Acts that pass the audition don't automatically go into the semis. If they did, the semis would have had 200 acts in 25 shows which would have been on every weekday for five weeks!

They reduce the 200 or so down to 40 in a selection process. You can see it here: v=h7g9KPqslbw

Clever trick with the 'ear' pull, but actually that's not what happened. It's a trick of the eye. Look carefully at his upper right arm. He rests the arm under the vice on his ear for the leverage/pulling. His ear doesn't actually do any of the work. Physically speaking, the ear would just rip off.
