry dude that is an SG. Those kids telling you it's an sg are right. It is a Les Paul Custom edition SG. It doesn't have the les paul shape, so the guitar isn't a les paul. It only says les paul on your guitar because he created it and they have his name on that edition.

  • @flakemusic13 yeah but a while ago the shape of the guitar and the guitar itself was called the LES PAUL. your fucking stupid.

  • @skatefoshizzle obviously you know nothing about guitars because this is a 1961 Epiphone reissue of the les Paul custom call it what you want but your wrong you really think some one would really go out of their way to replace the truss rod cover and stuff just to confuse people when you can go on guitar center or watch any other vid about this guitar and see that is really called the les Paul custom and not an SG!!!

  • Is this the Antique ivory color?

  • shit dude that action is high as the moon

  • @migasaguiar its as low as it can be without touching the frets

  • that guitar rocks! it costs around 300-350 euro and the sound is really nice and it's really easy to play on.

  • It's a reissue of the Les Paul Custom that Gibson produced between 1961-1963. Gibson changed the body style while keeping the same name in order to stimulate sales. Les Paul didn't like the design, so they decided to rename it an SG (solid guitar). Today, we just call it an SG since it has a distinctly different body than a Les Paul. So in short, its an SG!

  • IN THE 70'S SG'S WHERE CALLED LES PAULS, ITS A RE-ISSUE (i have one)

  • @BenManOwnz In PART of the 60s*, SGs were* called les pauls.

  • the guitar is an SG, the truss cover and that other thing are lespaul custom protecty thingo plates, but it still is a sg, considering its in the shape of an sg, if i put cover plate things on there that said fender strat , it still would be an sg... lespauls kinda look like a semi acoustic guitar without the hollow bit , just sollid wood.

  • it might have already been answered but it is infact an original les paul

the sg was being designed at the time they were making les pauls aswell and after they made the first 100 they took the sg to les paul but he did not like them so they changed the name to sg and i beleived they did that with epiphones aswell and les paul asked them again to change it

  • for all the les paul guys out there. this is a les paul. There was 3 years gibson didnt make les pauls. The new body style was called a Les paul but then they changed it later to SG for solid guitar.they then continued making the les paul original body after that. Its a les paul my friend.

  • its a les paul

in the early 60's the three humbucker guitars where called les paul's

  • eveery sg should be called les paul cuz he invented te solid body guitars for gibson

there was another one that make that earlier with fender and the telecaster nmodel i think

  • Everyone STFU! It's a fucking Les Paul Custom because it's a 60's Les Paul Custom reissue! It may have an SG body but its technically a Les Paul.

  • In the early 60ies a SG was a les paul custom. later they renamed it as an SG.

The guitar is a vintage remake, so it's an les paul custom.

  • That's clearly a Les Paul! You can see it.

  • Lester Paulfoss invented the Les Paul guitar, manufactured by Gibson. Gibson decided to then put the "Les Paul" name, on its new models of guitars, being the Gibson "SG"s, which stood for Solid-body Guitar, however Lester Polfuss, did not like these guitars and demanded that his name was taken off of them. The Gibson Sg model was never a Les Paul, and that name was only placed on it as a marketing tool, custom or standard. Your model SG is an Epiphone, and the farthest thing from a Les Paul.

  • this is a Ephione Sg G-400 Custom it is a remake of the orinial sgs that Les paul designed and had a custom model of originaly called an les paul he wasent proud with the name so he had them take his name off it soon renamed sg... im sick of people hearing the words les paul and thinking of the guitar not the player

  • @caroffcliff and if you dont belive me look in ephiones online catalogue its with all the sg's

  • its an sg dumbass! its says gibson les paul custom because in the early 60's i think, the 3 humbucker version belong to les paul ! but its a sg, cant you see the shape? -.-

  • For the most part your guitar is a Les Paul Custom; modeled after the 1961-62 (a few 63s) Le Paul Custom. If it had the sideways vibrato, it would be an even better reproduction. Sometime in 1963 Gibson dropped the Les Paul name and called it SG. I have an Epiphone G-400 in cherry with Maestro. It is more similar to the 1963 SG Standard so I call it an SG, not a Les Paul. I had a 1961 Les Paul Standard and sure as heck wish I still did. Sold it around 1971 or so.

