Absolutely one of the most incredible arrangements of music that I've seen to date. Pathetic that there are only 3000 views on this. That number needs a couple more zeroes on the end of it ;D
Wow, I'm trying really hard to come up with the music on the piano without the sheet music. Did you have sheet music or did you learn it by ear? because it's absolutely fluent, like speech! Just stunning!
@GeorgettoSpahgetto I learned this piece by ear, although I didn't quite get it perfect; the second chord of the bridge ("Don't start me trying now") that I play is not quite what Elliott plays on the recording. I messed around with a few different chords and looked it up online, but in the end the B/C# (rough estimate) is what I went with for that spot. Thanks for listening!
@GeorgettoSpahgetto - just study up theory, chords, improvisations and you'll be able to do the saying. It looks like a lot, but it's not really....I USE TO THINK THE SAME BEFORE I TOOK A JAZZ IMPROV CLASSES....
THIS IS CHILD'S PLAY COMPARED TO WHAT COULD BE DONE WITH THIS KIND OF MELODY. HE'S USING REAL BASIC MAJOR / MINOR ARPEGGIOS UP AND DOWN
This is the most original and best interpretation of a instrumental cover of elliott smith. You are amazing, keep making beautiful music for us to enjoy. Thanks for this.
@Flingflungflungfling Thank you, I'll work on a video "how to" in addition to some new arrangements I am putting together, and will post them in the next few weeks.
I taped down the key so it would ring at the beginning and end of the song, to emulate the way Elliott recorded the song. If there is fuz, it is probably from Youtube encoding. Check the MP3, it should be higher-quality. Thanks for the compliments!
Hey man, great cover. I will be picking up a CP70B later this month, and I was just curious what you used to record this. Was it right out of the XLRs? or through an amp of some sort?
The sound you are getting sounds far closer to a regular piano than a lot of the CP demos on here, but I am sure the lack of tremolo may be a factor.
its nice to hear this piano used to play stuff from an artist I like, most of the demos on here are of keane, which gets a bit old.
Thank you very much, glad you liked it. Neato on the CP70B, congrats! I use the XLR outputs directly into a Presonus Firestudio Project. I did a little bit of post-processing, mostly just rolling off the lows and a little bit of reverb.
@pressureofdays Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it. I'm working on another Elliott cover that I should have some time to record and upload this week hopefully.
I really loved your interpretation of Between The Bars, I find it way more "sensitive" than Christopher O'Reilly's one in his tribute album Home to Oblivion. I downloaded the MP3 almost immediatly. Great quality, by the way.
And, of course, I'd love to have the MP3 of that track as well.
Just bought your album on iTunes.
Great work, 'Angeles' as well as your own work.
Thanks a lot!

Your arrangement is just perfect
You even think of the high note in the whole song, with you two high piano strings
=)
I love those kind of details ! ;)
