  • This helped me understand the game as a whole. Thanks.

  • Thanks! Memorized the game by just watching the game ONCE, made me open my eyes to more sharp attacks like this :-D

    Nazurea ;-)

  • ty this helped a lot!

  • Wait slow down please

  • I think he allways plays with Black

  • @badslabber it is for beginner. It's quite simple. You're the only one that find this complicated. It'll be more complicated at higher stage

  • DUDE RENAME YOUR VIDEO THIS IS NOT A "HOW TO" VIDEO FOR CHESS.

  • wow i had no idea there was so much history of chess matches.... waste of life? yes

  • i really like this method.. thank you :).

  • And this is for beginners. E5 to pawn ? Lost

  • I have a small question. look at 2:11 . I think that opponent would go to 7b , not to 6c with pawn?

  • did you hear the class laugh at 0:22?

  • @miles7038

    o.O no one laughed...

  • Honestly, I used to think this game is for nerds. Now I find it quite fascinating.

  • thanks. well done.

  • Quite helpful. Thanks ;)

  • WOW, he truly explains it very well, awsome teacher !

    Thank you !

  • THIS GUY NEEDS TO BACK UP A BIT ,how the hell is this for beginners , :(

  • thnx brutha

  • If your serious about wanting to learn the game of chess i would highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of chessmaster grandmaster edition,it will explain the rules and tackies better than anyone on youtube

and takes years to learn ,,but just remember its only a game and that 1000's of people have already devoted there lives to it and i'm sorry to say that some have even gone mad !!! stop telling me i cant move thing with my mind you dont no till you try i said :)

  • O_o How is this for BEGINNERS????

  • @WonderWomn87 Morphy was a genius, but the tactics are simple to explain and the limited number of pieces in play with black at any one time make it relatively strategically simple from a teaching standpoint. It's a great exemplar game to use to start discussing tactics and strategy, and the speaker does a very good job explaining.

  • @WonderWomn87 Yeah! How is this for BEGINNERS!?

  • @ugleland

    shut up

  • @WonderWomn87 u get me

  • @WonderWomn87 teaches defence and aggresion

  • I'm new to chess but it looks like red had the advantage when he moved the king then the rook to d1 in one move..@ 3:31

  • @MrRolo3315 Its called castling, moving the king two squares in the direction of the rook and placing the rook on the other side. Only works if the two pieces haven't moved and the king isn't being attacked.

  • your amazing im having a chess club at school

  • did this guy seriously memorize that?!

  • oh ok

  • I came here clueless about the game of chess and wanting to learn, but this guy just totally confused me. Worst instructional vid ever.

  • @DowJones19 He's apparently not trying to teach you how to play chess in this video, he's using a played chess game as an example how players should utilise all their pieces.

  • @DowJones19 i know, this just got me more confused..

  • @DowJones19 this isnt intoduction. this is a review of a game that was played 100 years ago by three dudes.

  • my problem with chess is a play is if no piece is expendable besides the pawns and i should try and protect all the pieces even if that mean breaking my strategy :( haha

  • wow nice move but i still have problem with it my father still b me my s on the game

i think i need to go school for it, so i could b is s he won all the times.

  • huh?!

  • i understand that, but i've been playing for 6 years, wtf is wrong this guy you can't show off if no one knows what your going on about

  • looks like a very good way to beat your opponant, but i still wont be able to remember it all :P

  • ace!

  • Oh yeah baby, talk chess to me!

  • @CarlosAVilla i know what you mean. I used to have this problem but after playing and practicing often, I eventually learnt how to think up a long term plan, and if you continue to practice, you'll eventually learn to think, 5, 10 maybe up to 15+ moves ahead. Thats how you win matches, by having a long term plan. :)

  • the last move was wrong

if the rook went there and its the black turn the king kick the rook out right

  • @TheThien123456 bishop was protecting the rook so no

  • Awesome.

  • Wow

This game was so simple... As he said, casual. And yet I would not even be able to play this good. Not even close even though every tactic and the strategy is something even I could do

  • @Bumperpegasus simple because he explained ... after all of it i forgot everything

  • I like that castle move on the left side. You see it so rarely done in pick up games at the park bench, but oddly all of the greates seem to do it very often.

  • why couldn't he move the king down one to keep the game going?

  • @CarlosIsDown Because the bishop would of been able to of taken it.

  • @brraaaaaaaaaaap oh ._.

  • @CarlosIsDown yeah thats what I want to know too

  • @CarlosIsDown the bishop was on that diagonal(g-5), protecting the rook and preventing the king's escape.

  • Thank you brother from another mother

  • very nice

  • spank the ass

  • Amazing video. It sums up a bunch of chess knowlegde that I had to research around a lot in just one video.