  • It's clearly an SG but I think the neck is from a Les Paul

  • esa mamada, jajajaa es mas introduccion que otra mamada jaja

  • its a sg. it has the same exact stuff on the gibson version of this guitar, the les pauls on the headstock and above the pick ups. although it is an epiphone it is a quality guitar and epiphone did not rip you off. it is a nice guitar be happy

  • this guitar its an sg, but les paul invented it so it's normal that in the custom shop of this brands they put his name in the head of it, like slash in his les paul's so men what your problem? LOL

  • @CatalanGuitarrist les paul did not "invent" this guitar bro

  • @motomancr yea he did thats why its called a les paul CUSTOM he customized an sg stupid fuck get a life

  • @motomancr erm.. yes les paul did, but then he didnt like it so he made gibson take his name off it.

  • that's an SG man, Les Paul created this guitar because in the original Les Paul guitar wasn't easy to reach the final frets, and he invented this, but that's an SG, with Mr.Les Paul sign in the head of it, that's just the name of the inventor

  • @motomancr

    actually he did....

and it's an sg style not les paul.

  • @motomancr

Back in the 50s this was a LP Yh nower days it is an SG!!! So dont say it isnt cuz it is!

  • @DjJoeee so? yamaha makes guitars with a strat shaped body. when i see one i dont call it a strat i call it a peice o shit yamaha.

  • @motomancr

But u shouldnt compare yamaha with Epiphone or Gibson Yamaha is like wussy boy comparing to that sh1t

  • @CatalanGuitarrist

Yeah Les Paul; hated the design and told Gibson to remove his name from it.

  • @CatalanGuitarrist thats not at all why it says lp on the head

  • @motomancr

    you are an idiot bro.

  • @motomancr Its an SG G400 CUSTOM, it says Les Paul Custom because back on the 1960's the SG's were going to be the Les Paul's but Les Paul didn't accept it , so its kind of like a tribute, and Im pissed off because the Les Paul Custom from Epiphone (actual les paul custom) is like 700dlls and this one is almost the same, same neck, binding, even the name, and with 3 pickups and I still can't balieve it's just 500dlls when the other Les Paul Custom is 700, why fucking epiphone overprices!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @CatalanGuitarrist Dude Les Paul didn't invented the Sg....The Story is that when these guitars appeared Gibson put Les Paul's Name on the Head stock...Then Les Paul was something like GET MY NAME OF THOSE GUITARS!!!

  • @CatalanGuitarrist Les Paul didn't invent the SG. He hated SGs

  • @CatalanGuitarrist fuck off, :L, gibson designed it, Les Paul didn't like it, thats why they changed the name to the SG and went back to producing the origional Les Paul,

  • @CatalanGuitarrist No Les didn't invent this. But Gibson put his name on it then he got mad at Gibson.

  • dude u cant trust epiphone!!!!!!!!get this model as a gibson and find out the truth!!!!!!!!

  • they were called les pauls until les paul told gibson(epiphone) to take his name off of it

  • no guys its a les paul custom, back in the days les paul agreed to put his name on the sg style guitar, therefore it is a les paul its not a knock off

  • mate its a Les pual sg (designed by Les pual)

  • it is an Epiphone replica of an early Gibson SG

  • Dude that's a knock off u must have bought that from a black market or something. All I can say is that's not Les Paul. It's a SG 400. I would seriously go and get my money back if I were you.

  • sgs were called les pauls in the 60s and you should really listen to better music

  • who gives a shit anyway??

  • I like that colour it looks really nice. I've got the exact same guitar but 'Alpine White' and a maestro tail peice

  • SG YOU RETARD!

