  • Agree on feeling what I've seen of this perf is badly edited, although they did a nice job with Guerin. Platel's variations have a lot of shots where you see torso and face when you know feet and legs are doing something you want to see. Nothing will *ever* make me like this version of the dance with the flower basket (much prefer Makarova/Lanchberry music and steps). It just looks like it belongs in Stomp. But Guerin does it better than anyone I've seen, preserving some delicacy.

  • I think that the camera man/men did a fantastic job with this ballet. I've seen much worse. 6:13 - very powerful image.

  • This is the best Nikiya i have ever seen! Poor thing, when she "dies" it's breathtakingly amazing, but her hand smashes on the ground...

  • ui domingo vou apresentar esse espetaculo...

  • Bayadère production in 1992 was the last Noureev work (He died in januar 1993) , but the film was made in 1994.

  • Less is more - the most sophisticated interpretation of Nikiya's part. So sincere, unpretentious and very moving. No artificial ornaments, grimaces, showing off her elasticity. I like the costumes Thanks heaven she does not look like some kinde of Sheherezade comparing with russians versions.

  • I have seen many variations of this on youtube. She is my favorite. She exumes the sadness needed for this scene, and she dances it beautifully. I like Zakharova, but she always seems lacking in her emotions.

  • She is incredible but I kinda wish she was wearing the red costume.

  • She is uniquely marvellous. Full of inspiration and feelings. The best Nikiya ever seen. Bravo Guerin!

  • SIMPLEMENTE HERMOSO!!! QUE BELLA HISTORIA!

  • She slides into everything like water. So fluid.

    Insanity. In the best way.

  • CIAO, DOVE POSSO TROVARE UN MP3 DI QUESTA MUSICA?

  • Gives me chills every time...

  • French dancers are marvelous. I love their subtlety. Russians I love also, but here, I think the French method works very well.

  • @manderson610 Sorry, but this is the Russian method. This is Nureyev´s last ballet for the Paris Opera. Because he was already very sick(he died 3 months later)he asked the sublime Ninel Kurgapkina(his partner of the Leningrad years) to come from Russia and finish training the dancers.

  • by far the best nikiya.

Humble and subtle, with a veil of saddness

  • Interprétation saisissante, Isabelle Guérin est juste magnifique.

  • the best interpretation at all that i ve seen! she totally tells the feeling

  • @megademencia

did you check Diana Vishneva performance of this?...

  • I love Isabelle Guerin, everything about her is beautiful. the only thing is, I don't feel her Nikiya. She barely shows any emotion at all. This part is supposed to be heart- wrenching to Nikiya because she's been betrayed...I don't see that.

  • ISABELLE GUERIN EST TOTALEMENT BOULEVERSANTE

  • it was great till the dance with a snake. No tragedy at all. Sorry.

  • @nevermind111

When she receives the basket of flowers with the snake hidden there, she imagines that it comes from solor. Then, she becomes happy ; that's why there's no tragedy at this moment. (Sorry, my english is bad ; I hope I'm clear).

  • Amazing and beautiful. I could feel the story.

  • i love this variation especially the way she falls it looks more realistic

  • Mesmerizing amazing stunning...I have never watched ballet with such attention!

  • she is trying to get his love right? not bore him to death. I agree though the ending was good.

  • THE END WAS SO NICE!

  • what is this song called? i couldnt find this version on itunes....

  • ...and now after I've seen a lot of videos about bayadere and I realise I love ballet I still thinking the same.. She 's the best!!

  • I don`t know ballet so much.. so when I saw her inthis performance for the first time I cryed whitout realise the reason.

  • her technique is great and everything, except she's emotionless, and that takes all the good out of it....it's too bad, because she's really good

  • Her rhythm at the end is weird....?

  • now way!

  • Comment removed

  • but Zalharova has nothing on Isabelle!!

  • Watch Zakharova's timing... cal's video 38 sec... It's just different that's all.

  • @icarrus4u original coreograph is not in this way.. we should ask to coreographer.. i like the way she fall more than original

  • goosebumps.

  • The video quality is not all that good, so I can't really see the expression on her face, but it doesn't matter anyway, cause her moves and her body show all the emotions!

This is so beautiful, and so is the music!!! The music of this entire ballet is magnific, one of my favorites!

  • Awesome! She acted sooo well.

  • i thought the ending was superb

  • 1:06 - 2:00 speechless

  • Just incredible and inhuman to be so wonderfull, emotive and perfect in such a ballet..

  • she is very very very thin....its not beautiful!!!But she was perfect...

  • I know she's too thin, but ballet dancers need to be thin in order for the men to pick them up. Plus, it's hard to be a professional dancer and NOT be too thin, with the amount of excersize they get. Plus, the video is squished so she looks thinner than she actually is...

  • do you know what classic means?

and maybe for you is boring, i think is wonderful, and very emotive.