Learning chess as a beginner is so hard. I have a bunch of basic concepts already, but I can't turn them into effective weapons in a match. I develop pieces for instance, but then what? lol

  • @mateopumba747 you can tell he is reading off a sheet, he is looking off to the side instead of into the camera

  • Black is in such a bad position xD

  • This is a demonstration game for beginners. It's suppose to teach you opening principles like piece development and castling early and the price you pay by not doing so. Morphy took full advantage of the Duke and Counts noobish play. Both sides start out properly with king-pawn openings. After Morphy plays Ng1-f3, the Duke and Count play d7-6 to defend the e5 pawn which is a very timid defense; Nb8-c6 would be better because not only do you defend the e5 pawn but you bring a knight into the

  • ok, if this video is for beginners, what would you call someone who has never played a game of chess but is trying to learn the rules and basics first?

i watched that and had no clue what was going on. i'm thinking that chess might be too complicated for me to learn and i should just to back to playing Reversi.

  • @JubeProductions

Just look for a video that covers the rules and basics. The rules and basics of chess are very simple really.

  • i thought we were gonna learn how to set up the pieces and the rules like how each kind of piece can move

  • @mateopumba747 he's a teacher. that must not be his first time diplaying that game.

  • As a beginner that has definitely taught me to sacrifice pieces. Something that I don't do. Anyone with an iPhone and fancies a game let me know

  • Son of a gun. This thing actually gave me a headache from thinking.

  • why is there pregnency information on the suggestion bar?

  • Woh Woh WOHHHHHHHH..........did you know that i once met a chick with hairy aeriolas??? True story, i swear!

  • I can learn from this teacher

  • Its not supposed to teach u how to play its supposed to teach u fundamentals and strategies

  • how a beginner is supposed to learn play chess from this video?come on.be serious

  • Thank you sir very very much , you are a excellent teacher !!!

  • As a chess player, you tend to learn some new things from observing the games of better, more experienced players. I was able to pick up a few things from this game.

  • I'm just going to memorise all these moves and hope that I win with my 1/1000000000000000000 chance of the game occuring this exact way.

  • Hi i'm Fritz Gasfart

  • imma stick to checkers for now.... :F

  • lol morphy was playing under 700 rated players :P their moves are definately noobish

  • HUUUUUU

  • wat i dont get! >:O

  • what the hell

  • 3 person chess anybody?

  • this is cool but how dose this help playing chess

  • @mateopumba747 when you love something for so long and stare at it for years upon years and teach it you will remember it, or he might of had a monitor intront of him telling him the moves

  • @mateopumba747 when you love something for so long and stare at it for years upon years and teach it you will remember it, or he might of had a monitor intront of him telling him the movies.

  • I'll stick to Checkers.

  • @mateopumba747 Dude isn't it obvious , hes black xD

  • @mateopumba747 dude, there are a lot of chinese guys do the same thing like what he does

  • @mateopumba747 he probably has an IQ of 150

  • @mateopumba747 Analyze, Understand, then memorize. I bet you can memorize this game in about a month MAX if you did that for 1 hour a day.

  • @mateopumba747 yeah thats what I thought at first but its actually not that hard

  • *^* omg thank you

i am a begginer and i always open my games in this way

but i don't know how to move on ~ and attack ~

now i see the game more clearly! :D

  • i thought this was a tutorial for beginners...not a replay of famous game...

  • @UntoldDarkness66 Read the title again. This video is a chess instructor telling you what games are good for learning. "Morphy's Mate" is a fantastic game for beginner's to study because it uses all pieces on attack, shows a great (though losing) defense, and the thought process and calculations are clear enough to be explained easily to a student. Also, instructors use famous games to teach chess because they really happened, and add a human element to the game.

  • @mateopumba747 Most of the moves in this game are considered 'book moves', meaning the first 5-9 turns will usually be the same depending on the opening. Furthermore, we study entire games to measure the weight of moves to create strategies. Excellent memory and foresight are keys to the game of Chess.

  • wow he is really good at explaining the game :D

  • @mateopumba747 It's a study, i learned some openings, i will never forget, like this one:

    Scholar's mate, it's on wiki.

i will never forget that one.

    regards,

  • Who is this guy, the black Bobby Fischer? And I agree with the top comment.....How did he remember the entire game?

  • How can I make a board like this?? Looks pretty slick.

  • @str8out Caskets

  • @str8out Caskets, Think Australia ;-)

  • this guy is amazing, but i still have no idea how to play chess :P

  • @HawaiiRiceBall hhahaa

  • This is great. This dude is a beast no wonder he teaches Chess at schools.

  • this does not help

  • Wow, this gave me a TOTAL new look on chess lol

  • dude you moved the black twice...u suk what really happened during the game? see 1 min.black bishop then you moved the black pawn

  • @Mrperplex1 lol No he didn't. It does look like that, but he just moves it cause white captures it.

  • @Scarecrowman27 @ 3:30 why did he move the king and rook in the same move?..try'n to learn.

  • @MrRolo3315 That's called Castling in chess. The king is only able to move one space at a time. However the ONLY time the king can move more then one space is when you switch the rook and the king from their starting positions. You can only do the "Castle move" if both pieces have not been moved yet. In other words that has to be both pieces first move as seen in the video. The move is used to better protect your king in the early game and to develop the rook piece.