  • douche.

  • what are the inlays made of

  • Its is a les paul because from 1961-1963 these were produed under the name of "les paul". Eventually les paul changed it because he hated the guitar.

  • if its an REALLY old guitar it is called les paul... the first sg guitars were called les pauls but les paul didnt like the guitar so they changed the name...

  • I got this guitar. It is Les Paul custom

  • It's a Les Paul Custom. In 1961 Gibson came out with the SG style body. But it was known as a Les Paul. They changed the name to SG after Les Paul didn't approve of the design I think

  • Which is actually why the current Les Paul Custom models have the 3 pickup configuration, and the double diamond design on the headstock.

  • "Which is actually why the current Les Paul Custom models have the 3 pickup configuration, and the double diamond design on the headstock."

Sorry, that's incorrect. About 95% of the current Les Paul Customs have TWO pickups. Only a few have three... including the 1957 "Black Beauty" reissue, and the Peter Frampton and Ace Frehley signature models.

  • I think for a brief moment in guitar history The "SG" was a Les Paul, like for one year I think until Les Paul his name off of them.

  • it is an Epiphone SG Les Paul Custom...

  • you should get your money back. im about 98 percent sure its a knock off. ill look into it for you

  • Dude...If Gibson Owns epiphone and says its a historically recreation than its not a rip-off

  • @yeaokmike its not. its a reissue. in the early sixties it was called a Les Paul.

  • Its not a les paul custom, its not an sg custom its a pieace of shit epiphone!!!

  • its a les paul custom and its far from a peice of shit u obviously dont know anything about guitars so please dont comment on my video anymore

  • i'll admit that it isn't a bad guitar but i do hav a gibson sg 61

  • same here i have explorers les pauls sg's an ibanez jem all togeather ive got atleist 40 guitars idk i lost count about 10 years ago but this is still a great guitar and it plays way different than a regular sg

  • how does it compare to a gibson lespaul/sg custom

  • how does what compare?

  • how does a epiphone sg custom compare to a gibson sg custom

  • there both great guitars but the gibson definitely has more of a classic tone play wise i like the epiphone better it has a different feel to it

  • wrong retard, its amazing, and it was a piece of art in the early 60's

  • they first sg they named it after les paul(the guitarist). However he did not like the design and made gibson change the name. Thus gibson used the name sg (solid guitar). This how the sg was orignially intended and thus reissuing how they were originally intended.

  • cool. i'll buy a flying v and put the explorer sign on it, BAM! i have an explorer

  • lol true but there was a time when les pauls really did look like this i didnt just put a les paul sign on it

  • yeah i know. the sg is an advanced version of the the LP. gibson started to sell SGs and stopped to produce LPs but people kept asking for LPs so they build both SGs and LPs.

    as far as i know.

btw when did you buy this guitar?

  • It aint even a Gibson so it can't be a SG so calling it a Les Paul is absurd.

  • @metal4life68 stupid shit gibson owns epiphone

  • @JCBkingg so i knew that it still isn't a Gibson. Have you played a Gibson. There is a big difference in sound and playability.

  • how ignorant are u ? gibson and ep are the same company just 2 diff names and alot of their stuff between the 2 are the same. ALSO SG and Les Paul are guitar TYPES from BOTH gibson and ep. just like a strat is NOT just fro mfender but u can have a xxxxxx strat. jeez

  • @j1mbafr0sty It may look like a SG but it doesn't play the same. I own one so I know.

  • @j1mbafr0sty are not the same company's.you are ignorant and arrogant!

  • wait ALSO this guitar ORIGINALLY was made BY gibson and called it a les paul speical and THEN EP (same company) made it as a REISSUE

  • @j1mbafr0sty no way

  • @metal4life68 of course are very different

  • @JCBkingg Gibson owns epiphone but are two different company's

  • the SG used to be named the Les Paul until Les Paul got mad because he didnt actualy design it

  • Yes, of course is a SG, but with Les paul neck, do u understand? Les Paul designed that nick to Les Paul guitar, but Gibson add that neck to this model, sou u have an SG, not a Les Paul... That guitar is SG Custom!!! Les Paul is just the signature of the neck and nothing more...

