May 27 2009 i saw lights like the ones you're describing off the coast of ocean city, md. Theres also vid on here of real vid of it happening in myrtle beach. They look like flates but they dont behave like flares. I still havent figured it out
@allmakescombined - I still think about those lights every day and study the ufo reports. Hoping to figure it out someday. I'm going down to the Outer banks this Saturday for a week on a fishing trip. I hope to see them again. I'm wanting to get a camera with night vision to set up to record the sky all night while I'm there. I don't know if I will have it this trip yet. Maybe I'll be posting some real pictures of them one day. Thanks for responding. Let me know if you learn anything.
@DJHausted ----- There has been a lot of sightings of the lights or similar lights since I made this animated drawing of what I saw back in 2004. The latest I've seen is at Wrightsville Beach, NC in June of 2010.
I saw a similar thing but it was more like a tic-tac-toe grid, where a red laser connected to each red dot. My sister and I saw this in Anaheim, CA in December 2006 and reported to MUFON, but it took them forever to contact me. I kept the details I reported to MUFON.
The night I saw them was on a full moon and there was an eclipse later that night. If it were a hoax of some type, that would be a good night to have did it. There would be a lot of people out looking up. Also the night that I saw the lights was during the same time that the big UFO sighting happened at Tinley Park, Il. I don't know if that was related. The lights I saw did now move other than dividing apart. Then blinked out in about 4 seconds.
I reported mine to Peter Davenport of the national UFO reporting center. He claims that he has a lot of reports of the lights but has know idea what they are. I'll try to put some links to a few reports that you may be interested in reading.
My report to Peter Davenport: Go to his website The National UFO Reporting Center look at at date: 10/28/2004 at Avon,NC also look at: 4/15/2010 at Buxton, NC 3/26/2008 at Hatteras Village, NC 9/26/2007 at Kure Beach, NC and a YouTube video called: UFO's Over Myrtle Beach May 27, 2009 This is kind of close to what I saw. If you learn anymore about them, please come back and let me know. Thanks
I saw these light patterns in Wrightsville Beach on 06/22/2010! It looked very similar to the phenomena recreated here. Check out my MUFON report or google "Wrightsville Beach UFO" and you will ssee several articles referencing our MUFON report. There was another report from another group of witnesses, as well.
If they were afterburners, I can't figure out how they appeared the way they did. A solid orb of red light. No glare, didn't appear like any type of flame. Then separate as they did and only lit for 4 seconds.
The lights didn't appear to be flares. They had no glare to them at all. No smoke. Just a round ball of solid red light. Maybe a third the size of a full moon. In fact they appeared a lot like looking at the moon. Just a ball in the sky, except solid red. When they divided out, they were exactly the same size and color. Coming out of the one beside it just as my little animation shows. Then just blinked off. People still see them now. They are usually seen between 7:30 and 11:00pm.
