@MrXrepublican - LOL Actually the dog was trained with a lot of motivation (toy/food), and knows that if he gives the behaviors desired, he gets rewarded. And he'll do anything for his reward. A dog can be taught to put it's head down in a long down using food/toy just as easily as compulsion, if not easier.
This is a great looking dog. I can really appreciate this now that i have a Mal. Very hard to keep focused. nice work. Lots of energy- tail wagging, and attentive. love it.
Rewarding your puppy for bad behavior can lead you down the wrong road. I still stand by my opinion of making yourself the leader in your dog's eyes. Dogs are pack animals and look up to the pack leader. If your puppy tried to defend his/her food in front of its alpha dog, what do you thing would happen? The alpha would growl, bark, bite or all three. This is not something that makes the situation a negative one. Since we do not agree, I would seek out a third opinion and then continue from there.
you're not rewarding your puppy for growling. you are treaching your puppy that there is nothing to growl about. you can go on punishing your dog for things. however you will never achieve the best relationship possible. The dog dosen't understand that he us being punished for growling. the dog knows that when you come near the food bowl bad things happen. Now he has 2 reasons to growl. 1 because your trying to steal his food and 2 because your going to punish him
pt 2) Im saying this because i am a certified dog trainer and I have seen the punishment method cause aggression many times. A pack leader is someone who shows a good example for the pack. being calm and teaching the dog to react correctly in strange suituations. No you don't have to scruff, shock, pin down, hit, or yell to get your dog to listen or to stop a behavior. And remember when you feed the dog out of your hands the dog won't be growling because there is no bowl involved.
I have a "pack" of 7 dogs, and we go to my uncle's who has 11 siberians, total of 18 dogs, and I don't have to be an alpha to make my dogs obey. They know that I lead, but never have I used alpha role on ANY of my dogs. I also worked with alot of wolfdogs, and never did I need to play alpha role.
The alpha role can cause disaster, dogs are more entitled to challenge the Alpha.
Also, never have any of my dogs growled or bitten any of each other. A single stare is enough.
being protective over objects is natural. show the dog that human hands only make things better. get rid of the bowl. the dog eats out of people's hands ONLY! The dog needs to earn his own bowl. Once he does put treats in the bowl while he eats. While taking something out of his mouth present him a treat.(something good like meat) its very important that you nip this behavior in the butt.
We had a little trouble with our also but now he's perfect. You must become the leader in his eyes asap.
First, when you feed him pretend to eat the food from his bowl before you offer it to him. Correct him verbally with a sharp "ah, ah" if he doesn't approve. If all else fails, you might have to go with a light shock collar when he's a little older. Make sure you follow the directions and you shouldn't need to do it often.
It's critical to show you're the boss but be fair.
Actually thats heading down the path of destruction. if the dogs realises that when people come near his bowl he feels pain or gets introubble you're going to make this behavior way worse than it already is. You need to show the dog that humans only give or make things better. dominating the dog will not allow you to make a stronger bond and trust with your dog.
This dog is a robot. A lot of force training is used. Notice the chin on the ground during the platz.

@boxofsarpobjects1 certifications are a sham. I can charge $100 for a printed certificate and you will be a "certified" dog trainer.

@dooggyloover E Collars have their place when used with dogs that need to have an off leash recall.

Working to forward to heel! But at least you have managed to produce a very well motivated dog! Good Luck!

Geez, that is some good training! I would get annoyed though if my dog was 1/2 in front me the entire time.