  • no! the LPC was made as a cheeper alternative to the LP, but without LP knowing. when shown the guitar, he dismissed it and requested that his name was removed from the headstock. It was re-named the sg, but like you sorta say, they continued to use the les paul custom necks (It is a completely different neck profile to the les paul so you are wrong!) because they had already made a load of them, so basically the sg is a les paul custom, and this guitar is the reissue of the original.

  • In 1961 this guitar WAS called a Les Paul. But Les Paul himself didn't like the new design & they changed it to "SG." The reissue guitars you see these days (like the one in this video) are called "Les Paul Custom SGs." Or "SG Custom Les Pauls," or, like you said, simply "SG Customs."

  • It s a reissue of a 1961, But in the early 60's they called it a les paul custom but now they are called sg(solid guitar)

  • if ur sick of the guitar ill buy it off u 4

    $250

  • it's an SG, it used to be called a " new les paul custom" the SG is based on the les paul. The name was changed from "new les paul custom" to "SG" later on.

  • back in the 60's or 70's, i forget, they had the les paul, but people were going for fender, so the made the les paul as a double cutaway and a lot lighter, and it was the "new les paul", but later they called it the SG.

  • If it wasn't called a reissue it would be an SG but considering its a reissue they have to use its ORIGINAL NAME which is Les paul custom.

  • it is a les paul the whole thing about it and y it has a sg body okay after the success of the original les paul gibson thought sales would be even better if they modified the body shape they did this behing les pauls back a few mounths after production les paul seen the new gibson lespaul he hated it and asked gibson to rename it and then it became know as the sg

  • i lie i dont know exactly how long they made those things.

  • well oh course this isn't nearly the worth of a gibson modle. but like espplectrum stated they were originally gibson les paul sg customs. they were made because the les paul were increibly heavy so they came out with the les paul sg(solid guitar). they actually only make these for abot 10 years or so. my grandpa actually has an original.

  • in 1960 they called the sg also les paul this is a epiphone les paul custom 1960

  • you stupid , it's an epiphone G400 custom Antic Ivory (it's not even a gibson , its the replic of gibson custom sg )! so stfup sucker it ain't a LP.

  • You people are dumb!

Havent you ever heard os switching out the plates that say "Sg" or "Les Paul".....

Its as easy as unscrewing th original plate out and putting and screwing in a difffrent one.

By the way , its called a SG-3.....because of the 3 pick ups!!

  • hey dumbass its called a les paul custom because in the early 60's it was a les paul custom but once les paul himself found out about this guitar and how he had nothing to do with the design he complained about it so gibson renamed this guitar and named it the SG standing for Solid Guitar

  • yeah its a les paul custom.

  • Well, maybe Les Paul himself wanted an SG for him. So, he just got his name on it. Kinda like a signature guitar-.

  • it still has an SG shaped body

  • FENDER ESQUIRE!!!

  • cherry 8605 is almost totally correct. They may have had left over plates but Gibson originally designed the SG as a lighter version of the Les Paul. For a little while it was called the Les Paul but people didn't think it was the same guitar. So they changed the name to SG or "Solid Guitar."

  • It's a fraking epiphone SG idk where the whole its a "les paul custom" crap is coming from... Nice post cherry8605 :)

    Thumbs up if you agree!

  • :O the first thing i noticed was ATTACK ATTACK!!!

  • The Full story is that they introduced this Doublecut Les Paul in 61' but Lester Paul (R.I.P.) said that he had nothing to do with that guitar shape so they changed the model name to SG(Solid Guitar). SO technically its a Les Paul Custom REISSUE, but the model would be an SG.

  • thats most def an sg. the sg was a REdesign of the LP for 1
