The question is not whether people understand the language. Most people in Europe only speak 2-3 of the European Languages, that means that one maybe understand 3 % of all the songs, but its not a matter of understanding the text, its about representing your country, that way the original idea. And those songs in unknown languages have won many times. Personally I loved the Portuguese song but I don't understand it at all.

If you have the opportunity to watch and listen to him sing "Belive again" in an acoustic version, you should do that, cause then you can really hear, that he does have a great voice :-) (also se the acoustic version of "Hope and Glory", the real swedish winner of this year ;)