  • c'est magnifique! Beautiful and fluid, but also really showing the emotion perfectly.

  • the only bad thing about this variation is the CAMERA MAN

  • Every single movement of hers tells a story...no unnecessary displays of flexibility (although heaven knows she has it...and uses it beautifully)

This is by far one of the best interpretations I've ever seen. Breathtaking.

  • What song is thiiis????

  • What's the name of this part , anyone know?

  • murder of Nikiya. Once of the best interpretations I have ever seen, great dancer Isabelle, she is perfect. from Paris Opera.

  • I want to download the music, but I can't find it.. I tried with "nikya die" or murder of nikya" but didn't work... any sugestion??

  • The real musical name of this part is : n°27 Allegro by Leon Minkus - it's the last part of the first CD in the complete recording of Minkus La Bayadère and the last variation in the first Act by the same way-. You can find this music on this CD or maybe it's possible to download it. I quite don't know ;).

  • something along the lines of death of nikiya or snake variation

  • Pierina is the best at this.

  • C'est véritablement splendide.

  • sublime

  • wau

  • Magnifique..

  • As a professional musician of the ballet, I can tell you it's a cello. A viola is NEVER given such a solo.

  • french ballerinas have the prettiest feet

  • This is by far the best version of la bayadere, this is simply perfect.

There might be different interpretation but everything is so nicely done is this one. Nikiya (Isabelle) is not abusing her strength nor her flexibility, every line is perfectly and carefully placed - and they speak of sorrow. Also the music is so nicely put so that it fits the atmosphere perfectly.

I like this one the best

  • fantastica!!!

  • fantastica!!!

  • the first part makes me cry.. she is so beautiful and de music is amazing.. simply beautiful

  • hermoso (L

  • Perfect!!

  • beatiful

  • wow. the ending is soooo moving, so dramatic, it makes me wanna cry={

    but beautiful nonetheless

  • OMG..this is really something beautiful, her body is incredible

  • amazing. beautiful. made me cry.

  • beautiful. she moves as if through weightless. so light

  • lol i think she is weightless! but i know what you mean

  • makes me cry ! thank you !!!

  • where can I find this song and how it's called? specially the part with the flowers

    thanks

  • This is my favorite choreography for La Bayadere. Ms. Guerin performs it beautifully.

  • she dance very beautiful..but she don't got enough energy at the part whit the flowers..:) :) :)

  • yeah that's what i was thinking as well. i read the synopsis to understand the story better and it said that with the flowers it's supposed to be a happy jig because she thinks they're from solar and zakharova's version is more energetic. still a fab performance don't get me wrong but i think it'd be easier to follow the story if she'd upped the tempo with the flowers.

  • not necessarily. French dancers are more restrained than Russian ones. And for a plus, her footwork is far more precise than Zakharova, Vishenva, Asylmuratova..

  • well in that case i guess i should say that i prefer the russian's interpretation of this variation

  • Just to add a bit... I think of it more as:

Solor gave her the flowers, but he's still getting married. She's just a bit happier.

  • that's true.. this is true class and pure style . I really think she's so amazing without being conceited ... unlike others..

  • i comletly agree with you

  • the choreography was exceptionally good, the accent was perfect.

    AWESOME!!!!

  • It's Nureyev's version; he just added or changes a few parts.

  • She was made for this role. Perfect.

  • WONDERFUL!! *.*

  • Breathtaking. Touching.

The best Nikiya in the world

  • I love this music. All the versions I found online sound nothing like this. I guess that's the difference in live and recorded! :-/

  • And also because in Paris Opera they have very good violinists....

  • I live in the US and I hate I will probably never get to hear this live. It is one of my favorite pieces EVER!

  • It is not Paris Opera orchestra, but Colonne Orchestra who play sometimes for ballet performances. But the violin is good. :-)

  • And it's a cello solo, I think.

  • it's not a cello.. i think is a viola (i don't know how to tell it in enlish)

  • In English, it is also called a viola.

I can't really tell the difference, but I used to play cello. It sounds a bit similar, I suppose. Perhaps you're right.

  • yes, it's true, they are very similar. it's called viola then, thank you.

  • as a musician of orchestra I have to tell you that the solo you listned its a CELLO! not viola as you thought!

  • I said it before, and I will say it again...this music and Ms. Guerin's dancing are absolutely beautiful. San Francisco Ballet has NEVER done La Bayadere, I would love to see it in a near future. For now, I am content to watch this on DVD.

  • I love La Bayadère. it was the first ballet that touched my soul, and this Nikiya's dancing before dying, by Guerin, is unforgettable.

  • La Bayadere is my altime favorite ballet and she plays nikiya very well, her musicality is not always precice, but otherwise very well done

  • she looks like a piece of paper

  • I know. Light as a feather.
