    Awesome !

    Great Mike Scott !

  • Magic one of the greatest songs to come out of the eighties

  • great vid :)

  • nice wicked nice peculiar

  • Una de las cosas mas bonitas que he visto en mi vida.

    I'M CRYING

  • This guy is a real cat's meow.

  • The kids know the lyrics. Awesome. Shoot Bieber NOW.

  • what a classic brings back some great memories thanks for the upload

  • search on "wrenne whole of the moon" and there's a new version by a new artist, Wrenne, that Mike Scott said gives him "goosebumps, can't ask for more".....

  • fantastic

  • This is the best version of this song ever... Ever, in the history of the world... well, after this song was written anyways, but after that... EVER!

  • Superb singer. Brilliant song! Loved this song the first time round and still love it now. Lucky, lucky, lucky lucky lucky kids!! Thanks a million for posting.

  • Lucky kids!

  • @datsyhoehoe I agree, watching a great song, near best of the 80's.

  • I was reduced to tears watching this vídeo!

  • I just spent £300 to hear this live

it was more than worth it

  • That's the coolest thing ever. That. That thing there just makes me have confidence in the human kind. That's real love on all parts

  • Amazing!

  • how unfair?!!!!

  • Wo war ich...? unglaublich!

  • Kids with good taste in music! rare nowadays, with Biebers and montana´s

  • Raw & Live,Rare,Brilliant,love it x

  • Masterpiece.

  • Meant to say the Scots and English in the band should have one automatically. See them on Vintage TV Channel 369.

  • True professionals. The kids will remember this for the rest of their lives. Our queen should give them a knighthood just like Terry Wogan and Bob Geldof even if they are Irish. A credit to their country.

  • Hands down, this is one the best songs ever written. In my life, I have "loved" a lot of music...many songs I can call favorites, but THIS song floats through my head every time I find myself getting depressed...and it stops the horrible feelings right away. Thanks Mike, for writing such a magnificent song.

  • Wish that was my school.

  • what a magical reaction by those younger ones as this sing-along began.........nice one Mike Scott......this is the future leaders listening......and your karma seems to remain positive ....thus...may YOU stay forever young.....too!

  • Lets get back to having live music on television and radio, music recorded live, warts and all. This is brilliant and very brave.

  • Simplicity is the best thing ever when it comes to music. This guy proves it with so much confidence, we should make him president of the music industry as a whole. Utterly phenominal

  • tingle down the spine. wish he played my school!

  • I hear no sound!! why???

  • @Stefanos29 mute button?

  • This makes me smile he seems like a nice man. The kids are loving it. Come on teachers this is a great song

  • magic!

  • Punaise tu m'étonnes que les petits british aient une super culture musicale.

  • Agree. two guys, a piano and a penny whistle...more powerful than any boy bands or modern-day chewing-gum for the ear!! Rock-on fellas!!

  • Love the rock star exit at the end " Must ave been opening time at Hughieees

  • He still turns up in Galway. I saw him in the Roisin Dubh last year. He was watching Mundy I had a quick chat with him and bought him a Bally Gowan water. A real nice man to have a chat to. He has a lot of contacts in the west.

  • @TheSeanieboy ,, Tell Mike a would love to see him on Arranmore Island .... Theres loads o scots there . lol

  • I loved this simple sing-along...wonderful poetry. These kids are having a ball.

  • I have listened to this song a million times and to see mike playing for a bunch of school kids is brilliant BRILLIANT!! every precious dream and vision underneath the stars

  • I keep coming back to this video- it is the best thing on YouTube: inspiring, simple, uplifting, just beautiful. Such a weird combination of Mike Scott, who was at the time an internationally populsr playing in a school assembly. Love his 'rock star;' exit though.

  • thanks Mike I always thought this cat had it goinon.....

  • whatever happened to this man?

  • @MrJohnmacek Mike Scott is still performing and recording with the Waterboys.

  • I can almost smell them sweaty socks and black pumps hahah

  • Thank you for one of the most real and wonderful clips I will ever see in my life. I can't tell you what this song meant to me all those years ago and now I see I wasn't the only one. The explosion of cheering at the beginning made me scream too :)

  • I must agree, now a days no band or group can make a simple music like this! Only in the 80's.