  • @Mrperplex1 Oh no he didn't

  • what the hell.......Beginners!!!...........to b honest i was amazed with the game then that make me a baby in world of chess

  • there is a huge mistake because he plays black two times...after he plays the black bishop he plays one more time the black pawn.

    see at 1.00 minute.

he is not a very good teacher ;) :P

  • @zambesis Huge mistake by you to try learning chess man, guess your brain couldn't follow the flow and you ended up really confused lol

    not a very good student ;) :P D:

  • @zambesis No he doesn't ..... He captures the pawn, he looks like he moved it, but he only moves it to get it off the board. Look again.

  • Wow this teacher is amazing. Awesome. Thank you, this helps me a lot.

  • Brilliant! But for beginners?

  • hows this for beginners????????

  • queens sacrifice....anyone read the Westing Game?

  • Holy shit.

The way he explains it with personification makes it much more.. real. More interesting. I actually want to play more and think of strategies now. I wish there were some place to play online..

  • @AncilBooru go to chess.com, you can play live chess with people all over the world.

  • @mateopumba747 It's familiarity. When you are involved with something a lot, your capacity to remember things becomes easier. Like I can memorize large chunks of music very easily, and read it like you would your own language, likewise veteran chess enthusiasts can memorize many moves and read the game very quickly and easily.

  • dis guy should be doin the new

  • @mateopumba747 Man its easy trust me..... if you study one game for a whole hour everything will come to you.

  • That was an excellent video. Great job of explaining that game!

  • Wow that's great. Thanks.

  • after the black bishop pinned the knight on f3 wasn't it the red color's turn? Red skipped its turn and black captured the pawn on d4... sorry I'm new to chess.

  • TACOS!

  • GENIUS

  • wonderful

  • Dear Sir, you have done a very fine job explaining this legendary Morphy-win. Thank you!

Maybe it would be useful to ask the viewers to find the mate in 3 by themselves and give them a pause for doing so.

Morphy-games are ideal to teach chess for beginners, because he showed the importance of fast development, how to build up a favorable position and taking advantage of it by tactical means and exact calculation. Morphy was ahead of his time. The game was played in the Opera of Paris in 1858.

  • Brilliant! : )

  • he looks very friendly ! i would like him to be my teacher

  • @darthd95 He used to teach me. I would like to say, with all my bias, that he is one of the best.

  • though i do know this game. i agree its a good game for beginners to understand the importance of both development and dynamic play with the minor pieces. not to mention exploiting pins and overloaded pieces.

  • at 1:54 why didnt white capture blacks pawn at b7??? He would then also take blacks rook!

  • @KripDrip If the queen takes the pawn then Qb4+ forces the exchange of queens.

  • @mateopumba747

most likely he is looking at the move list off screen.

  • I like the board; how its made of paper.

  • im very curious. im thinking about learning chess but what exactly are the benefits? im an aspiring entrepreneur, would this in any way help me achieve that? also what type of people play chess? rich successful educated people? (thats what i think).

  • @Amber2hip2058 but if the king does not go out into battle how does he expect his subordanants to follow?

  • Very informative. This will greatly improves my chess skills. Keep up the good work!

  • I love Candy land!....sorry this is Chess....I love chess!!!

  • woah...that morphy guy or hwo ever to spell his name...plays like me...Know the trap plan to checkmate....just sacrifice lol

  • going to have to watch this vid a couple times, too many counters and traps for a noob like me to appreciate or begin to set up and try myself.

  • I have never seen a vertical chess board with pockets before. a very nice idea indeed. i think ill go out and buy some materials and see if i can make one.

  • nice video

  • thank you love it............

  • nice match, a lot of sacrifices

  • @Squeaky4CC he made a move called "castle the king", it's a defensive move that hides the king behind one of the rooks.

  • this seriously has nothing to do with "how to play", it's just an old school epic game. Cool though.

  • @lakotausa if you can see the thinking behind the moves then you are clearly not a moron (at least not in chess anyway).

  • great for beginners

  • nice video

  • Thank you, teacher. Making me fall in love again with the game.

  • ????????????

  • my response: What?

  • at 1:56, why didnt white just capture blacks free pawn at b7? Not only would he get a free pawn but he would also take blacks rook and possibly his knight on the next move!

  • @tatomuck18 Because, if he takes on b7, Blacks queen goes to e4 with check. And any response other than if white's queen takes means that white loses his queen. And then the black bishop takes the queen with a second check, at which point its almost equal. That move isnt really as good as it seems, but it accomplishes something.

  • @stevorw Lol, I mean B4

  • Wow, that guy got wrecked. Good game!

  • great video

  • Ok...... I am now more confused than ever :(

  • @p250lama aww poor baby keep whining

  • 3rd time watching this vid

i suck at chess, not to mention i don't play, but this vid is interesting lol

  • I don't understand something.

In 4:51, why can't the King move one space to the left and take the Rook?

In 1:05, why didn't the Knight capture the Bishop on g4?
