I remember watching this back in the day... man Don Owen was a terrible ring announcer. I just remember him stumbling over words and occasionally get the wrestlers mixed up... and I swear he was a little old man the entire time he ran the territory.
Billy Jack was a good bleeder. I didn't see Portland Wrestling back in the days. I was subjected to the NWA, which I truly supported, AWA, WWF, WCCW, etc. Portland Wrestling looks interesting. It was definately in the days when wrestling had its territories. Those days are gone, but will never be forgotten. Long live the "Glory Days" of pro wrestling!!
Don Koss calling Rip "an insult to Santa Claus" slays me every time I see it. Not too many announcers could get away with a line like that, but damn if he doesn't make it work.
did you watch the seattle version of portland known as big time wrestling? I heard it was only an hour show versus the hour and a half on the portland show.
I still remember when this happened I still miss portland wrestling it is still better than wwe could be, Rip Oliver and Buddy Roses made the wrestling with Billy jack I was thrown out of the sports arena many of times I would rather have portland wreslting than anything
Zenk actually did wrestle in the Pacific Northwest for a brief period (10-85 through 3/86 according to the Tom Zenk pages) which would include this period (12/85).
hey musicguy, didn't rip oliver do something similar to bjh in texas? i know there was an article in"inside wrestling"on the incident. oliver was being managed by or at least in cuhoots with jim cornette and the midnight express. and busted billy up pretty bad there too. anyway, billy jack is one of my all-time favs so if you have anymore stuff with him please post it.
That referee is Sandy Barr who passed away after sufering a major heart attack a few months ago. Sandy Barr was at one time the the NWA Champion, if Im not mistaking. I grew up on Portland Wrestling. Sandy Barr also had a flea market which he and his sons would wrestle at quit often.
I will look it up but Im sure that Sandy Barr was never an NWA champion. He was mostly a mid carder from what I've read. People liked him though and he was able to make a good living in the Portland territory.
Sandy was dandy but was never more then a mid card jobber with the nwa and not even close to holding any sort of major title. Thats okay thou he is a first ballot hall of famer in my book.
Seen a match a while back with Oliver actually being the good guy and Haynes the Heel. When the UWF went out in 1988 Portland and WCCW wrestling was televised until their runs ended in the 1990s....
Fake

im confused cause i know that wrestling is fake, but is this part of a story line or was this an actual attack? (non-scripted)

Hey.... isnt that Tom Zenk in the ring tending to Haynes? He was in the Can Am Connection with Rick Martel, then jumped to NWA before it became WCW.