My respect to band Waterboys..........u r awesome.

  • @jin798467 - can I recommend Elbow

  • man i agree - just plain class !!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic. A classic tune. Great performance.

  • Isn't this what life is all about? I think we've 'lost the plot' these days...

    Walk Well.

  • From the early eighties to the mid nineties .. Mike Scot an the early rag taggle Waterboys line ups ..Spent there time writing an producing on the West coast of Ireland ,,Galway Sligo Donegal

  • A wonderful cconcert. We were so lucky. Thank you Brendan and your team. I think the year may be 1984 as I and my class mates are in the audience and we were the Leaving Cert Class of 1985.

  • Beautiful. Feel the energy in the room

  • Utterly brilliant... I agree with comments about how a real musician can make music with a simple instrument and his own voice---amateurs please learn something!

  • Scotlands greatest living musician, singing the greatest pop song of all time, live in your school. Imagine if you had been off sick that day that would not have been cool

  • For collectors .. great video thx!

  • @karvelasn hurrah! someone acknowledges Scott's Scottishness! everyone always bangs on that the waterboys are irish! piffle!

  • QUÉ CHINGÓN!!!!!!!!!

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • but a bang on the ear w2ould be a must also....

  • the lost wind... i totallly agree it was beautiful to watch ...i would have blown a gasket if the waterboys came to my school as a 15 year old,,, man...... so cool

  • Joy! What a day that must've been.

  • this brings tears to my eyes! i love the pure enthusiasm of children. this sounds so good without any production too.

  • I wonder if the teachers were more excited! Do you reckon the kids were told they had to stay sitting? I know if I was there, I would have been up dancing!

  • fanbebbidozi

  • awesome!!! from a BIG Waterboys fan!

  • thats class. how come none of this kind of thing happens nowadays ?

  • "what a day! What a song!!" thank you to whoever posted this vid. One of my fondest memories in school. I often speak of that day. Can anyone tell me did they play in Shiftden house that evening or down at the ball alley ? i think they played their tits off that night as well. Hi to all who were in attendance that day where ever you are. And a special thanks to Brendan cos as usual you were "To High.... to far... you saw the whole of the moon.................."(Spaced).

    Super Day

  • Without doubt, one of the best songs ever.

    Ever.

  • Our guy must have been an unforgettable moment vcs hoped that Mike would be present?

  • Happen in 1987or 1989 the presentation

  • This must have been in 1987 as I left school in 1988. I remember being called out of Irish class with Sr Rosario to help carry the piano downstairs. We were all called to assembly hall and this was our treat from Brendan Flynn the Deputy Headmaster. A fantastic day!

  • I remember Sr Rosario! My parents used to teach at that school. Do you know how she is doing? If i remember correctly, she really liked my dads home made fudge! Brendan Flynn, what a man.

    Much respect.

  • This is magic. Yes I am pissed but it's still magic.

  • yes

  • He loves playing with the lyrics. Here it's "dark empty valley" instead of the usual "rain dirty valley." But it is "simitars and scarves" rather than the "saddlebags and scarves" he sometimes tosses in...

  • wow... so new shit has come to light, huh?

what a moment! please tell me this is mikes old school...

  • this song is a true masterpiece

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks

    a1

  • Great Video! My school too. Those girls in the front seat must have got serious wiplash! Obviously great fans!

  • lucky kids....all we got at school in the 80's was cheap puppet shows! lol

  • Same here! Then one day a Combi van full of breakdancers rolled in and did a show in the gym!

  • F@cking brilliant, it's amazing. I am speechless. Who recorded this?

  • did u now what this songs about doe makes u really love it more like

  • I heard it was about an author that he was obsessed with... It's clearly about being in awe of somebody. Having said that, the lyrics are better than anybody else could ever do! Awesome song.

  • that put tears in my eyes, i loved that, all those children will remember that song forever. that was amazing.

  • I wish there was this version with high quality...i don't like the other version with all the other instruments

  • This is amazing !!!

  • Every Nimrod Jackass Boy Band that ever formed should be ashamed that a guy on piano and a guy with a penny whistle accomplished more than they ever could in a life time in a little classroom where the only backing tracks were the voices of some school kids who knew the lyrics. One of the best songs ever.
